Bike (mountain bike)p.9
Sock (he toed off his socks)p.106
Rain (a night of heavy rain)p.57
Elbow (treated a sprained elbow)p.85
ReviewJill Shalvis is quickly becoming one of my favorite contemporary authors. She writes fun, sexy stories and they are not filled with created angst and whiny characters. This one is no exception. It is the second in a series about 3 (that means I get to read one more!)brothers who run an outdoor adventure company in the Sierra Mountains. They live in a quirky small town and they are sexy and gorgeous and everything you want 3 brothers who run an outdoor adventure company to be. Stone is the middle brother and the one who holds everyone together. He falls for the daughter of the town doctor who has come to town in order to help her father out with his practice. She is physician in New York and is definitely not interested in staying in a small town, until she meets Stone. Fun,light, sexy read. Just the thing to start the New Year off!

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Leslie I just discovered Jill Shalvis too, and loving her. I finished the first one yesterday, trying to wait until tomorrow and hoping Instant Gratification fits the item.

I know! I really liked this one. Stone is so sexy and sweet. You will love it! And I have several books I want to start but I'm waiting for tomorrow. It's driving me crazy.

At Last (Lucky Harbor, #5) by Jill Shalvis
Finished 1/3
4★

This is the fifth installment in the Lucky Harbor series. I always enjoy catching up with the folks in this small town. This trilogy of books within the series (books 4-6) is centered around the Chocoholics, a group of three friends who get together and catch up over some form of chocolate regularly. I would love to do that on a regular basis! This book is Amy's story. She is a strong and sassy heroine seeking to find herself through her grandmother's journals about her time in Lucky Harbor years ago. While retracing one of her grandmother's hikes, Amy is rescued by the sexy forest ranger, Matt, and sparks start to fly. They are each trying to overcome troubled pasts and learn to trust each other. Their relationship was very sweet to watch as it developed. On a side note, I love the author's witty dialogue and humor, it helps to balance out the emotional journey. One of my favorite recurring characters is Lucille, the town gossip. She is always a real hoot!

Rain: "watching the rain come down" ~ KL 1798
Elbow: "Josh came up on an elbow" ~ KL 1770
Bike: "I stole my boyfriend's brand-new bike to get to work" ~ KL 2961
Hood: "She tugged the hood up over her hair" ~ KL 345

I know you like mystery, Sheila. I was wondering if you had any of these. I have read 2 in this series. I like them as well.

@Amanda - I've read one of her Lucky Harbor books, and one from another series as well. She is sexy and fun and not too much angst. I really hate angst!

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 675 comments Okay team, here's the situation with my bike book. I read the book of what I was going to read and when I went to try to claim items, I didn't realize that bike what found in the little preview of the next book in the series. So, I decided I'm going to switch my bike book. I'm really sorry for overlooking this mistake...

message 218: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments No problem Amy. How were you to know that when you searched the book and found bike that it was in a preview of another book. Not your fault. We are doing great. That is a lesson learned for all of us. I do the same thing when searching a book on Amazon.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 675 comments So, for my new bike book, I'm going to read The Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman

I'll see what eyes book to read once I finish this book in a couple a days or so to avoid any confusion.

Right now the Fearsome Foursome is the only one with a perfect score. But BadAss 8, could change that this week if they call thier points right.

We have passed the halfway point in the game and it could still be anyones game.

Way to go team!

message 223: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Leslie, it looks like you are the only one that hasn't claimed emergency vehicle yet if I haven't missed it and maybe cake would be a good one. Everyone take a look at the spreadsheet to see what needs filling in.

Here is the link to the Spreadsheet

Amanda what are you going to be reading for EYES week?

message 224: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Sorry, Sheila - I honestly can not make heads or tails of the spreadsheet.
I will look for emergency vehicle. I've been having a hard time with that one for some reason. I may have to change my book.

message 225: by Sheila (last edited Jan 05, 2013 01:10PM) (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Leslie, think ambulance, patrol or squad or police car or cruiser, firetruck.

An Amazon search of Blood Ties shows a mention of Police vehicles on page 356. It also mentions cakes on page 188. You should be good to go.

Off to watch NFL and listen to The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen on my iPod

message 226: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) okay, how about this:
"... jeep parked nearby, the logo on it's side the seal of the Grace Police Department." Would that count?

thanks, Sheila for giving me ideas of words to search for. I was trying ambulance and firetruck.

I found cakes as well. Yippee!! Happy reading dance. And I'll be watching Packers-Vikings this evening. Go Pack!!!

message 227: by Sheila (new)

Amanda A | 723 comments Week 6 - Eyes
Notorious Nineteen (Stephanie Plum, #19) by Janet Evanovich
Finished 1/5
3★

I have enjoyed the Stephanie Plum series, but it seems like each book has gotten repetitive and formulaic as the series goes on. Stephanie's car blows up, she has failures as a bounty hunter, she and Lula binge on junk food and Stephanie waffles back and forth between Morelli and Ranger. Grandma Mazur and Lula are still pretty funny though. I just wish Evanovich would wrap it up and have Stephanie choose between Morelli and Ranger. I will probably keep reading because I have put in this much time and want to know how it all ends. I just don't look forward to a new book in this series as much as I used to and hope the end is near.

Wind: "the ancient maple in my backyard rattled in the wind." ~ Page 308
Eyes: "Briggs cut his eyes to Lula." ~ Page 21
Cake: "He ate the chocolate cake first." ~ Page 34
Glasses: "white hair and thick glasses." ~ Page 166

message 229: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Great Amanda, I think cake and glasses are kind of hard to find. I should finish my book today as well. It is a really creepy one.

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Week 6: Item called: Eyes 1/4

Evil at Heart (Gretchen Lowell #3) by Chelsea Cain Evil at Heart by Chelsea Cain

Finished 1/7 Rated ★★★★★'s.

This is number 3 in the Archie Sheridan/Gretchen Lowell series and by far the most graphically sick book yet.

(view spoiler)

Rain - They needed the rain. The whole city had shriveled up. page 33

Eyes - Dakota's eyes widened. "I'm not going in there" she said. page 1

Shelf - Archie closed the Newsweek, got to his feet, and slid it back on it's shelf behind him. page 73

Sock - the patients wore socks so they couldn't hang themselves with their shoelaces. page 9

message 234: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Is "graphically sick" supposed to be a recommendation, Sheila? LOL!!

message 235: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Was graphically the wrong word. I meant it spelled things out in detail. I love that series.

message 236: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) From what I've heard of that series, graphically seems exactly the right word. Just teasing!

message 237: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Blood Sins (Bishop/Special Crimes Unit, #11) by Kay Hooper
Week 6: 1/7/13 ***1/2 stars
Eyes:(her wide eyes gazed)p.11
Emergency Vehicle:(jeep with logo of police dept.)p.66
Lightning (he channeled lightning)p.245
Glasses (pulled off his reading glasses)p.306

Review
Continuing the story of the hunt for Samuel, who is a psychic serial killer, The Haven tracks him to his church compound in North Carolina. This is a pretty scary, creepy story. Kay Hooper takes us into Samuel's childhood and the start of his career and psychic powers. There is only the slightest hint of a romance and I would have liked more. But other than that, really good suspenseful read. But it is definitely not a stand alone. You need to have read previous ones to understand what was going on.

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments How is everyone doing this week? I always think that the first week of January is kind of a downer. I've been working on my New Years Resolution - to defat! So far I'm on track. I'm basically a slug, so I have been trying to do some kind of dedicated exercise.

I'd rather be reading :)

I'm almost done with my bike book and then I can move on to my eyes book.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 675 comments The Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman

Finished: January 8th
Rating: 2.5 stars

Review:
This book was an okay read. There were some interesting parts in it that kept my interest in wanting to continue the book while the rest was just boring in my opinion.

Items:

Rainbow: Max rose to open the window-one if the few that actually opened, as the majority were sealed stained glass, good for a flickering rainbow on a sunny day. (Page 43)

Hood: She pulled on her hood, casting her face in shadow. (Page 352)

Toe: She twirled on her pointed toes, hugged me, and laughed. (Page 205)

Bike: It was late, and he offered to toss my bike into the car and give me a ride home, but I told him I like pedaling in the dark. (Page 26)

message 241: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) So far so good. One of my daughters just returned to college today. Still struggling with BP issues so no exercise for me. I feel like such a slug. Good luck with your defat program, Sheila. It's going to be a crazy spring in my family - 2 graduations then a wedding.

Do you have a way to listen to books? Back when I worked and had easy access to the gym I used to listen while I was on the tread mill. It was great because I was always thinking just a bit more of the book, not caring about the time I spent walking.

Sheila (sheilaj) | 1 comments Dawn, I borrow the audiobooks from the library then rip the cds to my computer into itunes and load them on my ipod. The director of the library who happens to be a friend said there wasn't a legal issue about copying since I wasn't copying the cds. I was just using my ipod as a player.
