Hi Guys! I'm no rookie to this game, it's my third time playing this. As for team names, how about along the lines of Four of a Kind?
Hi Amy, nice to meet you. I played last round for my first team sport event (but definitely not the last).I was thinking Fearsome Foursome
I was on the backup list last round due to some things that I was going through at the time outside the internet, but everything has been taken care of and I'm back on the right track!I'm happy that I'm able to play this round!
Hi, everyone! This is my 2nd round of this game but I've done other team challenges as well. I am easy about the names, but I'm leaning towards Fearsome Foursome. Anyone for Captain?
Hi ladies! This is my first round of this game and I'm really looking forward to it. I like Fearsome Foursome for a name too.
Maybe we can introduce ourselves, where we live, a little about our life, reading habits, and anything else we can think of.I live in Shreveport, LA though I am from New Orleans and only moved because of Hurricane Katrina. I have 4 kids, ages 23 down to 18, 3 girls and 1 boy. My two oldest just recently got engaged, so that's fun. You can find me on pinterest pinning lots of wedding ideas! I am home because of a health issue and have lots of time for reading at the moment. It will get crazy around Christmas as the family will be in NO and I am throwing an engagement party. Just a heads up.
I will easily get my book done every week. My only problem will come in because I am in so many challenges that I have certain books I am reading in each month. But I read on a nook and a kindle so I can do searches for the words.
Also, if no one else wants to be captain, I could probably figure out how to do it. I've never done it before, however. I'm the last resort, in other words LOL!!
Good idea, Leslie! I live in Spartanburg, SC, work full time in accounting and am single with no kids. I have several nieces and nephews that I love to spoil rotten and then send them home to their parents. :)I also read on a Kindle and a Nook. I recently upgraded my 2nd generation Kindle to the new 8.9" Kindle Fire HD and I am loving it! Since I am a rookie, I won't volunteer to be captain. Can't wait to get started!
Good morning everyone. I live in Moline, Illinois which is right on the Mississippi River. If you picture the state of Illinois we are where the river runs east to west with Iowa actually being north of us. I am recently retired from 37 years as a respiratory therepist. I am married with 2 grown/married children and 2 grandsons ages 3 and 9 who thankfully also live in the area. I have two passions - quilting and reading. I am in several challenges with the big one being the Seasonal Reading Challenge which starts on Saturday. I did the scavenger hunt last round and had a lot of fun with it. I would be glad to volunteer to be the captain unless someone else REALLY wants to do it. I'm online all the time and it wouldn't be a problem. (Have I mentioned that I LOVE being retired?)
I'm also kind of a geek. Amanda isn't the fire hd great? I have the 7 inch one but still prefer to read a regular book.
I learned a neat tip last round. You can actually search any book whether it be ebook or not. If you go to Amazon and find a book you like and click on the regular book version you can actually search it without buying it. I am a mega-library user so that ability to search really helps.
I discovered that tip on one of the team challenges, as well, Sheila! I had to read a book that was actually paper and was struggling to find the word. And Amanda, I recently upgraded my nook color to a nook tablet. I love mine as well. I've had one for almost 2 years. I hardly ever read any other way. I use an SD card loaded with the Android operating system and can convert it to an Android tablet, and that gives me access to the Kindle app. And Sheila, I vote for you as Captain! I'm so excited to get started.
I'm no good at introductions.I live somewhere in Illinois so I'm in the central timezone. I own a Kindle Touch, but I prefer to read the physical copy of the book. I read about 2-4 books a week. I'm one of those Goodreads members who has a neverending to-be-read shelf on Goodreads that keeps growing everyday.
Also, I vote for Sheila for team captain!
Thanks guys, I will try really hard to be an organized team captain. Now what about the name? It looks like most everyone liked Fearsome Foursome. Does everyone agree with that? If so I will let Dawn officially know.As captain I will send you each a friend request for easy access in case we have a problem with anything during the challenge.
Go team Fearsome Foursome!! This is going to be great.
Yea Team!! So excited to start this and play this with y'all. Interesting that we are all in the Central Time Zone. That makes things easy. I have a ton of books I have to get done for the end of the year but I do have some room to add books if I need to. But I had terrible luck last round picking words, so hopefully I will do a better job this round.
LOL, oh Sheila. I was just sitting here wondering if I should do a post in the morning to give the exact time. Last round I did it the week before, but since I was on vacation it didn't work out. Any way I was decided no no I don't need to start a count down as early as tomorrow morning, I can wait and just do 24 notice. I guess I was wrong.
Ok team we are down to 24 hours to let the games begin. It looks like everyone but Amanda has played before so you know how it works. Amanda, towmorrow morning Dawn will post thw weeks item to find. Then we all read any book this week that has that item either written or shown on the cover, in the title or in the text of the book. Then you should make note of the location and the sentence you find the word in. If you are using a kindle just loc 1234 or whatever. page # or if listening to an audiobook cd 4 track 2. Then you also get to claim 3 other items as long as they are each in a different group from the called item. and make note of their location and context as well.
What I would like to know from the team is are we interested in any kind of strategy to fill in non called items or do we just want to start by filling in some blanks on the spreadsheet?
After everyone checks in and posts what they are planning on reading I will post a "master" list of what everyone is reading and then after you finish your books and post your reviews and words and star rating I can get the list in the format that Dawn wants to request points.
This is my first time as a captain so if there is something else you would like me to do or something that I am doing that is driving you nuts please tell me.
Thanks for the overview, Sheila! I'm fine with either way...if we go with a strategy for the non called items or just fill them in as we go. Can't wait to get started!
I would love to know a strategy because last round I did horribly. I ended up with 2 in the same group for the last word. Ugh. Very frustrating. So excited to start!! Sheila, I know you are going to do a great job as Captain!! Thanks for stepping up.
Only two Leslie, I ended up with three in the places category. I think over half the things called last time were places and always places I had already claimed. So frustrating.
Really the only strategy that I can see is if we all tried to fill in the top item in each category and work our way down. That is at least what I am going to try and do. Something like that? It isn't always possible of course and maybe we shouldn't worry about it for a few weeks. Either that or we could all (or me) keep an eye on the spreadsheet and when only 1 person is lacking a certain thing that the rest of us had claimed I could encourage that person to try to find that item in the next book.
Of course filling in non-claimed items can backfire as well if that item happens to get called and we all had already claimed it.
I just want to get started. This waiting is SO hard. You would think that at my age of 61 I would have learned patience by now- NAH! Let's light this candle!

Do you have to own the book before you can search for the word?
Amy ~Lover of Books~ wrote: "Do you have to own the book before you can search for the word?..."I have noticed that it won't let you search some books if your not logged in to amazon. Some books it will only do a partial search if you are not logged in. And I did have a few new releases and it wouldn't search them. I don't know what the rhyme or reasons are but just be aware there are a few that you can't search even the paperback version.

Oh okay.
I've noticed the same thing. Some books won't let you search at all or only do a partial search. Very frustrating! I always log on, so I haven't noticed that issue before.
Item is called!!! Dawn was so early, she knew we were crazy waiting. Any way it's CLOTHING-TIE. I will begin looking and see what I find.
I am so excited to finally get started. I've done quite a bit of searching ahead of time so I'll be back with my book choice. I'll try to find some of the more obscure items from the other categories. What have you all found difficult to find?
I still don't get how to search for the word on the kindle. I want to know if a few of the books I have on hand have the clothing tie in them. I'm a newbie when it comes to using a kindle...

When I am in the book, if you tap the screen once it pulls up a header and footer with options like settings at the top, and the home button on the bottom. Also on the bottom is a magnifying glass. If I tap the magnifying glass then it opens a search box.
Okay Fearsome Foursome The item called for week 1 is Clothing - TieFor my book I've picked a book which I need to read for another challenge I'm doing.
Double Shot by Diane Mott DavidsonI'll be focusing on finding rainbow, curly hair and musical instrument which were the items I found were the toughies when I searched books.

I just asked him and he said you need to own the book on the Kindle in order to search for the word.
Amy if you are using a regular kindle and not the kindle fire you would open a book and then hit the menu button and scroll to "search this book". Then use the keyboard to type your word and click find and it will list everywhere that word is found in that particular book. I hope that helps.
No Amy you have to own the book first and have it on your kindle to search it. If it also in print edition you CAN search that without buying it.What book are you wanting to search?
Sheila wrote: "No Amy you have to own the book first and have it on your kindle to search it. If it also in print edition you CAN search that without buying it.What book are you wanting to search?"
I don't want you buying these just to search for the word:
If these don't have what I'm looking for, then I might just resort to reading a kindle book I already own if worse comes to worse.
Amy if you sign in to Amazon and go to the books page and click on look inside a search box comes up on the left or it says search inside the book below the picture of the book once you click on look insideyou should be able to do that. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_nos...+
It won't let you search the kindle edition but hardback and paperback work. What are you searching for specifically. I'll be glad to help.
I just did a search for curly hair on the sapphire book and got a hit.He pushed a curly strand of brown hair back from his forehead. page 92
They just sat around in suits and ties talking page 146
I did not find ties in Born wicked though. It mentions ties but it is the verb form and not the clothing item so I don't think that would work.

Thanks Sheila, that really helps for future reads! I'll see if any more of my books I currently have on hand also has a tie in it before I finally decide on what to read.
For Clothing - Tie, I will be reading
by Kaya McLaren. Several of the items in the other categories are also in it, so I still need to decide which ones to claim.
Week 1 - Clothing/Tie called 11/30Fearsome Foursome
Leslie - Only Yours by Susan Mallery
Amy ~Lover of Books~ - Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier
Sheila - Double Shot by Diane Mott Davidson
Amanda A - How I Came to Sparkle Again by Kaya McLaren

Sheila wrote: "Amy if you sign in to Amazon and go to the books page and click on look inside a search box comes up on the left or it says search inside the book below the picture of the book once you click on lo..."Just a hint - go to paperback version of the books to do this, not kindle books. took me awhile to figure that one out.
Sorry, just got back from the doctor. Will start looking for my book now.
