Victor It's 3:44 AM and I'm about to go to sleep after reading 70 pages of A Clash of Kings.

message 1753: by [deleted user] (new)

6:13am, been up for an hour. Got some really good books from the library yesterday, I've started 3. Year Zero is one--it's science fiction, which I don't read a lot of, but this will work for 3 challenges I'm doing, and it's GREAT--really funny and interesting.

Victor, I loved A Clash of Kings--I've read the whole series through A Dance with Dragons, I can't wait for the next one.

Have a great day everyone!

I am hoping one day I can get back into reading. Have been pretty tired lately. I will try to pick up KIN tonight. Miss you all.

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Terri, I'm so glad you're enjoying Year Zero! I laughed my butt off while I was reading it.

Janie, the Dark Tower series is awesome! Glad you're enjoying it!

Kathryn, trying to work and do anything else is the pits. Hang in there!

Dan, your group sounds fun! But I just don't have time to keep up with another group. I keep up with this one more than any, but even then it's mostly just this thread. I'll consider it if my time ever opens up a bit, but I hope that doesn't happen because that would mean my editing has run dry and that would really bite... :-) (pardon the pun)

4:14 p.m. EST My husband has gone out on a round of the gun stores for a shopping fun day. It was his birthday yesterday, so I suppose he'll buy himself a birthday present. I'm reading my Dresden Files. Tomorrow I'll start my editing for the week. I have a novella and three flash-fiction pieces that will be turned into a novella, if I'm understanding correctly, for children. So it should be a good week for me, and then back to the Dresden Files. I will be joining in on the Kin discussion late, I think; probably in a couple weeks, depending on how fast I get through all these Dresden Files books. I started on, what, Friday? Or was it Thursday? Anyway, I'm popping out about a book a day, but will not be doing a lot of reading while I'm editing, so that will slow me down a bit. Once I clear out my e-mail, I'll be back to reading!

4:20PM Took grandbaby to the playground. We all played some Sega all star racing, it is pretty fun. Now checking in to GR and check everything out. Soone gonna be going out to get some Sonic Blasts! YUM. Will read when we return home.

(Awww Alondra that's ok, maybe another time.)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments 8:49 PM and I just had the best day. Took the wife and kiddo to the dollar show and saw Wreck-it-Ralph. Then we went out to dinner. Just got little one to bed late and now I'm watching the Blues game. Today was just what I needed.

I fell like I should explain my Odd mood and lack of presence here on GR. Last Monday my Grandmother passed away and it has been very very hard for me to deal with. The funeral was this past Friday and I was back at work yesterday. Thankfully I was off again today and spending some time out on a family date night was just what I needed to get back on track to normal.

I am dealing each day and getting back to being myself. You all have been a big help keeping my mind moving forward with all of our book discussions. So thank you for understanding, and giving me a disttraction.

Dan (dan2345) | 304 comments 10:18PM. Saw Lincoln today...that was pretty good! Then I went out for dinner. When I got home I watched The Walking Dead. I couldn't fully enjoy it though because I'm trying to cut off a "friend"...it's a bad relationship and it needs to end....and that person just wouldn't leave me alone. Eventhough I told them not to bother me while I was watching The Walkind Dead...they just kept calling me and texting me. Really annoying. Sorry...had to vent.

Chris, my deepest sympathy for the loss of your grandmother. I was very close to my paternal grandparents and actually was their caregiver for their final months. I was closer to them than to my parents, and though they both lived to their mid-nineties, I still miss them tremendously. I keep a picture of them on my refrigerator and look at it every day.

It's 2:51am, I slept for about 4 hours and am now up for the day. Catching up on GR, yesterday was a reading marathon so I wasn't on much. Finished Year Zero (it was SO funny) and another book. Planning a day in the kitchen--making chicken BBQ and some more homemade bread. Make it a great day everyone!

10:49AM Doing my laundry tending to my grandbaby. Eating some lunch now and plan on digging in deep into my book today (fingers crossed). It is very good.

Terri I was not as close to my grandparents, but I guess that is because I lost all of them before I even finished school. I lost my last 2 (both grandmothers) when I was a sophmore in highscool. My paternal grandfather on my Mom's side I never knew. Its sad when I think about it because my kids do not have their grandparents now either. My 2 oldest kids have one left on their dad's side. He is suffering from dimensia and alzheimer's so he does not know them. And he lives in Ohio. Kay, my youngest does not have any of hers and never even got to know them. I know they miss it and it makes me sad.

message 1775: by Katy (new)

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Chris, I'm so sorry for your loss. Glad things are starting to look up; it takes time, though.

Dan, I hate people who just won't. Stop. Calling!! I had this girlfriend who would call over and over and over throughout the day, even at work, with absolutely NOTHING to say to me, just get me on the phone, you know? AUgh. I would say "stop calling at work!!" but she'd just call again a couple hours. I would tell the people at work to not put her through, to just take a message, but then she'd figure out a way to talk to me anyway... *sigh* You just have to tell these people to go away and then enforce it. Sorry you had that annoyance.

11:56 a.m. EST Spent most of yesterday off-line and then slept, and now I am paying the price with insane amounts of e-mail to clear out before I can start editing. Still and all, it could be worse!

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Thanks Katy and Terri for your kind words. My Grandmother has been in and out of the hospital/nursing home since early August so we had time to prepare for it I guess. It has still been tough though, I don't think you can fully prepare for that. I am doing better each day and yesterday was a big help. I am so lucky to have a wonderful wife and Son who I know are there for me. As well as some really great friends here who helped as well. You know who you are and thank you.

Jordan wrote: "Chris, I need braces but I have too many teeth in my mouth so they have to take the 4 back molars out so my wisdom teeth can come in (they've been trying since i was in year 7!) and they can put my..."

Ouch, well good luck with all of that. The good news is you know no one can say you have a big mouth if they have to remove teeth for space. :-) I hope you get some relief soon, braces suck.

1:24 PM and I am working tonight. So far it hasn't been to dull of a day. We shall see how the night goes. Looking forward to spending the day here on GR.

I have to say, this group is the best - Bookworm Buddies. No one discusses the book. All I see is I like the book because its good. Or I dont like the book because everyone is mean. I mean come on. It drives me nuts. There is no substance. No actual discussion. It drives me insane. So, bookworm buddies, you are all the best.

I also agree about Bookworm Buddies! I will be doing 3 buddy reads in the next couple weeks and am really looking forward to it.

It's 3:19am and I'm waiting for the coffee to brew. Just took another pain pill and waiting for it to kick in. Puppy making himself comfortable on the bed I just got up from (which is no problem--he's allowed). Reading a good horror book (recommended by GR friends). It's a genre I don't read a lot of but I find this book (The Ritual) interesting and compelling. So it's good that I'm expanding my horizons! Looking forward to lots of good reading time today.

Janie, my grandmother had Alzheimer's disease and I worked in a dementia-specific nursing home for 6 years. It's a devestating, evil disease.

And speaking of evil diseases, I think seeing the AIDS quilt would be really moving, Katy. I've done a lot of reading--both nonfiction and fiction--about AIDS. I worked in a hospice in the early 80s and saw a lot of AIDS. It was a time when we were just learning about the disease. Some of the caregivers I met were truly amazing.

TIme to get that coffee. Have a great day everyone!

Katy (katyas-69) | 1731 comments Hey, Terri; I saw a lot of pictures that my cousin and her partner took while they were unrolling it, and I just had tears running down my face the whole time. So sad. You are very strong to be able to work in a hospice. *hugs* to you.

3:31 a.m. EST Just finished the novella, sequel to J. Thorn's The Seventh Seal. Evocative stuff. I'm clearing out e-mail and then reading, although husband wants me to watch Django Unchained with him. We'll see.

9:51PM I am presently reading like a fiend right now. LOL And decided to take a pause for the cause being Good reads.

Sounds like a great evening Chris! Hub and I were just discussing having a date night. We have not had one in soooo long. So it will be nice.

Katy our local gas station used to have the really good Cappucino that we got to make ourselves. They recently changed it now the attendants there make it for you and it was not very good at all. I ordered the vanilla mocha and I did not taste a drop of vanilla. I wont do that again.

message 1795: by Chris (new)

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Janie, you and your husband really should do a date night even if it is at home. We don't always have the extra funds to go out, so we will rent a movie, and I'll either cook something special, or we will do take out. The electronics are put in another room and it is just us after our little one goes to bed. It's nothing amazing but still really nice to have a date night even if it is at home.

10:14 PM and I'm checking in on GR. just relaxing at home watching some tv while I play on my iPad and my wife knits. The perfect picture of domestic bliss. We will both pick up our reading at bed time.

Well, Janie, it was a 9:00PM class and ended at 10:00PM. I got home at around 10:17PM and took a shower. One of the reasons I am sore is because I went last night too. And, yes, when I go there I like to push myself and train hard.

11:59PM. Just relaxing and watching Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.
