I'm looking forward to reading it too, Tim!I wouldn't get too hung up on subtext and interior monologues. That's the kind of stuff that writes itself as you go along. And if you've been told that by a reader, all well and good, but remember that it's your story, and if you've got across the true elements that you set out to convey, be happy with it.
You can over analyse stuff, y'know.
Okay, it took a while but the two new chapters are taking shape nicely. I had to do quite a lot of world building (which you won't see) - essentially inventing a whole layer of scav culture that I had originally intended to leave for book 2, modelling the 23rd century version of a whole city - where the kingsmen compound was located, the scav enclave, how much of it was ruined, what buildings were intact and so on, all without going on a site visit (I do like to visit all my locations for a recce & to take lots of pictures). New characters had to be invented and named, the scenes planned, blocked out and synopsisified.And now it's ready to write.
There's a couple of scenes will need to be adjusted for continuity, and the last two chapters still need their final edit. But I've got the whole weekend for writing, and hopefully I'll get it all finished

Okay, that suffered a little bit from other people having a better idea of what I'm doing at the weekend than I do. The writing went well until the first phone call. From a client. He'd managed to screw up some software I'd written for him some 5 years ago and would I go out there and sort it for him as it absolutely had to be working by monday morning since it was business critical, yadda yadda. Is the network cable plugged in, I ask. yes he said.. So I trolled out there, an hour's drive each way and plugged the network cable back in. Ho hum. That was saturday afternoon blown. Then the doorbell rang: Mates with beer. That was saturday evening blown.I've made good progress today though (just having a diet coke break!), but I doubt I'll be quite finished tonight. Can't see it taking longer than tomorrow though. And I'm not answering the door again. Or the phone. Or the Facebook.

Getting there! New scenes are rit. Just one more chapter to edit.But first, some food, just to stop my eyes from going all swimmy...

97,600 words at the final reckoning (of which 2500 were added today). I shall need to give the new bits a quick readthrough for tippos and hunger-induced bollox. But otherwise it's just the front matter, blurb, & a tweak to the cover... :-D

Just got my Author Central account set up. Seems there was a book on Amazon that I had published in 1985! (what's that, 28 years ago?)It was a fairly crappy computing book. (I wrote it while recovering from glandular fever. At least that's my excuse...)
