Tim | 8539 comments In which case, you're just not showing in the list of likers - just double checked. Patti is there now, but no you :-/

How useless is that? Here's a list of people that like your page except some we missed out, just so you can look like an idiot!

message 602: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Janet is showing as one of the nine of my friends who like your page Tim. :)

message 603: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 817 comments I don't see everyone who has liked my page on my list either. It's annoying. I'd love to know how they decide who will show on the list (it seems to change every time I look at it).

Tim | 8539 comments I'm just reading through a long list of complaints about this on the FB support forum. It seems that how you have your privacy settings affects whether I can see that you've liked my page.

So if Janet's privacy is set to 'only friends', Patti can see that she's liked my page because she's a friend, but I can't because I'm not. So Facebook is basically saying "someone likes you but we're not going to tell you who"

As far as I can tell.

message 605: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've got mine set to only friends too.

Yet you can see me?

message 606: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Yes, cos you're a friend on my private Facebook, so I can see you've liked the page. But Janet would need to set her privacy to at least 'Friends of Friends' for me to see it. And even then changing it now might not work for things she's already liked - it doesn't for posts, so might need to unlike and relike.

It seems this privacy setting on FB is a bit of a minefield - it's certainly a PITA!!

Janet, if you want to check, on your wall under your cover pic, there's a list - Timeline, About, Photos, Friends and More. Put your mouse on More, and you should see a drop down. Click on Likes. You'll see a grid of the pages you've liked. At the top right is a little pencil button. This lets you see and edit the privacy settings.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh right. That makes sense.

Or I could just sulk.

message 610: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Aww now I wouldn't do that. You've uncovered a whole realm of Facebook suckiness. I'd say that was something to be proud of :)

Only if you try and figure out why it's not showing stuff you think it should...

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Makes me proud I'm not on Facebook!

message 613: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Barrett | 1537 comments It's very complicated. And it's why I don't do anything other than post stuff on there. I mean I don't button-push, it's confusing.

I have 40 Likes on my page, but it only shows 31 of them.

message 614: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Anyone who finds a typo in my book and emails me the details of it will get a special mention in the next revised edition! (as well as seeing the typo fixed) How awesome is that!!! :-D

And it just gets awesomer!
As a special bonus prize, whoever reports the most typos will appear as a character in book 2 (although I can't guarantee you'll survive...)

Tim | 8539 comments The Shelfari experiment progresses...

WANTED now has BOOK EXTRAS. Yay!

You can select Book Extras and get background info on Characters & People, Organizations, Settings & Places, Notes for Parents.

Still no X-Ray though.

message 616: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Barrett | 1537 comments Oooh that sounds good, Tim.

I've been a member of Shelfari for years, but I never really progressed with it, always wondered what the point of it was.

If I ever get any spare time...

message 617: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Yeah, and now Anazon has gone and taken Extras out of half its kindles... :-/

message 618: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Still, if I bung all the minor and popup characters in (like Chant, Wailing, Middleton etc) maybe it'll still get X-Ray.

Unless you need to hit a sales threshold or sommat to trigger it. In which case, BUY MY BOOK!!!!!

She got edited out between Version 5 and Version 9!

Tim | 8539 comments Woo Hoo! Amazon has emailed me to say they now have my W8-BEN on file! Woo Hoo!

Now for iBooks... Despite all the nice things I've said about them, they are still denying that I exist and have a valid EIN tax code...

Sassen Frassen Rassen....

message 627: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments Tim, out of interest, how long from postage to email from Amazon did it take?

Also, I used D2D and emailed the form. Do you need to send additional paperwork to Apple?

message 628: by Tim (last edited Jun 04, 2013 01:19AM) (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Let's see... I sent it off on the 20th (Monday), and the email arrived late last night (technically monday... somewhere). So, two weeks.

D2D: I had some printer problems and only managed to get the form scanned yesterday. So I've only just emailed it off.

iTunes just requires you to enter your legal entity name and EIN on their signup page. They then go and "validate" it, which in my case means 3 days later I get an email saying "record not found". I keep retrying, since my guess is that Apple is querying the IRS server at the far end of the universe, and even that must surely get updated someday...

In theory, Apple's is the best, most up to date way of doing it. But in practice it's by far the worst, since they don't give you any account access while validation is pending.

message 629: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments And the written confirmation of the EIN from the IRS arrived in today's post too.

message 630: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments Thanks, Tim. I'm guessing you didn't use D2D for Apple then and went direct?

message 631: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Yeah, cos I have lots of experience with the app store (which was a damn sight easier to get into!). But I still have to option to use D2D if the EIN hurdle proves insurmountable.

message 632: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments I see. Thanks for the info. My letter went to Amazon last week after procrastinating for the last 6months so it shouldn't be too long.

message 633: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Here's a poser:

I just looked on Kobo's site, and WANTED is currently ranked #86 out of 186 in Fiction -> Young Adult -> Dystopia. Which puts it in the top half, and on page 9 of 19 in their list. Fine. But the thing is, I haven't sold a single book on Kobo, and the list is sorted by "Bestsellers". So how did it get ranked so high?

message 634: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Got the paperback proof in the post today :D Something else to read... lol

message 635: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Barrett | 1537 comments Wonderful feeling aint it!

message 636: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Now it's uploaded to the iBooks store too. Let's see how long it takes them to make it available...

message 637: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments I'm now halfway through reading Wanted.

What's this? You say, but haven't you already read it like, fifty times? Well yes that's true (although I think it's only forty-seven times), but this time I'm reading it out loud. Into a microphone. With a recording device on the other end.

That's right, Wanted is coming to audio!

More details when I get my voice back. ;)

message 638: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Whahey! I can read it while I sew!

message 639: by Sammi (new)

Sammi (Sammi-N) | 98 comments oh sweet! Audio is an amazing idea :)

message 640: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Well I've finished reading out umpty tump hours of book, all 41 chapters now stored as mp3 files or aifs or something on the computer. Reckon the whole thing will edit out at somewhere around 12 hours. Eventually.

But I'm going to retitle the book "Bugger. I'll read that bit again!"

Although I have to warn you: I might have a face for radio, but I've got a voice for silent movies!

message 641: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Will we be able to buy it on CDs? I don't have one of those mp3 thingies.

message 642: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments No, it's only really viable as MP3. Anyhow my plan is probably to release it in instalments.

message 643: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Going to have to drag myself into the 21st century then, aren't I? Better find out what they do and how they work. I think me sister's got one.

Tim | 8539 comments I've got an old iPod Touch in my "To get rid of" pile (I've got a lot of things in my "to get rid of" pile - including that dratted KK that I can't even give away! I should rename it my "can't get rid of" pile...) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353#iP...
