Tim | 8539 comments Price goes up on Sunday. Just thought I'd mention, in case anyone's dithering over buying... ;)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Buy, buy, buy!
Get it while it's - erm - tepid?
Did I do that right?

Tim | 8539 comments Still a few hours at the old price...

I've been pondering the idea of chapter titles. I keep doing it, although I also keep deciding against, at least in the ebook version I have anyway. But I'm working on readying the 2nd edition paperback (it's a bit sooner than I'd prefer, but I've got a decent selling opportunity in October, and it'd be nice to have the new cover etc ready for that, even if book 2 won't be out yet.)

I'd be interested in your opinions, either as readers or writers - to title or not to title...

Anyhow, I sneak peaked my working titles on my blog - http://www.tim-arnot.com/?p=603

message 815: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I used to like chapter titles, but now I prefer not. I think they work well for a young audience. Seems a lot of new books don't have chapters, never mind titles.

message 816: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Yes, it seems that more YA books do than don't, and this is ultimately a YA book. But I'm used to not having them, which is why I keep vacillating...

message 817: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Peeked? I rather like chapter titles. If they're clever they can add a great deal.

message 818: by Andy (new)

Andy Elliott | 1446 comments Depending on the genre, a clever chapter title can act as a neat little trailer as to what the next few pages have in store. You're chapter titles on your blog would certainly do that.

Cos they're the tops...

Tim | 8539 comments Got me first 1* on Amazon. Suppose it was inevitable really, but not the best way to start a monday. Ho hum. Onwards and upwards...

message 821: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments But please don't rush off and downvote it - nothing worse than hitting off on a 1* reviewer!

message 822: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments With only three reviews you're not exactly being dissed by a big-hitter. People do take that into account.

How old? Christmas special. Like the sound of that! Do you get the prize for the first mention of the season?

message 827: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Twas the night before Christmas and inside the palace
A thief crept about, his heart filled with malice
The silver, locked up in the chancery store
Next morn when they looked, it would be there no more.

The gold, it was gone, the silver and more
A big chest of money to give to the poor
But that isn't all, for our thief, he was shoddy
And left in his wake, all bloody, a body

Jessica's away doing her 'princess thing',
The Kingsmen are busy guarding their king
Just Socko is left to figure it out
With Corporal Dan, will they do it? No doubt!

Tim | 8539 comments Got another nice 4-star review this evening:

'Being a “Hunger Games” fan made me decide to read and review this book. At first I thought that this is just a mock-up of the Hunger Games because of its post-apocalyptic storyline but then when I read the book every turn of the page proved me wrong. All were delivered differently, storyline, characters, themes and style. I love the way the author did the world-building which was expertly done that makes the story more believable. There may be some scenes that the book could go on without. But all in all this is a great read and I can’t wait to read the sequel. I’ll definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves post-apocalyptic stories that would keep you on edge.'

:D

Tim | 8539 comments Didn't get a lot of yer actual writing done today - probably only 500 or so words, but what I did do was change a major location, which integrated two locations into one (saving on all that messy travel). Lots of rewriting needs doing as a result (:() but there's a couple of good new scenarios coming out of it, and we meet a new character (codename Kilo India November Golf) in a highly unusual way...

Going to have to do a set visit to check a few things out. The new location? Blenheim Palace!

If the weather's lousy you could just watch Branagh's Hamlet. If memory serves all of the exteriors were shot at Blenheim Palace and its a magnificent piece of epic cinema to boot.

Tim | 8539 comments For fun, I rewrote my blurb to be exactly 100 words. A drabblurb perhaps... Anyway, feel free to pick it apart. :)

23rd Century England. No oil. No electricity. The few remaining people get by as best they can, improvising and living off the land, or scavenging through long-derelict cities for scraps and trinkets.

When Sixteen year old Flick Carter saves the life of an injured Scav, she discovers he has secrets. Secrets the authorities want badly. But someone else wants them too, and they will will stop at nothing, not even murder.

For Flick, the small town of Faringdon is suddenly not safe. Accused of murder, and with no one left she can trust, she must flee for her life.

message 835: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I'm in no position to comment on blurbs, Tim. In the 1st blurb competition I only came 6th :~(

Obviously I need to hone my blurb writing skills.

message 836: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments I didn't enter that - obviously there was no point since I was book of the month all summer. But I might just try a 50 word version, to see if it retains any coherence...

message 837: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I found it a tough ask.

message 839: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I love the drablurb! At school (on the Ark!) we used to be given a passage from a book and asked to reduce it to 50 words and still keep the sense. You can make every words count but you can't start with too long a piece. I used to enjoy it which is probably why I like drabbling. That, and the fact that sometimes it's a stretch to make one of my thought long enough for 100 words. I could probably write sound-bites!

Tim | 8539 comments The 50 word blurb:

Flick Carter is just an ordinary sixteen year old in a ruined 23rd Century England. When a boy she saved from a plane crash turns out to be wanted by the law, everyone she knows is put in danger, and she finds herself on the run and wanted for murder…

Tim | 8539 comments It took ages for Amazon to sort it out, but finally it looks like the update to WANTED has now been made available to everyone. If you delete your copy of WANTED from your Kindle, and re-download it, you should now get the latest update. Or it might happen automatically if you have that option enabled.

You can tell if you have the latest version because it has the date code 20130903 on the copyright page (and the new cover, & chapter titles).

message 850: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments You're such a tease. I think I shall get a paperback for my collection. It won't be signed though. Would you mind popping you signature on a £20 note and sending it to me? Then I can slip it into the book. Probably. Fnar, fnar.
