Tim | 8539 comments They're a bit thin - obviously, cos they're only 40-odd pages each, but they're correspondingly cheap too. part of the problem with thin books is, they don't let you put a title on the spine (at least CreateSpace doesn't). I really liked the thematic covers - black & white with just a splash of colour in the title, and so I carried that over to the spine and back, and made them a solid block of colour. Easy to spot on the shelf - the blue one, or the yellow one!

Book 3 will be the red one.

(I've got a tentative title - Socko's First Fire. I think you might guess what it's about. But I'm not going to start on that till I've finished the editing on Hunted (going less well than I would have liked - big chunks being rewritten, new sections to be added...)

Tim | 8539 comments Yesterday I added a new character in the edit/rewrite.

Today I killed him off.

Bwahahahaha!

Tim | 8539 comments A little teasy-weasy for HUNTED:

"You should know by now that the world is run by a bunch of morons and arseholes, but that’s no excuse to go around shooting them. Dammit, Jessica, it’s a good thing you missed anything vital, or you might have started world war four, or five, or whatever the hell number they're up to!"
- Alexander I, King of New Britain.

Coming soon...

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments You said that about Wanted... for nearly a year! :)

Tim | 8539 comments A wonderful new 5 star review for WANTED has appeared on Amazon:

"I really enjoyed reading this book. It had me hooked and wanting more. The storyline is gripping and the characters well developed. You are immediately drawn to the main character of the book, Flick Carter, and you will definitely be waiting to buy the next in the series."

:D

Apparently I'm blond.

Tim | 8539 comments No probs. I's been one of those "run off my feet" days, or I'd have got around to mentioning it earlier. Should be wibbling around FB and twitter too by now. :)

message 1015: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I'm spreading the word about it as well, on my fb wall the discussion has moved to elephants....

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Those darn elephants get everywhere! Oh look, here they are...

message 1017: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments But don't the roses look well

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Bit flat though...

message 1019: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments well you cannot have everything

It's a thread which still has its own curtains, nice roses and a vague farmyard smell due to the elephants

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I'm just trying to process the thought of an elephant farm.

message 1021: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments You have to process it slowly, but somewhere where you've got plenty of room

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I think I'll go to the Phoenix Park then.

message 1023: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments To be surrounded by elephants?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments They do tend to follow me round rather. And the Zoo is in the Park as well.

message 1025: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments It's a beggar when the elephants start to sneak up on you

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments They are surprisingly good at sneaking for such large animals.

message 1027: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments comes from nesting in rhubarb trees you know

message 1029: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments It's a very untidy nest, elephants are obviously related to rooks

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I bow to your superior knowledge.

message 1031: by M.T. (new) - added it

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Does that make it a parliament of elephants now then? And a herd of rooks?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Well a parliament of elephants could only be an improvement!

message 1033: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments But should a motion be tabled, the table may need bracing

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments So will the benches!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Not to mention the lavatories and sewage system.

Tim | 8539 comments Could be good for the roses though, if not for the nose.

Jim | 21812 comments Just needs a big dose of salts

Tim | 8539 comments & god alone know when I'll actually see it!

message 1042: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Barrett | 1537 comments Oi Tim, how you getting on with Hunted. Just read First Day again today. Very good.

Now gerramoovon!

message 1043: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments I'm about 6k off the end of Hunted (2nd draft, with big rewrites) - around 94000 words total. Then there will be a continuity pass to see how it holds together, and after that it'll go out to betas.

I'm not going to give a timescale, cos I've been notoriously bad at hitting deadlines this past year - so much crap just gets in the way of writing! I think I need staff...

Book 3 is getting a move on though (current working title is "Defeated" but it changes regularly!) Socko plays a major part in that - he's a POV character. It follows straight on from the end of Hunted, so the development has been going on in parallel.

In theory I've got no other work on after this month till at least the end of June (bad news for the financials), which should give me a good run at it. Unless I end up stacking shelves in Tescos, that is!

message 1046: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Hurrah! Second draft finally finished :D 83,000 words. Which is only 7000 words shorter than the first draft, despite hacking out a 30,000 word sub-plot!

Gonna take a day or two away from it before I give it a read through, then i'll be looking for beta readers. ;)

message 1047: by Kath (new) - rated it 5 stars
