Tim | 8539 comments Last chance to get a copy of WANTED at the absolute STEAL price of 99p!

Heres what they said:
"Loved this story! Not the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last either. Great characters and development of the storyline and have to say I wanted to cause physical bodily harm to the 'baddie' lol. I don't do spoilers so you'll have to read for yourself to find out who I'm talking bout! Flick and Shea - what can I say - loved these two and can't wait to read the next instalment of the story - which I've already bought!" ★★★★★

Sale ends Sunday, so don't delay!

Tim | 8539 comments Now that August is over and the dust has settled, lets have a quick review of the month.
There were two big events in August: first the launch of Hunted, and second the 99p promo of Wanted.

First off, Hunted was launched to some great reviews, but lacklustre sales, despite lots of promo, Facebook & Twitter campaigns. A big problem is still that the big YA blogs with lots of readers refuse to consider books by SP authors, and the little blogs that do, get very little traction. Still, it sold 30 copies and 1 borrow, which puts it on a par with Wanted in its first month. Which basically suggests very little audience growth in that time.

The two Socko shorts have been doing nothing for some considerable time - just ticking over at about 1 sale a month. But they both saw some pick up in august, selling 5 copies each, no doubt off the back of the other promotions.

Wanted saw the biggest leap, selling 83 copies (didn't quite make the big 100). I ran three paid promotions: The Fussy Librarian, which cost just $5, but only made $2.40. A KUF ad which cost £8 and made nothing, and an EReader News Today ad, which cost $15 and made $19
Sadly there were two returns for refund.

So, a number of firsts and personal bests:
-First month in 2014 with more than single-digit sales
-First ad that paid for itself
-First time in a US chart (#68 in Dystopian)
-Highest overall US ranking (#7601)
-Most books sold in a single month (123)
-Most copies of a single book sold in a single month (83)
-Most books sold in a single day (34)
-Most books sold in a weekend (46)
-First month over $100

Tim | 8539 comments Hey, I've just had a payment notification from CreateSpace - hadn't realised I'd even sold any paperbacks!

message 1215: by M.T. (new) - added it

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Top numbers Tim! Well done. A friend of mine says she gets quite a bit of cash from createspace even though she's surprised anyone buys her paperbacks. I keep meaning to have a look at it, myself, alongside lightning source. Soon. Nice going anyway, you deserve it. :-)

Cheers

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Mwahahaaargh! Yeh, my paperback sales are a bit like that. Join the ALCS as well. I've had the odd royalty cheque from them which has been far more than I made in book sales.

Cheers

MTM

Ah. May I recommend a joyous activity known as sitting with a Kindle in your hand and periodically tapping the Next button while allowing the richness of the words displayed on the screen to wash over you in bubbling fountains of imagination...

Tim | 8539 comments Hunted Last day at 99p

Princess... frog... kissing... boom...
Actually I don't think there's a frog. But there is a princess. And lots of boom. Oh yes. Boom.

Don't wait till tomorrow cos it'll cost you extra!

message 1225: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments So, 99p was too cheap for ya? Check out the awesome new price of £1.99! A cut above that horrid bargain bin; elegance and style yet still maintaining an air of exceptional value...

And you still get a princess, a girl, a wicked w... er, flying things, horses, people with guns, a prince, a golden chalice, serial killer, cuddly toy, big sticks, beer bottles, a massive explosion, GL's Dungeon, secret tunnels, posh dinner for 50, rowing boat... :)

Tim | 8539 comments Countdown results are in...

Total: Hunted sales: 34, borrows: 1
Follow-through sales (Wanted): 8

Breakdown: UK sales: 8 + 1 borrow. No follow-through (it's been a month since I sold a copy of Wanted in the UK)

US sales: 25. + 8 follow-through sales of Wanted

CA sales: 1 (full price, since Canada doesn't get the countdown discount)

The two ads I ran did nothing in the UK (predictable). The BKnights Fiverr ad netted just 3 sales, making $1.05 on a $10 spend (i.e. useless). The ENT ad netted 22 discount sales + 8 full price sales, easily covering the $15 cost. Nonetheless, I'm still $5 down on the month, spending $25 on advertising to make $20.

None of the UK channels ran my Countdown deal (partly why it did so poorly here)

message 1227: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Sorry it didn't do better, Tim.

I'm running another countdown deal soon, and posting with ENT this time, so I'm pleased to see that one paid off at least. Little more expensive for a thriller though: $25. On the up side, a lot cheaper than bookbub.

message 1228: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments It was the follow-through sales of wanted in the US that really stopped it from being a complete disaster. Of course, I haven't sold a single thing since the Countdown ended.

message 1229: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments It's getting frontline visibility on Amazon that promotes the momentum, unfortunately that requires tons of sales. I appear to have managed it with my thriller, but the fantasy titles are nowhere near.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Crackling goes pop? That's not a waste, crackling should go pop if it's going to be worth eating.

message 1236: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Pork scratchings can go boom. They take good, proper English crackling and add stuff to it that (a) makes it taste disgusting and (b) gives me gas. (which brings up an aftertaste of the disgusting - eww)

Why they can't just take some pork crackling and put it in a bag is beyond me.

message 1237: by M.T. (new) - added it

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Pork crackling wouldn't keep. Have you ever crackled with a microwave? Seriously, it's amazing, although it will coat your entire microwave in fat unless you put it in a sealed pot. But it really does it well. Put some soggy skin in and a minute on high later you have amazing crackling.

message 1238: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Maybe I'll try that.

message 1239: by David (new)

David Hadley Tim wrote: "Pork scratchings can go boom."

Proper pork scratchings are one of the wonders of the Earth.

Of course, you need to know where to go to get them:

message 1240: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Wanted has moved back into Select.

I have a theory that the reason I'm not getting any borrows of Hunted is cos it's book 2, and they can't borrow book 1. So this will allow borrows of both books, and... well, we shall see.

message 1241: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yep, makes no sense to have book two available but not book one. To me anyway.

Same with doing a special offer on a later book in a series. Unless I've already got the earlier ones. Then I'm all for it. ;)
