Tim | 8539 comments So I went to the post office to post a copy of the SpaSpa Award Winning WANTED off to the raffle winner, and while I was out, I bemoaned on some other forum the fact that my CreateSpace proofs hadn't arrived.

So guess what? While I was out, the postie shoved a card through my letterbox. "while you were out..."

So, I haven't got my proofs cos the postie couldn't deliver them cos I was sitting in a cafe, on the internet complaining that I didn't have my proofs...

How Ironic is that!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments And you can't collect them till tomorrow because they need 24 hours to remember where they put them. They do round here, anyway.

message 1103: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments That happened to me too, although I'd just nipped round to the shop. Posties' revenge for having to carry so many Amazon parcels.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I arranged to have a trunk full of stuff shipped to the UK, and I rang them up to ask about packaging before I entered the order on the website. I was told I would have to wrap it in a certain kind of plastic which I could order on the website, which I did to be delivered today, and the trunk picked up tomorrow.

I got a phone call earlier to say that the plastic would be arriving between 6 and 7 this evening, and the girl also said that it would be black plastic instead of the clear plastic I had ordered as that would work better for my trunk. It turned out she was the same person I had spoken to yesterday about the packaging, and she had figured out that the order for plastic was the one she had talked to me about. I LIKE that shipping company! They put many other companies I have to deal with to shame. And its a very reasonable price too.

Tim | 8539 comments They obviously remembered, cos I went round just before the sorting office closed, and they had them :)

Okay, quick side-by-side to the old FeedARead edition:

As with the Socko books, I notice the cover has a slight tint compared to the FAR edition (if I hold them both up to my monitor -- which isn't calibrated -- the FAR cover looks spot on to the screen image, while the CS accentuates the reds in the grungy wall.

The difference is that CS requires a single pdf, while FAR requires multiple jpegs (in theory the pdf should be better because it's Zip compressed rather than jpeg compressed, so there's no data loss. But there may be RGB colour space information present/missing, which could make a difference. Elements can't do CMYK colours, and I can't afford the £600 for full Photoshop, so I'm stuck with whatever process conversion the printer uses.)

The paper used in the CS edition is a much darker creme, but it feels much the same to the touch. It's slightly thicker and heavier, but that's because I went up a half point size on the text. (11.5pt Minion Pro)

Oh, and I've found an error! (whistles...)

I'll try and do a side by side photo, but it'll have to wait till tomorrow, when there's decent light.

message 1106: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments There's definitely dot gain on the CS printed covers, Tim. Mine looses detail in any area over 85% strength. The covers ordered direct from Amazon appear to be better than the ones ordered from createspace. The couple I've seen at least.

Tim | 8539 comments The paperback edition of Wanted is now just £5.63 (was 8.99) - last few copies of the FeedARead edition before it switches to CreateSpace!

Tim | 8539 comments Okay, I'm on the scrounge!

I'm looking for donations of giveaways for my Facebook launch event - ebooks, swag, whatever, paperbacks even, if you're feeling rich (as if!) - to use as competition prizes (you set the questions) or rewards for page likes etc. All donations gratefully received. :)

The only restriction is that anything you offer must be equivalent to a 15 certificate or under. i.e.. suitable for a mid-teen, so no erotica.

Also, I can offer author takeovers, where you get to run the show for an hour, and pimp yourself/your books to the nines live to real (possibly) people (unlike the normal tumbleweed)...

Or if you're feeling desperately stupid, you could co-host...

pretty please, thanks, hugs, kisses, hearty handshakes as appropriate. :)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'd love to help, Tim, but I don't think my writing to date is young-person friendly!

I'm sure you'll get some suitable stuff offered. People are generous.

Tim | 8539 comments A free half-drabble with today's!

Barely visible through the tumbleweed, our intrepid partygoers found another sign. Ripping away the dry vegetation they gathered around it to read its awesome message.
"Why's there a big beer glass sailing up the river?" one asked.
"And how come it's got two straws in it? Straws are for sissys..."

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments When is it? It's the holidays right now and so I've changed from a human being into Mumzilla so helping out with a live slot might be tricky. However, I'd be happy to offer copies of all four e-books. The only thing is they do contain rape (off screen) murder, torture, talk of ethnic cleansing and general fighting (hand to hand, swords etc) on screen. There is also a bit at the end which is probably about the same level as the face melting bit in Raiders of the Lost Ark (but not as good) although thinking about it that was a12 wasn't it. So, yeh, they're there if you want them, if you think they'd fit the bill.

Cheers

MTM

Tim | 8539 comments Cheers Mary :) it's on the 16th (sat), that's... 22 days - i.e. 3 weeks tomorrow. 12 till midnight. :)

If you can do a k'barthan hour, that would be brill, but don't worry if not - let me know how you want the giveaway handled - 1 big prize or split, & if you have a question they need to answer or a page they need to like or just 1st past the post or whatever. & feel free to send me some promo images etc to pimp them with. :)

And my books can get quite violent too, with a high body count!

Immediately under a poster with the date on, M.T. wrote: "When is it?"
Shows how effective the posters are (sigh) ;)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Right. That's the day I'm supposed to be going to LonCon so it might be tricky. Let me think about it ;-). One big prize for the competition and I'll try to think of an interesting question. Otherwise I guess just a prize draw and scuse my poor sight! Phnark.

message 1128: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Yeah, I forgot about LonCon. :(

If they have wifi, you could do a Special "Live from LonCon" Location Report... ;) (Jim is supposed to be going, but I don't think he knows what wifi is ;)

B J Burton (bjburton) | 2680 comments I'll happily donate a couple of print copies of my first Dartmoor novel. Do with them as you wish. I can send them to you or you can pm me with the names and addresses and I'll post them to the unbelievably fortunate winners in due course.

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments Hi Tim,

I can donate a few ebooks if you want 'em....

message 1131: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Thanks both, that's very generous. :D

BJ, it'll be easier if I just give you the addresses after the event, then maybe you could sign & personalise it?. Do you want to place any restrictions (such as UK only)?

DD, let me know what you want people to do for them - likes or whatever. And what format - mobi / epub / pdf. I'll send you the email address of the winners afterwards.

Or if you fancy doing a takeover for an hour - you could big up Gentian, or your books, or whatever really... :)

Oh, I thought it was going to be a rafflcopter giveaway. Umm... I don't know, I've never done a giveaway like that before: what do you suggest?

I'll do the books through smashwords so that all formats are available, just tell me which books you want and how many copies.

message 1134: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Dunno - never done rafflecopter. Since this is live, it'll be "1st person with the right answer" or "1st person to reply" kind of thing - very simple, very immediate. That seems to be the way it's done from my "vast" research. Winner gets an email after the event with the file, or link to a download etc.

message 1135: by B J (new)

B J Burton (bjburton) | 2680 comments Yes, I suppose a UK-only restriction would be sensible.

I had to send something to Italy the other day. I'd costed it all out a few months ago, so happily went to the post office... It's gone up! By a *lot* - at least £1.70. That completely wiped out any money I might have made on that sale :(

See what you think of the blurb:

For seventeen year old Flick Carter, things have hit rock bottom. Devastated by the loss of her family, her only escape from the nightmares comes in a bottle.

But when someone starts brutally murdering her friends, Flick finds herself facing a different kind of killer, and a conspiracy that goes all the way to the Palace.

Friendless and alone, Flick must harness all her inner strength and overcome her demons if she is to stay alive...

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well, I already have - but as a point of information, it never sells anything to me to be asked why not do so-and-so. If the seller can't give me a good reason why I should then I don't. I wouldn't buy/read/eat anything simply because I couldn't think of a reason why not!

Yep, woke up in snappy old bird mode this morning!

Tim | 8539 comments If anyone wants to mount a takeover in the launch party, there's a booking form pinned to the top of the event page (coups, takeovers and government overthrows strictly by appointment only. No buskers.)

Pimp your own books / blog/ music / chocolate / bacon products as much as you like, and bring silly internet games for us to play.

Here's a direct link to the form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1y9si... Please send me a PM if you book a slot, so I can mark it as taken. :)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments After 20 minutes slowly cutting and pasting on my crappy apple browser it reloaded the entire form, empty, just as I was about to press send. I'm afraid I'll have to do it again when I have access to a real computer. Sigh but basically I can do a mug to the uk, us, Australia, N Z and Canada. Is that any good? :-)

Www.zazzle.co.uk/drawnbyhand* the green and yellow one.
