Tim | 8539 comments Did a Costas run a bit earlier (massive queues cos of the Remembrance parade) Rather disappointing that it's not even the middle of November and they've got lights up, stupid elf costumes and that awful "music" playing. :(

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Generally speaking, I enjoy Christmas. It's a necessary midwinter festival. If I were King of The World I'd have it banned till the weekend before Dec. 25th, though. Then you'd appreciate it more.

message 1253: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments I'd definitely enjoy it more if we hadn't been subjected to two months of it already!

There's a new sign on the edge of town I saw today, apparently they're building a "Drive-thru Costa" Umm...

message 1254: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments A drive through Costa has appeared near us. I only drive past. Coffee is disgusting and I'm not paying that price for tea. Seems a bit dangerous too, hot drinks and driving.

I'm all for Christmas being one week only. Can we do the same with winter (perhaps three weeks) and extend summer?

message 1255: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments I'm all in favour of coffee, but with the quality of drivers on our roads, giving them a hot cup of the stuff to spill over themselves while driving can only add to the accident statistics, surely.

Now, If I had the money, I could easily embrace the nomad lifestyle and head south for the winter...

Christmas actually starts on the 25th of December and lasts for twelve days
Before that, it's just Advent

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Try telling that to shops and advertisers.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Christmas starts earlier in garden centres than in other parts of the universe.

Tim | 8539 comments "As binding as if it came from the king herself."

I Kinda wish I'd thought of that 5 or 6 books ago, instead of in a fevered nightmare! Ah well, another series maybe...

Look out for the cover reveal for Keble Caper, coming soon. :)

Tim | 8539 comments Got a great review for Hunted on Oxford's Daily Info:

"Hunted is the second part of the Flick Carter series by Oxfordshire author Tim Arnot. The story takes place in a post-oil, post-information-age England, where most of the population have returned to pre-industrial subsistence living. The heroine is 17-year-old Felicity ‘Flick' Carter, who is struggling to rebuild her life after returning to the village of Faringdon following the events of Book 1 (Wanted). Haunted by the loss of her family, and the deaths of two men she was forced to kill in self-defence, Flick's only solace comes in bottle after bottle of the local rotgut. Once more driven from her home, she finds herself desperately trying to keep one step ahead of an assassin who is killing everyone in his way to get to her.

"Hunted picks up right where Wanted left off in terms of pace and excitement, as the reader is pulled along in Flick's wake. The book is certainly a page-turner, with Flick catapulted from one misadventure to the next. In fact, there are places where the action perhaps rushes by a little too fast; the section covering Flick's unwanted military training, for example, is one of the most enjoyable parts of the book, but seems to be over much too quickly. Flick is such a likeable character, however, that you are always rooting for her no matter how quickly she lurches from one potential disaster to another.

"Hunted is aimed at the ‘young adult' age range (12–18), and parents should be aware that the book does contain some violence and occasional swearing.

"Overall, Hunted is a very strong follow-up to Wanted, the author's debut novel, and even feels a little more polished than its predecessor. It comes highly recommended, and I am very much looking forward to seeing how Flick's story continues."

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Hope it's been a good run, Tim. Mine finishes today too so let us hope it doesn't all go quiet.

Tim | 8539 comments Thanks Anna. I'm 63 and 69 in the UK Dystopia chart at the mo :)

Mind you, it's done nothing in the US.

Jim | 21812 comments congratulations!

message 1281: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Nice one, Tim. You're not alone in not being able to crack that American market.

message 1282: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments It's interesting, if I get one of the big US ads - ENT etc, I sell in the US and do nothing in the UK. This promo has been the opposite - no pay ads (I did get both books onto IBB though, across 2 days) & just FB, Twitter & the forums.

What was extra interesting: A few weeks ago they were talking about mailshots on the Self Publishing Podcast. and one thing they mentioned was "last chance email", and how they did so much worse when they forgot to send it. Since I'd never heard of that, I thought I'd give it a try, and sent out a bunch of "last chance" posts (you can see one above). I've sold far more today than on any other day in this promo! (Hot Tip!)

message 1283: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Noted :~)

message 1284: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Well done, Tim! My results are the reverse - few sales in the UK but plenty in the US, thankfully. I do try and send out 'last chance' posts too. Did we authors ever realize that there would be almost as much time spent on marketing as on writing?

message 1285: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I didn't. Naively, I thought I'd publish a book and people would buy it.

message 1286: by Tim (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments Hahahaha! Good one! :(

message 1287: by Tim (last edited Feb 26, 2015 01:11AM) (new) - added it

Tim | 8539 comments The paperback proofs of First Fire have finally arrived (yay!) Actually this is the second set, since the original proofs never arrived. When I emailed them about it, CS were good enough to ship a second set on 3 day priority (they were only printed on the 22nd). So good on ya CreateSpace. :)

This one is actually thick enough to get a title on the spine! (it's 100 pages & change). The ebook version is, of course, still free and exclusive to my mailing list - http://eepurl.com/bacyez to sign up.

So here's the obligatory blurry selfie...

Tim | 8539 comments I appear to have become secretary of my local writers group. I'm not going to say something churlish like "I wonder how that happened." I know exactly how it happened - I got voted in. Something clearly has gone wrong with the universe.
