Quite right, Anna - more whistling is required. Whistling milkmen and postmen have vanished. Let's replace them with whistling authors.
Tomorrow I will be passing the 90K mark, writing my first dogfight (the aerial kind, not the canine kind!), and someone won't survive . . .

I'm chugging through this one, but it's looking to be rather long - I'm up to Hunted's word count and there's still a good deal to go.
Good old David has seen through my ruse to blame you for my dust and I'm not doing any dusting while I'm on holiday, so you'll just have to get kicked up the top again.100,000 words and you can award yourself a day off, a favourite tipple and a sticky bun.
I wrote the dogfight, and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. There's a certain amount of puking!One more chapter to go with this subplot, and then it's back to the main action. :)
Then it's the second draft, then the third, then the beta read press gang, then just maybe...No wonder we're all doolally.
Todays total, 113,000 words, and I'm down to single digit chapters left to do (which means between about 7000 and 30000 to go, depending on how long/short those chapters wind up)
Anyone here speak (or better yet, write) Spanish by any chance?My characters have just encountered someone yelling at them in Spanish, and I'd rather not trust to the absurdities of Google Translate if I can help it.
The phrases I need translated are,
"Did you not read the sign?"
"This is private land. You’re not welcome!"
and the ubiquitous "Go away or I’ll set my dogs on you!"
They don't need to be 100% literal, if there's a better colloquialism. Muchos gracias if you can help out :)

I think this is what they call the "extended ending!" Still hoping to have the draft finished before next weekend's bash. Definitely the longest thing I've ever written though!
My latest - I wrote THE END today - is my longest. It's a sniff under 70K. Yours is bigger than mine! ;)
STRANDED / FC3 has now reached 2nd draft (yay!), and is ready to go out to beta readers (yay!)If you'd like to beta read, and can reasonably guarantee to read 130,000 words (approx 300 pages of A4) and report back within the next week or two, please get in touch. :)

So this is my first poke at a cover for Stranded. Please feel free to comment - good / bad / indifferent. The text is fixed, for consistency with the rest of the series, but the imagery is fluid & most things can be changed (sunny sky maybe?) The sea needs work - breakers & white caps mostly, & recolouring to better match the sky. The rocks need to be rougher, lighting & shadows need to be sorted... anyhow this is just a prototype to see if the concept works.
I like anything to do with the sea and this gives the feeling of being stranded. As you say, to add details which would increase the sense of peril, rolling waves and so on, would probably be good.
Bits of broken ship / boat . . .

Roosting vampire bats, footprints, large animal paw prints, the shadow of something large and nasty and when you open the paperback cover, it should squeal. Perhaps you could have a giant size cover 'cos we want to see all of this and more.
And zombie elephants.
I think we got just a tiny bit carried away with it...
4th draft is finished and ready to go off to His Holiness . . . :)
Well done, Tim. You're romping ahead of me. I'm about to put writing on hold in an attempt to master the Christmas preparations. I hope to come back to writing in a couple of weeks' time.
Let's hope His Holiness gives it his blessing. ;)
Indeed. 127K and change. 4th draft was a big edit - Took a lot out, put a lot in, stirred vigorously. More work on the cover now . . .
