I am praying that these votes change since I read both books that are leading in votes right now and do not want to re-read them again (liked Julie and Julia but read it so recently; hated PPZ!)
Is there a way to have the poll list show up in order of total votes? I'm trying to see if my favored book is winning, but I have to scan through all the titles to do it because there seems to be no logical order to the list (and there's a LOT of titles...wish it could be pared down, but oh well. Voting closes in a few days).
I echo the same this as Nicole. And also, books like Julie and Julia work perfectly for more than one of the challenges.
I'm hoping for a last minute change too, Nicole. Julie and Julia and PPZ both have huge waiting lists at my library, and I read Shadow of the Wind not too long ago.I just changed my vote to try and bump of one of the other contenders (the book I originally voted for has no chance of winning). No sense in wasting my vote, right? Lol.
ooh! we can change the votes! i have been dying to read House of Leaves, but it always looks so DAUNTING sitting on my shelf. LOL
I've been the same way with that book Nicole. I really want to read it, but I think I need a challenge to give me the proper motivation.ETA Thanks for the reminder - I forgot that book was even on the list
Oh no, I've already read the four books that are currently with the highest votes. And recently, too! :(
I'm surprised The White Tiger isn't getting more love. It looked like the favorite during the ideas thread. I'm sad about that, because it's my second choice.
yeah I figured American Psycho is out of the running so I'll jump ship, and House of Leaves sounds interesting :0)I would encourage others who voted for a book with only one or two votes to have a look at the books that are winning and vote for the one that you would want to read the most as they are all pretty much running neck in neck.
Ella Minnow Pea is possibly one of the best books I've ever read, everyone should read it at some point (I think, anyway) but seems to be out of the running, so House of Leaves it is for me too!

I'm probably going to change my vote here too. The one I want only has 4 votes--so no chance by now! I also just read Shadow of the Wind a few months ago and even though I really loved it and wouldn't mind rereading it someday, it's just too soon.
I'm also nervous about other winners going to insanely popular titles that have a wait-list at the library. Being wait-listed at the library makes it almost impossible to make a plan and stick to it which is very important for these challenges!!!
I also have trouble getting popular titles from the library in a timely manner. I could reserve PPZ or Julie & Julia today and still not see it before the end of the challenge.
Changed my vote too since it only had one vote. (We Have Always Lived in the Castle) I voted instead for House of Leaves. I've read it before, but I wouldn't mind reading it again for the challenge.
Lyn wrote: "So just so I am sure - We only vote for one, and the top 3 are the group reads, correct. We don't vote for three. "REALLY??? Oh, thank goodness! I was like, "What if I don't like any of the 3 monthly reads?" But if there are 3 PER month... that's more like it.
Sorry, Sara, it's one per month for 3 per season. That's why I'm still pulling for Shadow of the Wind. I JUST bought it and can't get any of the other books easily. C'mon, everyone receive my psychic commands!
Oh.... sad.... I'm really afraid about some of these books... They look scary. I can't read scary books or I get nightmares, so at this point, I care more about certain books NOT getting picked than any one particular book GETTING picked... which is why I switched my vote to something "tolerable"...
Since some books only have a few votes, could we have a run-off pole with books that have more than 5 or 6 votes?

Just to clarify: you won't have to read all 3 books to earn points - each person can select ONE of the 3 winning books to read and that book will be worth 20 points.
I think I'm leaning more towards Shutter Island now that I was before... aren't they making it into a movie soon as well?
Shutter Island was made into a movie. It was supposed to come out in October but they recently just pushed it back until February.

I know... but there's no telling what the next two months' books will end up being... And I hate not knowing ahead of time, you know?

Sara, what she means is we only have to read one Group Read book during the course of the entire challenge. This is the only time (for the Fall Challenge) that we're voting. The 3 books with the most votes (the number 3 was just chosen because the challenge is 3 months long) are the winning books. Of those 3 books, you only have to read one to complete the task, which is worth 20 points. You can read the book at any point during the challenge, but once you've read it the task is done.

Oh, I forgot... come on, House of Leaves! lolI really liked Shutter Island though, so I'm glad to see it doing so well.
The way I am understanding Cynthia's post about the group reads is that we are going to have one book for each month, so which ever book has the most votes for September will be one of the books and then we vote again in October and November.

The top three books voted for in this poll will be the books for this challenge - we won't nominate or vote again until it's time for the winter challenge. If there is a tie I'll break the tie (I don't plan on voting in the initial poll). I thought I'd see how this went and then make changes as need be to how the group reads are selected for the next challenge. Probably have themes for each month and what not.
Cait wrote: "This is the only time (for the Fall Challenge) that we're voting. The 3 books with the most votes (the number 3 was just chosen because the challenge is 3 months long) are the winning books."I missed Cynthia's explanation of this fact in the poll thread.

I think that themes would be nice. If you wanted to have the books chosen upfront (like now), we could have three separate polls (one for each theme) at the get-go.

That's right! What an awesome combination! I haven't seen the preview yet... but I'm going to have to Google it b/c now I'm even more intrigued!

I finally found two tranlated books i like and one is Angel's game and the other is shadow of the wind, so I need something else to win : ) you could read it with me under the translation task, asking pretty pretty pretty please : )
LOL
shutter island YUCK, I hated Mystic river, I really miss his series, but read an interview with him and he has pretty much said not oging there every again. I think the theme would work great, this way the RECENT popular books that are hard to get from the library wouldnt be a hinderance for some.
Or could we decide the titles during the fall challenge so the ones who use the library can get on the hold list early>
