message 1: by Hayes (new)

Hayes Don't remember sea creatures in Beowolf... do I have to read it again?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Grendel's mother?

message 3: by Éilís (new)

Éilís wish i could read them all!

message 4: by Emily (new)

Emily O I'm pretty sure The Hunger Games doesn't have any sea creatures. Did I forget something? Why is it on this list?

message 5: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Emily wrote: "I'm pretty sure The Hunger Games doesn't have any sea creatures. Did I forget something? Why is it on this list?"

You're right. Definately no sea creatures in the hunger games.
Maybe someone thought finnick was a sea god? :)
I'm going to mention this on the goodreads librarians group so someone with the power to remove can take care of that.

message 6: by Agustín (new)

Agustín Fest Yeah, Beowulf fought Grendel's mother underwater (where she shows her true form or something like that.)

Beowulf belongs to the list.

message 7: by Creative (new)

Creative A Yeah. There's a few books I noticed on this list that definitely don't have mermaids in them, like HOUSE by Frank E. Peretti, and SKIN by Tedd Dekker. PARANORMALCY by Kierstin White also caught my eye, but not having read it, I don't know if one of the many supernatural creatures in there happens to be a mermaid?

message 8: by Candycloud (new)

Candycloud The hunger games isn't on here anymore!

message 9: by Danielle (new)

Danielle I doesn't have magical sea creatures in it so a librarian probably removed it from the list.
btw I love your name. :)

message 10: by Candycloud (new)

Candycloud What? Who's name? Oh right... who's a librarian?

message 11: by Candycloud (new)

Candycloud Sorry I'm asking to many questions!

message 12: by Danielle (new)

Danielle It's ok. :)
This page probably will do a much better job explaining than me.
http://www.goodreads.com/help/librarian
You only need to read about the first three sections, the rest just explains librarian protocol.
If you have more questions you can ask me or check out the librarians group (there should be a link at the top of the page I linked you to).

message 13: by Candycloud (new)

Candycloud OHH! Whose name did you like?

message 14: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Candycloud wrote: "OHH! Whose name did you like?"

Yours. I makes me think of Cotten Candy. :)

message 15: by Candycloud (new)

Candycloud Oh mine! Cotten Candy?

thanks!

message 16: by Yanet (new)

Yanet PARANORMALCY by Kierstin White did actually have a mermaid, she just wasn't the main character.

message 17: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Amazing list. I want to read them all! 2012 resolution, perhaps :-)

message 18: by Heather (new)

Heather Keola Hayes wrote: "Don't remember sea creatures in Beowolf... do I have to read it again?"

In the pond when he goes to slay grendel's mother.

message 19: by Danielle (last edited Feb 06, 2012 07:44PM) (new)

Danielle Katherine wrote: "Why is Divergent on here?"

Someone thinks it has sea cretures in it. I have been wondering about it too. Have you read it? If so, are there sea creatures in it? If there aren't than I can remove it from this list. Thanks if you can help! :)

message 20: by Laura (new)

Laura I'm taking off House. It in no way has sea creatures in it.

message 21: by drowningmermaid (new)

drowningmermaid Laura wrote: "I'm taking off House. It in no way has sea creatures in it."

Ted Dekker's "Skin" also has no sea creatures in it. At all.

message 22: by Kagama-the Literaturevixen (last edited Mar 27, 2012 06:18AM) (new)

Kagama-the Literaturevixen What about books that feature sea creatures but who arent the main characters?

Carousel Tides
Its a book where one of the supporting characters is a selkie and also another character who is the love interest (maybe, they did form some sort of connection)of the main character. is believed to be a selkie but is really a (view spoiler)

Kagama-the Literaturevixen Laura wrote: "I'm taking off House. It in no way has sea creatures in it."

Is it possible to remove books that someone else added to a list you created? Only I got some like that on a list I made. :/

Would be nice to able to remove them.

You have to be a librarian. If you want you can just give me a link to your list with a list of the books that should be removed and I can take care of it for you. :)

From what I've gathered, I don't think it matters if it is a main character or a supporting character.

Kagama-the Literaturevixen Danielle wrote: "Kagama-the Literaturevixen wrote: "What about books that feature sea creatures but who arent the main characters?

Ok When in doubt I ask. :)

message 27: by Éilís (new)

Éilís Why is Skin, by Ted Dekker on Sea Creatures? I've read it and I absolutely LOVE his work, so I'm 100% sure it does not belong with the sea...

message 28: by drowningmermaid (new)

drowningmermaid I wondered the same thing. I've read that one and I really don't think the sea is even mentioned once, and I know none of the characters were mythical sea creatures. In fact, it has a picture of a desert on the cover.

message 29: by Adrianne (new)

Adrianne De Veyra Why is Divergent by Veronica Roth in here?! I don't remember it having any, I say ANY sea creatures and I'm a hundred percent sure about that. In fact I've read it a week ago, I can't possibly forget Ms. Roth's writings in there though.

☆Meredith (メルたん)♪ Adrianne wrote: "Why is Divergent by Veronica Roth in here?! I don't remember it having any, I say ANY sea creatures and I'm a hundred percent sure about that. In fact I've read it a week ago, I can't possibly forg..."

You're right, there are definitely no sea creatures in Divergent....... :/

Elizabeth(The Book Whisperer) I love love love stories about sea creatures!

It doesn't have to be the main character, definitely! Some of these books have regular, old-fashioned sea monsters that are not really "characters" at all but just, y'know, attack ships or whatever. But thanks for asking!

Danielle, if you or someone else with librarian status wants to remove things like Divergent and Ted Dekker that would be great.

I read Paranormalcy. The main character's best friend was a mermaid

message 36: by D.T. (new)

D.T. Neal "Relict" -- okay, a novella, but still, definite sea creature in it...

drowningmermaid Does Cthulu count?

message 38: by Mir (new)

message 44: by Zakle (new)

Zakle Why in the world is Twilight on here? Last I checked there were no sea creatures in it.

message 45: by Mir (new)

Mir Twilight in on every single list ever. Feel free to remove it if you have librarian powers, but some dumbass fan will put it back on within the week.

message 46: by drowningmermaid (new)

drowningmermaid I believe there was the mention of the possibility of mermaids existing in "Breaking Dawn." Ergo, the logical progression to putting "Twilight" on here.
