8565 Tara and Tammy, I love those two quotes. Tara's made me think and Tammy's made me laugh out loud.

Thanks. I will keep those in mind.

I have heard so many great things about Caleb's Crossing. It is supposed to be really great.
8565 No, you won't get a prize for listing a quote, but you will earn the undying gratitude of your fellow readers. Give us a glimpse of what your Pulitzer winning book is all about. Who knows, you may inspire someone to read it!

P.S. The old rule was to pick a quote from page 46. If that doesn't seem to be a good choice, a quote from anywhere in the book will do!

Which other McMurtry books would you suggest, Lynn?

Tinkers by Paul Harding
The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien
Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry"

I read Lonesome Dove years ago and really enjoyed it, Lynn.
8565 Oh, I know what you mean, Bea. Same here. I am thinking of starting with Caleb's Crossing, but if I get any farther than that on my list above....it will be a small miracle. :)
8565 Bea - I am amazed how FEW Pulitzer's I have read, and how low I have scored them, lol. As well as how few I actually have on my list of books to be read. I will have to see what I want to read for next month. So far, nothing jumps out at me. There are a few that I have always wanted to read and am surprised not to see on the list. :(

Here are a couple that I came up with for my list. I will try to get through at least the first one:

Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Blindness by José Saramago

Vi, I always feel the same way about the Dresden File book, lol. I will have to take a look at the series that you read.
8565 Coralie wrote: "Lynn, I would disagree. True urban fantasy is more like War for the Oaks which you might enjoy more."

Coralee, that one looks really good, very Dresden Files-ish, which is my favorite. Iamgoing to put it on my list of books to check out. :)
8565 LynnB wrote: "I finished Dead Until Dark. I have never found paranormal creatures appealing and this wasn't that great of a read for me. I do like fantasy (ie. Lord of the Rings type), but vampires and the lik..."

Actually, it is Urban Fantasy as it fits a majority of the criteria, set in an urban setting (at leasat as the series progresses) in contemporary time and includes supernatural creatures and/or a magical element. is just one with a cozy mystery/paranormal romance flavor to it. As with a lot of genres, the books in this category are all over the place. Some are definitely more serious than others in subject matter.

I think one thing that turns a lot of people off to Urban Fantasy is that it has become heavily populated with books with a paranormal romance flavor. Keep looking and I'm sure you'll find others that are better suited to you.

Tara, I have always wanted to read this book. I love the quote you posted and it makes me want to bump it up on my list!

Wow, Coralee, that is quite a quote. How are you looking the book so far? It sounds like a pretty deep one.

8565 That would be great if you could, Tara.

8565 I have had that same problem myself, Bea.

8565 Thanks for posting this, Susan. I have noticed a lack of quotes lately, too. Like you, I. Really enjoy the quote thread as it shows a writer's style, which helps me decide about the book.

I am wondering if part of the problem might be that I have not been either setting them up early enough, or if advertising it more would help?

Let me know if you have ideas for changes to make the quote thread better.
8565 It's that time again, time to leave a quote from page 46 of your current Urban Fantasy book. Rumor has it, if you don't the forces of evil will band together and send demons after you. Page 46 is just a guide, but any quote that shows off the book will do.

8565 I just got my copy in the mail today, too. At the same time I received an e-mail from the store saying that the shipment of my book had been delayed. Imagine that. Hope I don't end up with two copies, lol.

Hey Mindy - I think you summed it up perfectly as far as the Jim Butcher books being mystery/suspense with a paranormal twist. I also like Patricia Briggs. Great recommendations.
