I love Margaret George's writing and have Helen of Troy on my list, but her books are always so HUGE.

8565 I was reading the comments from the people in the What Will you read thread, and it seems that we many of us are at a bit of a loss as for as Mythology is concerned. I'm not sure what to list as questions, either. But here is what I have come up with:

1. Do you read Mythology on a regular basis, or is this a stretch for you?

2.When you hear the word mythology, what do you think of? Are fairy tales mythology? What about fables? What is the most popular mythology?

That is all that I could come up with. What about you? If you have any questions that you think it would be fun to discuss, put them here and let's see what everyone thinks.!

8565 Can you believe that I am ahead of the game this month? At least by US standards, lol. At any rate - now that we have all perused the Mythology list, let's review the books we actually end up reading! I'm looking forward to everyone's take on their book.

Also, remember in order to be considered to by the October shelf picker, you must post at least one review in this thread

Happy Reading!

8565 After a quick look at the list, I see a few books that I might choose. I would love to say that I will finally seriously attack The Mists of Avalon as I love everything Arthurian, but it is such a huge book, I doubt I would get it read. I might go for Daughter of Smoke & Bone instead as it has been sitting on my bookshelf for far too long.

In these cases, we usually say use the most popular version, that is the version with the most ratings usually. When you search on the book in GR, it is the book that comes up first at the top of the list.

8565 I was out of town yesterday, but that just gives y'all a head start on your July books. Our shelf this month, thanks to Paige, is Literature. So get reading those books and let us all know what you think of them!

Remember, in order to be chosen as September's shelf picker, you must post at least one review in this thread!

In addition, hop on over to the Discussion Question thread and give us your answers to the questions.

Happy Reading!

8565 This month's topic is literature, which the dictionary defines as "written works, especially those considered of superior or lasting artistic merit." or "books and writings published on a particular subject.".

1. Of the two definitions above, which one most closely represents your interpretation of literature?

2. As you peruse this month's Literature Shelf, what do you think of the books on the list. Do you feel that they are a good representation of literature?

3. What book or books have you read that you feel most deserve to be called "literature" and why?

As always, have fun with the discussion and happy reading!

No worries, LaurLa - As long as I didn't hold you up at all, we're good! Enjoy the book!

Thanks Joyce. Sorry I didn't get the books chosen for her. I couldn't figure out which shelf and didn't see her earlier post.

Hi LaurLa, it's Lyn the mod. Joyce is away for a few days, so I am filling in for her. What shelf do you want me to make your pick's from?

8565 I agree with Bea regarding Thier Eyes Where Watching God. It is a book worth reading.

Love your Hotel California reference

8565 The review shelf for June is up and Jamie has picked Biographical Fiction

Remeber in order to be considered as a future shelf picker, you must post at least one review in the Review thread for the month! Here is this month's Biographical Fiction Review thread.
Jun 02, 2018 05:38PM

8565 Here it is the beginning of June. Time to start reading and reviewing our Biographical Fiction Books

The summer is always really busy for me as both of my boys have birthdays in the summer, as well as a nephew, my dad, and other family things, BUT this is one of my favorite genres, so I am really going to try to read and review at least 1 book.

As always, in order to be considered to pick our shelf for August, you must post at least 1 review in this thread!

In addition, don't forget to check out the

8565 Hope everyone is enjoying and getting into their Biographical Fiction books for the month. Here are a few questions that I thought it would be fun to discuss:

1. When you hear the phrase "biographical fiction" what is your expectation? Where do imaginary characters fit in this type of book, if at all.

2. What, if any, expectations do you have regarding how true to the actual facts a book is if it is designated as Biographical Fiction? More than regular Historical Fiction, the same?

3. What are some of your favorite Biographical Fiction books/authors and why?

As always, I hope you all have fun with this discussion. I love reading everyone's answers and hearing your opinions!

There are some great books on your list. I have Lilac Girls, but have yet to read it. I have read every other book on your list except Doc, and loved them all.

Alison Weir and Michelle Moran are great. And I have been a fan of Stephanie Dray since the beginning. In fact, America's First Daughter is one of the best books that I read last year.
