I LOVE Margaret George. The Memoirs of Cleopatra and The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers are two of my faves. I also have Mary, Called Magdalene and Mary Queen of Scotland and The Isles and have been coveting a copy of The Confessions of Young Nero
8565 This shelf is going to be great for me as I have several books slated to read in the next few months that fit. First off, I will dig into Light on Lucrezia by Jean Plaidy as it is a book for my Moving Mountains and I need to get caught up on that challenge.

As for others, when I looked at the list, the first page was filled with books that I have listed as "to read" in various forms. I think I will also try to read :

Circling the Sun, which I have been longing to read for a while and My Dear Hamilton: A Novel of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton which I have been coveting and just received my copy of.
8565 Jamie Z. is our shelf picker for June 2018 and she has picked a shelf near and dear to my heart: Biograohical Fiction. I am sure that there are numerous books that I would love to read off of the list, I hope you all find the same thing!

8565 I agree, Jamie. I think that the books on the lists are ones that they want to own a copy, or re-read at some point. For me, I have several reasons that would qualify a book as a keeper. Some are favorites of mine, like Little Women or Rebecca. Others I are books that have some sort of nostalgia value, like my vintage copy of Five Little Peppers and How They Grew or Little House on the Prairie. An still others are part of a set which I want to own all of, like the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon or The Accursed Kings Series Books by Maurice Druon. And lastly, there are my history books about royalty like The Six Wives of Henry VIII, Nicholas and Alexandra, and the Wolf Hall series.

Having said all of that, I can see myself putting a book on a "keeper" list even though I do not own it or plan to own it if it is a book that really moved me or that I may want to read again sometime.

As for my list - I could go on and on, as I own a LOT of books, but I think you all will get the idea from my answer above.

8565 Elvenn has picked Keepers as our shelf for the month of May. I hope everyone had a good time perusing the list. I've been thinking about what makes a Keeper, and what books I might put on the list. So - here are the questions I pose for the month:

After looking at the list, what criteria do you think people used to class a book as a Keeper?

What about you? What would make a book a "keeper" to you? What criteria would you use?

Do you have to own a book for it to be a "keeper"?

What is your short list of "keepers"?

As always, I hope you all have fun discussing these questions. :)

Happy reading!

8565 Happy May to all! I hope you have found some wonderful books to read from this month's shelf - Keepers.

It seemed that there were a lot of books on the list that looked interesting. I can't wait to see what you all read. And if you want, include a quote from the book in your review. I love seeing the quotes!

Remember, to be eligible to be the shelf picker for July, you must post a review in this thread!

Happy reading!

You are right about the influences. I can see parts of all of those in the books. And I agree about how the books played out, too. I thought Twilight was the best, followed by Eclipse. New Moon was good, but not great, and I didn't really care for Breaking Dawn. For one thing, I thought it was way too long.

Great list Jamie. Some of my favorites on there. I am a Mark Twain fanatic, and Rebecca is one of my all time faves. To Kill a Mockingbird is timeless, Neverwhere is my favorite Gaiman to date (I wish he would write a sequel)., and my son has read The Hitchiker's Guide so many times his copy fell apart.

8565 I took a cursory look at the list and it seems that I have read a lot of books that people have shelved as Keepers. Unfortunately, all of the books on the first two pages that I have and would probably read are BRICKS. Hmm. I'll keep looking, but for now I will go with:

The Fault in Our Stars
Dragonfly in Amber
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

or I might read Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal as a number of people have recommended it to me.

8565 Elvenn is our shelf picker for the month of May and she has chosen Keepers as the shelf for the month. It looks like there are a lot of interesting books on the list!

Have fun picking out what you are going to read, I can't wait to see everyone's lists.

8565 Well, April is upon us and it is time to start reviewing the books that we are picking from the Wishlist shelf. I hope everyone has found some books that appeal to them.

If you get a chance, also visit the Montly discussion thread and give your two cents worth.

Also, in order to be available to be chosen as the June shelf picker, you must post at least one review in this folder

Have a great reading month!

8565 If you are at all like me, you have a HUGE wishlist of books that you would like to have. I know that mine grows by leaps and bounds sometimes. So here are the discussion questions for the month of April:

1. What type of wishlist do you have? Is if for books you want to own, books you want to read, or a combination?

2. How do the books on your list get there? Recommendations from friends and family, Goodreads reviews, Blogs, or some other way?

3. How do you decide that you want to own a book as opposed to just borrowing it and reading/listening to it?

4. Do books ever make it off of your wishlist, or does you list just keep getting longer and longer (like mine)?

Sorry all. Totally my fault. I have put up the "what will you read" shelf for April and it is Wishlist

There should be a lot for everyone as it is a rather general shelf. Check it out.
