I was wondering the same thing. I don't think we specifically talked about it, but usually we require 120 pages at least to be considered a book. Tien can confirm that.

8565 So - I picked Beloved by Toni Morrison, and I am sorry to say that I could not get into this book, even though I picked it up and tried to read it several times during the month. In fact, I never got past page 20 and am giving up the ghost (pun intended). Maybe I will give it a try again some other time, but for now I am giving up on the book. :(

I love the Elvis Cole books. He is a very sarcastic character, and I love the voice that these books have. They sort of remind me of Dahsell Hammet books.

Do you like cozy mysteries? Or how about Agatha Christie? Her books have murders in them, but they are not focused on and definitely not covered in a grisly way.

8565 This should be easy for me, lol. Mysteries are my second favorite genre and my second most read. Like most of you, my love of mysteries began in high school with Agatha Christie and, believe it or not, Mary Higgins Clark. I have loved mysteries ever since, especially ones that throw an ending that surprises me. My favorite recent mysteries have been the Tracy Crosswhite series by Robert Dugoni, Gone Girl, the Promise Falls books by Linwood Barclay, and anything by Harlan Coben. I am also re-reading all of the Agatha Christies, this year focusing on reading the Miss Marple books in order. For next month, I already have slated:

A Pocket Full of Rye by Agatha Christie
Whispers in the Mist by Lisa Alber
Missing, Presumed by Susie Steiner
The Murders in the Rue Morgue by Edgar Allan Poe

8565 I'm in, too. I am going to read off of my archives shelf as those are books I REALLY need to get through. It is currently at 192, so I need to read 2 books from each category for a total of 10 books. I should be able to do that in 3 months.

Here is my reading list for this challenge:

1. Read 2 books:
Finders Keepers by Stephen King
Little Black Lies by Sharon Bolton
2a. Read the two books with the most ratings
One Plus One by Jojo Moyes 88,553 ratings
The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey 80,220 ratings
2b: Read the two books with the least ratings:
The Jade Butterfly by Jeffrey Round 38 ratings
The Burying Ground: A Thaddeus Lewis Mystery by Janet Kellough 40 ratings
3. Read one of the 5 thickest books
The Barefoot Queen by Ildefonso Falcones 704 pages
Somerset by Leila Meacham 624 pages
4. Read the last or next book in a series
The Kept Woman (Will Trent #8) by Karin Slaughter currently the last book in the series.
End of Watch (Bill Hodges #3) by Stephen King last in the trilogy

Truman Capote is certainly an acquired taste in my opinion. I thought the book was good, but some of his others are much better.

Stupid typos. YES, I meant NOW, lol. It is NOW corrected.....

8565 Well, I am the same as a lot of you in that I read anything and everything in school. In fact, in high school I took a 33 week class where all you did was sit at a desk and read whatever you wanted to. The only requirement was that you had to give the teacher a synopsis of the book when you finished. The class was supposed to be for people who needed credits to graduate and were having trouble with traditional English classes, which wasn't me, but I had already taken all of the other English classes. I read everything from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Catch 22, and The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, to James Joyce, Herman Melville and such. It was a great class.

As for this month's selection, I also have read most of the books on the first few pages, but for this month I will read Beloved which is great because it fits into another challenge I am doing. Not sure what else I will read. I really need to read A Tale of Two Cities. which has been on my TBR forever (and my LOST list), and while I may start it, I guarantee I will not finish this month!

Good job Paola. Now you need to set up a thread for people who land on the square to use to ask for book recommendations. Then just keep your eye on the thread in case anyone posts there. If they do, you recommend books for them.

Once you set up the thread, post a link here so that Tien and I can update the necessary links.
