I've had this one on my shelf for a while, Karin, and really want to read it. The Historical Fiction group that I read with was split on whether they liked it or not.
The author has a new book coming out called Love and Other Consolation Prizes, which I am going to read for review and Songs of Willow Frost, which I read and really liked.

I could certainly see how some people could have abandoned this one (it shelved as that 7 times), but I thought it was good...."
Great review, Sassafrass.

Interesting. I have heard a lot of good things about it, but I have also heard that it is really long, which is why I haven't attempted it yet.

It does sound tiresome....Not sure I would go for it at all.

This is my first Scalzi read, and it's rare that a murder mystery thriller gets four stars from me, even when its also scifi.

Hmm....I might have to take a look at this, but thanks for the warning about the language and violence,

Thanks for the picks, I'll go with Breakfast at Tiffany's, which I was planning to read anyway."
I really enjoyed Breakfast at Tiffany's....hope you do, too.

While you are reading, try to envision what might have led someone else to abandon the book. And if you decide to abandon, it yourself....be sure to let us know that you did and why!
Happy Reading!

She should be back, but if you don't hear from her, let me know and I will pick for you.

I have nothing abandoned on pages 2 or 3, but on page 1 I have:
The Book Thief
Cloud Atlas
Wuthering Heights
My favorite book on the first page is Anna Karenina, which has been shelved as abandoned 323 times. I think 300 of those times by me alone, lol. Only kidding, but I have tried to read that book so many times and I just do not like it.....I have it listed as read because I finally made it most of the way through, but I don't think I ever really finished it.

I loved Jane Eyre, but had a hard time getting through WH. Strangely enough, I have it on my list of unfinished books, but I haven't totally decided to abandon it yet....

I totally agree, D.G. pretty much any book has been abandoned by someone.

I have tried to read The Book Thief a couple of times and never gotten very far. It would definitely go on my "abandoned" shelf. On the other hand, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo I actually finished and was glad I did, but I have never read any of the other books in the series.

I will be interested in how you like it. It is an interesting book.

I thought about reading Robinson Crusoe. Wonder how it is.

Charity's Bookopoly Shelf"
Catherine is on holiday, so I am watching her property for her while she is gone. Here are the three that I chose:
The Notebook
Pippi Longstocking
The Handmaid's Tale

In addition, I am already slated to readIt

Lastly, I might consider The Handmaid's Tale

There are several on the list that I have been wanting to read, including:
The Nightingale

American Gods
The Help
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
A Game of Thrones
and several others, but I probably won't get to any of them. IT is huge, as is The Handmaid's Tale.

Of course the list includes books that others have abandoned that we have not, but I'm going to try to revisit at least one of the books that I have abandoned in the past and take another crack at it!
What about you? What will you read?
And in the interest of discussion, what books on the list do you agree with, and which ones are on the list that you loved?

I'd like to pick the Abandoned shelf. It was picked once before, but it was 5 years ago, so I hope that's OK?
Maybe we can finish some of the books that..."
Thanks Rosemary...Since you are so on the ball I don't need to get in touch with you at all. I just love when things go smoothly.
And Abandoned is fine as long as it hasn't been picked in the last 2 years, so we will go with that. I'm headed over now to set up the "What will you read?" thread.
Don't forget to pick a jpg file for the avatar and send me the link by PM.
Thanks again!
