D.G. , Our shelf picker for the month of July has picked
Movies for the shelf.
Have fun picking your books off of the shelf.
AND --While your picking and perusing, think about these queistions.
Where do you stand on the movie vs. book discussion. Do you tend to prefer the books, or do you like the movies best.
What examples can you think of where the movie was better than the book, if any, and what examples do you have where the book was better than the movie?

thanks DG. I will go set up the thread now!

I have been out of town this weekend and didn't get a chance to get in touch before I left. Send me a PM when you hear and I will get in touch with the and set up the threads.

The letters for July are:
W - J - L - C - O
With this draw, W, L and C will be retired."Things have been just TOO hectic here. I have not had much online time.
Becky wrote: "It is a great book, Becky. I am thinking that I should read the recent followup. "
Lyn - You'll have to let us know if you read the recent follow up. I was just reading about it on Harper Lee's Wi..."I will be sure to do that, Becky

It's time to get immersed in Southern charm and start reading those books set in, about, or with authors from The South. There are a lot of great books on the list from classic to contemporary, and I look forward to hearing about how the ones you picked to read turned out. If you are like me, though, you will probably end up reading a book that you didn't even have on your list, lol.
Anyway - review away!

I'm pretty sure that I finished this, but I need to go back and log all the books, :P
Becky wrote: "This month I'm picking a classic that has been on my TBR shelf for far too long. I plan on reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee."It is a great book, Becky. I am thinking that I should read the recent followup.
D.G. wrote: "Lyn (Readinghearts) wrote: "You know, I have never seen the movie OR read the book. Maybe I should. "
Marlon Brando as Stanley in that white t-shirt is something to see. ;)"I'm looking forward to seeing it!
Ariel wrote: "I'm going to try something new and read a play: A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams."You know, I have never seen the movie OR read the book. Maybe I should.

I keep saying I am going to read
The Help, which I own a copy of, but I liked the movie so much, I am not sure. Alternately, I was just discussing
Safe Haven yesterday, so that is another possibility. Other than that, I have always wanted to read
All the King's Men, so we shall see.
As I usually do, I will probably end up reading a book that I don't even have on the list, lol.
Kristell wrote: "I found Safe Haven on the shelf and I'll be reading that. There were some I had already read and this one was the first on my tbr"I might read that one, too, Kristell. Interestingly, I was just discussing that book and the movie made from it with my friend yesterday.
Marina wrote: "Interestingly enough, I have no Southern books on my owned TBR (although there are several I have already read), but I have 3 on my wishlist, so I will consider reading one of them:

If I remember correctly, the book is set in New York City...but I read it so long ago, I could be wrong. I am surprised, though, that it isn't available on kindle.
Christina wrote: "Thank you for the pick Joyce. June happens to be national Soul Food Month, Iced Tea Month, and Country Cooking Month. So for the month of June I am going to go with the shelf Southern. Seemed appro..."What a fun shelf, Christina. I have set up the thread to plan our books
here.
Enjoy all

Christina is our shelf picker for June and she has chosen the shelf of
Southern books, as June is the month where Iced Tea, Soul Food, and Country Cooking. That certainly makes me think of the South. What books from the list do you find that will help you celebrate the above as well as Southern history and charm.?
Joyce wrote: "I picked Christina to be the new Shelf Picker for the month of June."Congrats Christine! Can't wait to see what shelf you pick for June. :)

This month's shelf is
Comics and Graphic Novels.
I have to admit, this is not a genre that I spend a lot of time on, but the few that I have read have been good. So - while you read and review your choices for the month, ponder these questions:
1. Did you read comics growing up?
2. Are you an avid reader now?
3. What is your favorite among those your have read?
4. What do you consider the crowning jewel of this genre?
Have fun and good reading!

Not sure what I will read. The last time that we had a graphic novel shelf I read the first volume of Neil Gaiman's Sandman series. So maybe this will be a good time to read the second volume. If not, I have always wanted to read
Watchmen. I'll look at the list more tomorrow.
