Also feel free to make whatever threads you want. On the group home page to the right of Discussion Board it says topics: all | new | unread, click new and you can make a thread. It has a drop down menu for which folder you want to put it in. Of course you can always ask questions if need be. :)

801397 Book review thread for all the creature books you've read. Got a review on a creature book (old or new) and want to share it? Post it here!

801397 Looks like I put this in the wrong thread before, sorry

Last month I read the Ice Massacre trilogy by Tiana Warner and absolutely loved it! Sapphic mermaids, war, battles, complex characters. I adored the entire trilogy!

I've read (and enjoyed) My Sweet Audrina and Heaven by V.C. Andrews, and I believe those were by her..I also have Flowers in the Attic though I haven't read it yet. And I still need to continue with the Heaven (Casteel) series. I didn't know she was disabled though.

and yes, it extends to men :) I have Mapping the interior by him and i'm kinda ashamed to say I haven't read it yet. And it's short. >.< And I did know he's native american so I've been wanting to get to it. My TBR looks at me with shame.

Interesting...would one have to read/watch anything before that? I know of the alien movies, still haven't watched them. Well I think I saw 1 or part of 1 but can't remember much about it.

801397 I have fixed the original post now, so we can talk about all the diverse books. :)

If you want to mention characters you can do that too. What are these gems? (I'll fix the original post)

801397 Rebekah Weatherspoon (Queer Black Woman)- I've read Better Off Red which is the first book in an f/f vampires trilogy! I plan to finish the trilogy this month, hopefully.

Kaelan Rhywiol (Queer Autistic and mixed race-i also follow Xie on twitter)- I've read Mothmen by Kaelan and loved it! Moth people shifters.

That's what I got at the moment.

Yea, disability can be harder to find, but sometimes I find out about disabled authors. I know of disabled authors in other genres like contemporary or nonfiction...nothing that would fit here though.

The ones I know of (but haven't read all of them...yet!) so far include:

Poppy Z. Brite (trans man)- Has books with vampires that I know of

Octavia Butler (African American Woman)- Has some books with vampires and aliens that I've heard of

Sarruh Kelsey (Queer - twitter)- I have read one book by her The Beast of Callaire which I might re-read before continuing with the series (also, the first book is FREE-seemingly permanently) and has Gods and Crea (creatures like manticores) with queer and POC characters.

RoAnna Sylver (Queer and Disabled)- Seems I forgot about RoAnna before! I follow them on Twitter and have read a couple of their books. Moon-Bright Tides is a short story with a witch and a mermaid (also f/f). Has vampires and other things as well in other stories.

more to come in a bit...when I continue going through what i've read :)

801397 Since I was making this get off topic I made a thread for Diverse authors here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
:D

801397 Finding diverse authors/characters isn't always easy, so I figured we could have a thread for it! Authors of Color, LGBTQ+ authors, Disabled authors (or characters) etc.....and books about (any type of) creatures. Because good stories can be found everywhere and diverse authors don't always have the same opportunities.

Don't get me wrong, I still love non-diverse authors/stories (I mean I love R L Stine and Stephen King and that's not going to change), but i'd love some more diversity on my shelves too!

So if you know of any diverse authors or books with diverse characters feel free to mention them here! (and mention yourself too if you are one and want to)

801397 Oh there is also K.T. Rose who is a woman of color and writes horror. I have some of her books but haven't read them either...I need to fix this.

Lol it's ok! And I understand, i've been frustrated by that too. I love contemporary and fantasy, and I can easily find (compared to horror) authors of color, lgbt+ or disabled authors in those genres, but I still love my horror. It's what got me interested in reading in the first place. And it's so hard to find diverse authors writing horror!

I have found (but haven't read yet...because I suck) Poppy Z. Brite writes horror and he's a trans man...I have Lost Souls by him that I have yet to read.
