Xie identifies as queer, because xie fits many of the letters of the QUILTBAG/LGBTQQIP2SAA acronyms.

Kaelan holds a B.A in bioanthropology/forensic chemistry and an MST in education/world history. Xie loved University, so holds minors in English, Literary Fiction, Creative Writing, Linguistics, Graphic Design, Folklore, Medieval History, and Modern Dance.

My characters tend to storm fully formed into my head, and then I get to make a story to fit them. Sometimes a character will be more gentle with me and I can craft the story and character together. As for inspiration, everything around me is an inspiration. I carry a notebook or notepad app everywhere and I often take notes. It could be the shape of a stranger's eyes, or the sound of a voice or the way a tree leafs out...inspiration is all around us.(less)

I didn't know better when I loved this book as a young person. I know better now, it's so damned rapey. I won't be finishing this one ever again. As an adult sexual assault survivor it made me massively uncomfortable in so many ways.

Oh gods. I loved this book so so much. Morris expertly interweaves Roman history with a fascinating magical system that I found intriguing and lovely.

The book is well written, though not as descriptive as my usual choices.

“Real isn't how you are made,' said the Skin Horse. 'It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.'

'Does it hurt?' asked the Rabbit.

'Sometimes,' said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. 'When you are Real you don't mind being hurt.'

'Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,' he asked, 'or bit by bit?'

'It doesn't happen all at once,' said the Skin Horse. 'You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand.”
Margery Williams Bianco, The Velveteen Rabbit

Terry Pratchett
“She felt livid. They'd all lost so many powers. It was ridiculous to have to communicate by flapping bits of your skin, and as for the tongue... Yuerkkk ...

As far as she knew, in the whole life of the universe, no Auditor had ever experienced the sensation of yuerkkk. This wretched body was full of opportunities for yuerkkk. She could leave it at any time and yet, and yet... part of her didn't want to. There was this horrible desire, second by second, to hang on.

And she felt hungry. And that also made no sense. The stomach was a bag for digesting food. It wasn't supposed to issue commands. The Auditors could survive quite well by exchanging molecules with their surroundings and making use of any local source of energy. That was a fact.

Try telling that to the stomach. She could feel it. It was sitting there, grumbling. She was being harassed by her internal organs. Why the ... why the. . why had they copied internal organs? Yuerkkk.

It was all too much. She wanted to... she wanted to... express herself by shouting some, some, some terrible words...”
Terry Pratchett, Thief of Time

“In ancient times cats were worshipped as gods; they have not forgotten this.”
