Proud Mom story -
I know some of you saw pictures of Minot, ND flooding this summer. For any who haven't, it was catastrophic and thousands of people lost their homes. To complicate matters, there is a housing boom out in that area, and these people really have no options for other housing.
My children's school is doing a fundraiser to donate to assist with the Minot school's recovery. This is an especially dear project for their school, as it was built to replace an elementary school destroyed by a flood here in 1997.
I have a college girlfriend who is among those whose home was destroyed.
Gabriel came home very passionate about this fundraiser. He had decided in June or so that he NEEDED an iPod Touch. We told him that he would have to work to earn the money for this. He has earned $100 so far towards the goal by doing extra chores at home, for his grandparents and for their neighbors. He no longer cares about the iPod. He wants to donate his whole savings to the fundraiser. He started asking us if he could last week on Wednesday. We questioned him, tempted him with trips to the store, and discussed at length why he wants to give everything and he has not wavered. He said we give him all he needs, and people lost everything. He is determined that the $100 will be much better going to help the people in Minot.
We've emailed his teacher and principal - we are going to let him do it, but one of us will have to come to the school to do it. We can't have him responsible for that much cash.
Just so proud of my boy.

really enjoying it, just hoping that I get it done before it's due back at the library."That was an amazing book - but not a fast read for me. Of course, there are a crazy huge number of pages too. Great book though. Enjoy!

Thanks Steph - I could hug you. :)
We're still waiting for decisions to be made regarding his job. Of course in a week where about $500 in random/unexpected expenses came up, the thought of being one income gets more daunting. Ah well. We will make it work.

Mudbound was a very quick read for me, I hope you enjoy it. The author has a new book coming out this fall that looks interesting as well!

I loved The Stand, but it's been at least 15 years since I read it - maybe even closer to 20...and my own paperback has never returned after lending, so I'd have to put that one on my kindle too - isn't it around 1300 pages?

The stylist we went to for her glasses choosing/fitting was really enthusiastic, and the pair Kasia chose are pretty darling - they will be ready on Monday. :) And hopefully her reading will take off! I wonder if this is why she's had some struggle all along. Poor thing!

I too am a huge King fan. There isn't much I haven't read by him, but I did swear after
(in hardcover) his other books will have to be Kindle reads. I had to read that one in my bed!

Aren't they pretty!?! And the new color one costs the same as I paid for the K2, pretty much...and, um, yeah. I like new tech.

Just saw the new Kindles are out - OK, this one I have some lust over!
My K2 is fine, my K2 is fine...(but maybe my MOM needs it and I need the new one?)

I love you Tam! :) Teehee, I totally couldn't resist. I've got Ryan, Laurie and Kami on board...but I think the Kjelland side has an awful lot to contribute to the world, so I want more babies from our side too! Yeah, I'm mostly being a brat.
How old were you when you got glasses? I'm rather blown away by this one. Gabe WANTED glasses last year, and we took him in to shut him up. Kasia's reading has gotten worse, and then last night we went from a book with regular sized font to another book with HUGE font, but just as difficult content, and POOF, she can read. Made the appointment today, went in this afternoon, will order her glasses tomorrow.

We visited the optometrist today - Kasia needs reading glasses. Hopefully this makes reading more enjoyable for her! She is kind of miserable tonight, as they had to dialate her eyes and her eyes are still totally blown.

I just started. Before bedtime. I may be a moron - this first story is creeping me out already.

I finished
last night - the 2nd half carried the book, I really slogged through it until I got to that part. I did NOT love Mr. March. What a whiney, self-absorbed thing he came of as. Quite a feat, considering what high ideals he was holding himself too. I LOVED Marmee, and really enjoyed the different perspectives the two of them held regarding the same events. I think it's very uncommon for authors to write the opposite genders well, and in this book as well, I think Geraldine Brooks did a much better job narrating the feminine character than she did the male.

Love your priorities, Tam - obviously you hit Goodreads before you were on Facebook. :)
This is the 3rd little boy in 13 months on my paternal cousin side (my maternal cousins haven't had any babies yet...hint hint Tami) so we're all kind of tickled at another boy.

Thank you guys - love my Bee Friends!
and, on to happier news...
I'M GOING TO GET A NEPHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, this week my husband is supposed to submit his self evaluation at work, and along with the eval, he's proposing either they create a new position for him (more of a desk job, no warehouse stuff) or, if they don't want to create that position, that he would instead like to go to part time. We'll see how this goes. He may be told at that point he can just clean out his desk, so it's all a risk, I really hope whatever happens it's going to be the best for him and ultimately our family.

Started and finished
Strategic Movesthis week, which was another quick fun read by Stuart Woods.
I am DETERMINED to finish
The Farmer's Daughter today and never read anything by this author again...I'm into the third novella now, so I'm committed.

Oh wow, Jen! Not good news at all. Sending healing thoughts your way. Don't push yourself too hard, make sure you're all the way ok!!!
