58421 I participated twice in the yearly two week Tackle Your TBR Read-a-thon (has it's own group), several of the monthly 6 to 7 days RaTs (Crazy Challenge Connection & Badass Reading Challenges groups) though I never joined a 24-hour-RaT before.

It's too early for me know which of my many books will be still open in one month or stumble onto my TBR by than :-) Most of my books are for one of my many challenges or depending on my mood *grins*

58421 I'll start with 10 but hope to read more - first I have to look up pretty many words :-)
The Bibliophile Challenge
Duration: April 1, 2018 to June 30, 2018
Completed: 17/15+

A Bibliophile is a lover of books; one that loves to read, admire, and collect books. So if you are a bibliophile, see how many of the following tasks you can complete!

1. Read a book about books or reading. Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis=The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams 3* 4/18
2. Read a book-in-a-book. Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis=The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams 3* 4/18
3. Read a book that is an author's memoir. Lolita lesen in Teheran=Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books by Azar Nafisi 2* 4/10 - it's a memoir of a professor and author of several book (or #1)
4. Read a book about language or linguistics. Unter Fremden by Jutta Profijt 6* 4/9 lit. translation: Among Stragners - the MC's a female refugee from Syria stranded alone in Germany - due to her personal history she learned secretly German as child and is used as translator for most of the Arabic speaking people in her surrounding. She's struggling to undertand the new culture and language (despite rather well knowledge of German) and is comparing both cultures and languages at every point - while investigating the disapearance of the man who saved her life during their escape (moving, very informative and interesting - a great book I learned here way more about the culture and their implications than I was able to grasp form Reading Lolita in Tehran - I listened to shortly after, unfortunatelly not available in English (yet))
5. Read a book that takes place in a library or bookstore. Explicit by Roxy Sloane 6* 5/15 it's set in the publishing world (publishing house, author's home and an award event)
7. Read a book whose main character is a bookworm. Błękitny Zamek=The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery 5* 4/22
9. Read a book that is a retelling of a classic or modern classic. A Night With Mr. Darcy: A Pride and Prejudice Erotic Tale 1* 5/18
10. Read a book that has a palindrome in the title. (view spoiler) 101 Fantastic Gift Basket Ideas by Holiday Fun 0* 6/6 - according to the web page behind the spoiler numbers like 101 are regarded as palindomes as well :-)
11. Read a book that uses an alliteration in the title. Secret Santa by Kathleen Brooks 5* 4/5
12. Read a book that has a full sentence as it's title. Why Does God Allow Suffering? by Greg Laurie 3* 5/31
14. Read a book with a one-word title. Erbarmen=The Keeper of Lost Causes by Jussi Adler-Olsen 3* 5/6
15. Read a book with an oxymoron in the title. Alles ist gut.: Sechzehn sehr kurze Geschichten, in denen gar nichts gut ist by Diego Bernardini 6* 4/20/18 (32) - lit. transl: All's well: Sixteen very short stories where nothing is well
16. Read a book with a homonym or homophone in the title. (view spoiler) Too Hard to Handle by Julie Ann Walker 4* 5/3 too/two
17. Read a book with a homograph in the title. (view spoiler) Der Joker=I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak 6* 4/28 - In German 'Joker' is apart from a playing card a person who has no idea what s/he's doing.
18. Read a book in translation or a book that merges two or more languages, e.g., Spanglish, Pidgin, or Creole. Die Begnadigung=The Broker by John Grisham 4* 4/9 - German tranlslation of the English original
19. Read a work of epistolary fiction or nonfiction. Stim by Kevin Berry 5* 5/13 - diaries are also part of this genre and this book is based on the male MC's diary entries
20. Read a book you can't get as an ebook. Weihnachten mit Nora Roberts by Nora Roberts 3* 5/23/18 (192) lit. translation: Christmas with Nora Roberts - all four single books are available as ebooks, but this particular collection was only published on paper :-)

6. Read a book before you see the movie/watch the tv show. - more than unlikely - the last time I was in the mood to watch DVDs or TV was more than five years ago - so I'm not going to force it
8. Read a book that is mentioned in another book. - since I've seen this task for the very first time two or three years ago I found only a few classics mentioned in other books (or those I'm not interested at all) and during the duration of this challenge I just couldn't force myself to read any of them :-(
13. Read a book with a title that rhymes. => God, Me and Sweet Tea (Me & Tea); Coffee, Tea & Me - the only task I expected to completed but other more interesting books got in the way *grins*

58421 Ilona, looks like we posted at roughtly the same time :-)

I found several gems on your TBR shelf and hope you like at least one of them:
The Husband's Secret, The Old Man and the Sea & The Secret Garden

Ilona wrote: "Agnieszka, I think you would like A Man Called Ove."

Thank you for the recommendation! I'm still not sure I want to read it - I didn't like the author's My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry at all and so I'm a little cautious to try another one though it's the second time in this thread I got it recommended, so I'll see if my library has an audiobook I can listen to while I'm updating my many challenges :-)
Mar 25, 2018 02:21AM

58421 Irfken, I recommend for you:
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie in my oppinion her best book - I've seen you have several of her books on your shelves
Persuasion by Jane Austen my favorite of her books - I've noticed you enjoyed Pride and Prejudice and thought it could be something for you - especially if you're looking for something shorter :-)

Feel free to disregard my recommendations, since Ilona was a little faster than me :-)
Mar 24, 2018 06:12AM

58421 Blagica, In case you wish another recommendation here three books from you TBR I read a loved: Sold to the Sheikh one of the two very beast BDMS books I ever read, Bluegrass State of Mind one of my very favorite series ever - it's light, fun, sexy and a little suspense on the side (plus the best fictional small town ever - I would love to more there *sigh*) & Don't Tell one of my favorite romantic suspense series and debut novel by this author - the weekest in series but still great (really evil perps) - so depending on your mood there should be something for you :-)

l a i n e y - for you I recommend: A Change of Fortune loved it so much and it's pretty fun :-)
Mar 24, 2018 05:55AM

58421 Kristin wrote: "Hi Agnieszka, it seems that we haven't been able to find books that suit you, so I decide to compare our books and make selection based on something you already have on your TBR list.
[...] Two other books from your TBR list that I recommend are The Snow Child, which is a reinterpretation of a Russian folktalke, I believe. It is so lovely and despite the cold setting, will warm your heart...."

I just finished the German (unfortunatelly abridged) audiobook edition of the book and I loved it so much I got the ebook (English original) and hope to re-read the full story soon. Thank you for the recommendation - now I'm looking even more forward to your other recommendations :-)
Mar 24, 2018 05:51AM

58421 Added another one - a recommendation I got (among other) form the Give a Recommendation, Get a Recommendation thread - an exceptionally beautiful book.
Mar 19, 2018 11:58AM

58421 Kadijah Michelle wrote: "to Agnieszka: Then, how about this. I see you like Hemingway. A Farewell to Arms is a bittersweet book."

Thank you! I got several great recommendation from Blagica and Kristin so I'll start there, if I still more recommendations I'll come back again :-)
Mar 19, 2018 08:28AM

58421 Thank you Blagica & Kristin - and you got it both perfectly:

Forever & Always: I have it on my Kindle and will see if I can read it in April :-)
We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves & The Snow Child: My online library has both finally (at least the German audio editions) and I wanted to read both so much - I'm glad this challenge helped to re-check my libraries again - so I'll start with these :-)
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry: I got the paperback on sale and think it's time to read it soon as well :-)
A Man Called Ove: I didn't like My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry so I'm not sure if I'll give it a chance but since my library has an audio we'll see if I'll change my mind
Mar 19, 2018 07:31AM

58421 Please no horror or paranormal recommendations for me :-)

Vanessa wrote: "SarahKat, I think you would really enjoy Slated by Tery Terry. It's a YA with Psychological Science Fiction. I really liked it."

Vanessa, I've seen you like paranormal books and read in German as well so I recommend Kühlfach 4 a very fun mystery with a ghost-mc :-)

Kadijah Michelle wrote: "Recommendation for Kadijah Michelle:
The Blue Castle because you have Anne of Green Gables by the same author on your shelf and in my opinion The Blue Castle is much better even if less known :-) ..."

Thank you unfortunatelly none of my libraries have the book and it's too expensive for me (especially since I don't know this author)
Mar 18, 2018 05:34AM

58421 Debra wrote: "Recommendation for Agnieszka
The Girl Next Door as you like crime type books and this one is a great book."

Thank you for the recommendation Debra, unfortunatelly it won't work, horror is way too heavy for me :-( especially if even some of my horror loving friends struggled with this book :-)

I recommend for you Deadly Messengers by Susan May because you love Stephen King and her books are similiar in style (according to book description you can get this book from the author if you join her reader's club)

Let's see what the next one will recommend - please no horror or paranormal :-)
