35559 Everybody - Don't look!!

@Leslie - (view spoiler)

Chris - 3 stars is like my average read. I've actually become more lenient this year, I think.

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, Vi! I really enjoyed that. Even though I **sniffle** shed a few tears."

You're very welcome, LK! I loved the drawings to go with those too. Teresa, those illustrations are so so good.

35559 Leslie wrote: "So true!! I had to sit and stew for awhile and I still have it open in my nook. I see you gave it 4 stars. What kept it from being a 5 star read for you? Just curious. "

Leslie, I hardly ever give 5 stars - I gave 6 this year that are not re-reads. For a book to be 5 stars, I have to be totally totally consumed by it. Magic Rises made me mad in lot of areas - (view spoiler) Once I finished, I could think and sort of agree with it but not completely. And (view spoiler) Those two just knocked off a star for me.

35559 @Leslie, Diane - I wanted more Kate Daniels once I finished the book. It was hard picking up another book to read. I'm thinking another year for the next book to come out. I hate waiting :(

35559 Good Evening, Team! How was your weekend? Monday's already here in Singapore and we are having the most excellent cloudy rainy sky. It's going to rain any second now! Love this time just before the rain hits.

Has anybody seen The Conjuring? Hubby and I watched it yesterday and it felt like a movie version of Supernatural episode. Scary at times but towards the end sort of petered out.

On the book side, almost done with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling . One more chapter to go. Working on Midnight Tides (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #5) by Steven Erikson & River's End by Nora Roberts

Gwendolyn, great job! It's more fun reading along with everyone than alone.

I'm almost done with SS. An hour or so to go and then it's TWO long days to Movie Night :(

You are not? I thought you were.. I read his The Angel Experiment and that cured of my desire to read more of his.

35559 Chiming in from my mobile so I can place the HP book thingy

I'm still listening to my audiobook - I listen only about an hour or so everyday when I walk and I've got to say Jim Dale narration is awesome. I'll try holding off the movie to Wednesday but its looking to be very hard. I love Harry Potter and the repeated re-reads are not diminishing it's power at all.

35559 Leslie, I didn't know about that until way later. I just couldn't read CoB. With a family of fanatics, I can't believe you didn't realize HP. :O

LOL, Rebecca! It is safe :) Let me know how you found the book.

And I gave in and started Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews . 35% in and it's going strongly. Here's a quote:

“I tried to picture a female version of Jim and got Jim in a dress instead. The image was disturbing.”

35559 Yep which was why I posted too. Later on, it became a principle not to read. Just google Cassandra Clare and plagiarism.

You know how much of a HP geek I am.

35559 City of Bones! Ugh!! I think that was the first ever book I DNF'd and that was way before GR when I just HAD to read the full book. I've never picked up another book of the author again.

35559 Good Morning, Team!! It's FRIDAY today! TGIF!!

I finished up a couple of books today -

Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts & Lion of Ireland by Morgan Llywelyn

LoI was as awesome as Leslie said. Thanks for the rec, Leslie. I'm so glad I read. (And it only took a month with my laziness)

I've started Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling in audio by Jim Dale and Midnight Tides (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #5) by Steven Erikson . I was so glad I started MT - I very much enjoyed going back to that world. I can't wait to read more of Erikson's work.

Me too! I was thinking I should visit that library more but they don't have comfy sofas like the other branches. They have these white chairs (that are really good) but I don't like sitting on them for a long time. Dilemna!

35559 Harry Potter Boxed Set (Harry Potter, #1-6) by J.K. Rowling HP

I wanted to post this yesterday but I had way too many stuff to do on GR.

Back in 2000, when I was in 6th grade, I was still reading Enid Blyton when one of my class boys started teasing me for STILL reading EB. At that time, my school library was the only library around for me and it had a very good collection (only for school students, no adults). After this, I went to the librarian (who was new) and asked him for recommendation. He introduced me to Agatha Christie, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys AND also Harry Potter. At that time, it was already popular and I was leery of trying it. It was a matter of principle, you see.

A year and a half passed. The librarian and I became best friends. I visited the library EVERY day and sometimes even on holidays when it was open. I had finished all Christie, Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys books in the library and I was pestering helping him order more books when he again asked me to try Harry Potter (more to get rid of me, I think). But the books were never available when I tried. After 1 month of trying, I made him reserve the first book for me. That book blew me away and I got the next pretty quickly too. It was hard after that waiting for each book. It's still my most favorite series ever.

Last year, I tried the audio and I could only listen to Stephen Fry's version. Couldn't listen to Jim Dale at all. When I started the audio yesterday, I can only listen to Jim Dale. I'm weird. I'm only about chapter 4 in though.
