Second has light romance elements in it but both are ultimately firmly in the fantasy territory. I haven't read her other fantasy books - though they are in my TBR. My library, surprisingly, has most of them in e-form.

Leslie, I'm a bit behind on my schedule. Had a bad headache yesterday and couldn't read anything. I just need to finish another book and I'll start this tomorrow.

I didn't like Snape the first time around too. Though by book 6/7, after watching Alan Rickman, I started to like him more. And I always cry in book 7. Even now, I can't help indulging in what-ifs.
HPOh, I didn't realize that. I'll have to read till book 4 to completely agree but so far it does seem to hold true.
In HP & Philosopher's Stone, we learn
- Ron is awesome at chess
- Nicholas Flamel (This is like obvious but Ron's chess playing ability is more subtle)
- Snape & Quirrell's confrontation in Forbidden Forest from which they conclude about the Stone.
In HP & Chamber of Secrets:
- Obvious is Riddle's memory of the chamber
- Less obvious is learning the name and that his Special services award was left in a corner
- Also we learn about Myrtle though Harry doesn't know it yet.
- Maybe more subtle is Ginny realizing Harry has the diary but if going by whodunit, then it's clear JKR is establishing Ginny with Harry in this chapter.
HP★g★, I saw the first movie as well. Sorry I was not clear earlier on - I didn't have my morning drink yet.
I saw
movie yesterday. I had a bad headache and this was about the only thing I could do. Anyway, I haven't finished the book yet but I can definitely say the movie and the book have loads of subtle differences - right from the dialogue. For instance, in the start of the term Harry & Ron are caught, Dumbledore doesn't say much. Instead his dialogues are said by McGonagall. (I remember this because I had just listened till the next chapter.) The climax scene had differences between the book and the movie. And IIRC, the major scene that is cut is the Death Day part of Headless Nick. It didn't serve any major plot purpose in the book so it made sense to cut it. On the other hand, the book shows certain scenes very clearly - like Malfoy dropping the diary into Ginny's cauldron. And the dueling scene. Of course, Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart was just amazing. The pixie scene was so giggle worthy.
LK, I completely agree about Jim Dale. He's an amazing narrator. Stephen Fry was too - while doesn't do voices like JD, his inflections are pretty neat.

Good Morning, Team!! Hope everyone had a good weekend. The mods have announced the challenge for September. I have created a thread for us to discuss the challenge and for suggestion/feedback. Please stop by to comment. Thanks!
I think the second book starts somewhere around there. It has Darcy & Ethan. I wanted to kick them both. I actually didn't like any of the characters in the books. Why the heck would you cheat and not tell?

I need to finish a couple of books for a challenge so I think I'll start this tomorrow or wednesday. Is it only the two of us, Leslie?
I'm a little late to the analysis (was out of town) so apart from the ones mentioned, the major discrepancy I found that really galled me was Dumbledore being present for the first Quidditch match where Harry is jinxed. That can't happen at all. And it sorta made Dumbledore look powerless.
As an aside, for people who've watched the movies before, did you like the Dumbledore in the first two films or the Dumbledore later on? (I'll make sure to ask this again in case not all remember)
I haven't updated in a while: recently, I finished
- it was a good Sandra Brown suspense but I need to take a break from her. I can already see the formula from the 3 books I've read.Still reading
, only about a 40% in. Erikson takes his sweet time setting the book up with loads of new characters added every book. But the story has been very interesting so far and this being the only series that has actually made me use my brain completely (or risk misunderstanding)Planning to start
(audio),
&
today or soon.
Leslie wrote: "She writes sexy contemporary romances with humor and a minimum of TSTL characters and angst. They do follow a certain formula - but I find that comforting."LOL, Leslie! I've read her Lucky Harbour series but I need a break between the books for the very same reason. (And I have to be in the mood for the sweetness)
Judy, I'm so glad you liked His Majesty's Dragon. I need to pick that up now. Too many books I want to start NOW. I need clones.
Sonia, beautiful cupcakes. So beautiful that I don't want to eat them.I finished up
. Sandra Brown writes really evil bad guys. Those two that were in the book were so despicable that you'd want to go into the book to kill them. I started another SB -
but I'll be going out for lunch soon.
Leslie wrote: "http://www.ilona-andrews.com/news/pub..."Ooh, thanks for the link, Leslie! Great read. What they said makes sense given that they did create the characters :) I hope the next books comes out real soon.
