September Book Advantage Points Challenge
There are some modifications to the September challenge as the mods have come up with the % reading to complete the challenge.
Here's the scale (as a team):
9.9% = 4 BAP
8.33 to 9.8% = 2 BAP
7 to 8.2 = 1 BAP
Rules: Your Team must have a minimum of one-third (1/3) of your books from the first challenge, A Book a Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay Reading Challenge. You may then choose the rest, in any percent each of the next two NBRC challenges you choose.
Referring to our challenges, choose books that fit:
◈ A Book a Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay Reading Challenge.
◈ One A-Z challenge posted in NBRC. (See #5 below)
◈ Plus one more from any other of our NBRC challenges.
These
Important! Please Read:
1. This challenge is completely optional
2. Based on the mods' %, here's the book breakdown for each member for reading at 9.9%. Remember, this number is just a guideline only. We need to read 127 books as a team (to reach 9.9% of our team goal) so if you can't meet your target, then that is fine.
Breakdown:
Emily - 40 book goal = 3 books
Katie - 40 book goal = 3 books
Diane - 72 book goal = 7 books
*Chris - 100 book goal = 9 books
Catherine - 120 book goal = 11 books
Melissa - 150 book goal = 14 books
Rebecca - 150 book goal = 14 books
Judy - 180 book goal = 17 books
Vi - 213 book goal = 21 books
Leslie - 285 book goal = 28 books
Goal - 1350
Total # of books required - 127
* Possible Goal Increase
3. Moonstone is one of the most active teams so our team goal for September might actually be a challenge. But, we've read 97 books against LJB in two weeks and we've been consistently ahead of LJB by 30 books. (doesn't include BAP). So while 127 might be a challenge, it's certainly doable for us a team.
4. We (the captains) would like to know if you are participating in the September Challenge. For this challenge, the final number of books depends on how many members are participating and we can't use books from non-participating members. We hope you would join the challenge but we would understand if you can't.
5. For the second option, A-Z challenge, here are the following options:
Author Alphabet Reading Challenge
Hero Alphabet Reading Challenge
Heroine Alphabet Reading Challenge
Pet Names Alphabet Reading Challenge A-Z
Title Challenge: Read the Alphabet
Setting Alphabet Reading Challenge
Villains Alphabet Reading Challenge
6. For the third option (Any NBRC challenge), the captains strongly suggest looking at Animal Alphabet Challenge as it's a Spell-It-Out and flexible enough to fit books that don't fit in the first two.
7. We don't have to finish any of the 3 challenges - just fit books that works for the challenge. We also don't have to sign-up for any of the challenge. (You can if you want to).

Please stop by September Challenge Discussion Thread to post your feedback/comments and also to confirm if you are participating in the challenge.

Are you going to read mountain of mourning before the Vor game?"
Oh yes. Planning to start it tomorrow since Sunday's almost gone anyway.
Susan, how's the Kelly Hunter book?

ShoSho, I got it approved in the Page Number thread just in case so you're good to go. Let me know how it is :)

Yeah that was one the major things that really irritated me in the first movie too - they really downplay Neville but I guess they sort of make it up with the last movie.

I cheated and started

Off all the books in the series, I think this book really highlights how much abuse Harry suffered with the Dudleys. I means, it's not really explained or made important in the series as a whole but with Marge's visit, it becomes very obvious. It strikes me anew every single time I read the first few chapters.

I finished the book a couple of days ago. More than the Philosopher's stone, the movie Chamber of Secrets had a lot of difference compared to the book. Some (like the Quidditch scene) were good for cinematic experience but others really bugged me. Also, in the movie, why the heck do people keep flying all over the place when a spell hits them? I certainly don't remember it being like that in the book. I wonder when then the spell/curse will take place.

Gwen wrote:"Mr Weasley fixed the Harry's glasses in book and Hermione in the movie"
This really bugged me - it was really inconsistent. Just earlier Harry had been sent an owl for Dobby doing magic and here Hermoine's doing magic in bright daylight? That's inconsistent film-making.
And I liked the climax scene in the book more than the movie. It wasn't done as well in the movie for that continuity factor.

Her Hurog duology is good - the first is pure fantasy. Second has light romance elements in it but both are ultimately firmly in the fantasy territory. I haven't read her other fantasy books - though they are in my TBR. My library, surprisingly, has most of them in e-form.

One of the things I'm really enjoying/finding different as I reread the series is how differently I feel about Snape. I HATED him the first time I read t..."
I didn't like Snape the first time around too. Though by book 6/7, after watching Alan Rickman, I started to like him more. And I always cry in book 7. Even now, I can't help indulging in what-ifs.

Oh, I didn't realize that. I'll have to read till book 4 to completely agree but so far it does seem to hold true.
In HP & Philosopher's Stone, we learn
- Ron is awesome at chess
- Nicholas Flamel (This is like obvious but Ron's chess playing ability is more subtle)
- Snape & Quirrell's confrontation in Forbidden Forest from which they conclude about the Stone.
In HP & Chamber of Secrets:
- Obvious is Riddle's memory of the chamber
- Less obvious is learning the name and that his Special services award was left in a corner
- Also we learn about Myrtle though Harry doesn't know it yet.
- Maybe more subtle is Ginny realizing Harry has the diary but if going by whodunit, then it's clear JKR is establishing Ginny with Harry in this chapter.

★g★, I saw the first movie as well. Sorry I was not clear earlier on - I didn't have my morning drink yet.
I saw

And IIRC, the major scene that is cut is the Death Day part of Headless Nick. It didn't serve any major plot purpose in the book so it made sense to cut it. On the other hand, the book shows certain scenes very clearly - like Malfoy dropping the diary into Ginny's cauldron. And the dueling scene. Of course, Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart was just amazing. The pixie scene was so giggle worthy.
LK, I completely agree about Jim Dale. He's an amazing narrator. Stephen Fry was too - while doesn't do voices like JD, his inflections are pretty neat.
