35559 I would like to play. I'm not a fast reader, so please put me in for best position for a slower reader. I will be able to check in every day and I'm open to reading any type of book needed for the challenge. I am in the US, eastern time zone.

35559 Carmen, feel better soon!
Shelby, this was my second time to read Lilac Girls. I thought I would skim it, but ended up reading it word for word again. I loved the book. It certainly has it's share of horrific parts and sadness, but the strength of two of the women was inspiring. I read a lot of this genre to learn and to feel empathy, and I wish I could say they get easier to read. They sure don't, but to me these books are important to remind us how important it is to take care of one another on our earth and stand up to racism and other prejudices.

35559 I checked The Alice Network by Kate Quinn on tineye. To me it looks like a powdery blue, but tineye said it's jungle green. What???? That site is color blind sometimes! Anyway, it won't work for turquoise.

I've never timed myself before. Such a great idea! I read about 80-90 pages in an hour in a hardcover book with average font and page size. I'm a bit slower in the beginning of the book when trying to sort out the plot and all the characters. I'm amazed when I see how fast some of the people on GR can finish a book. If it's a good book, I really like to savor it and often go back and reread sentences that have great prose.

35559 Oh my. I just read through the posts on the quidditch game and I have no idea what is going on! I don't mind giving it a go on the next round, but I'm going to need a lot of help to clarify things.

35559 Thanks, Kelli! That's a great idea to time myself. Compared to my friends I read a ton, but I don't know that I'm a fast reader...just spend a good bit of time engaged in it. I'm guessing Keeper because even though I'm retired I'm busier than ever with sports, grandkids and friends!
Thanks for the link too.

35559 I'm going to follow Keli's recommendation and play in the next round of quidditch if that's ok, Carmen and Plethora. I'm not a fast reader and I've never played this before, so please put me where you think I'd be ok.

Keli, (or someone) where is the link to view the first match?

Ha! Oh well, that was an awesome chain Carmen, but we can use my book elsewhere. Hoping to finish it soon. It's been rather lengthy, although pretty good.

35559 Carmen,
So glad you’re loving Still Alice. I get nervous recommending books sometimes, especially if I don’t know a person’s taste. I thought I’d take a chance, since I liked it so much myself. Happy it worked.

So we need either a book that starts with Network, or a book that ends with the word “Still”. Anybody have something that will fit?

35559 Plethora and Carmen,
Maybe you're waiting to use Lilac Girls for something special, but just wanted to draw it to your attention that it hasn't been placed anywhere yet. We get to use it for BOM and a task, I believe someone said. Thanks!

35559 Hi Shelby!
Yes, it is quiet. I've been doing some travel planning and reading my book The Alice Network, which we're going to use as linked books to Still Alice, which someone else is reading.

35559 Got it! So we just needed 7 players for this game split between the 4 teams that make up Ravenclaw. I was thinking we needed 7 players just from our team. Thanks for the help. If there is anything specific I need to be reading, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll just keep reading the ones I've got planned.

35559 Thanks, Keli and Judy! That helps a lot. I guess I'll learn quite a bit about HP by doing this challenge!
May 29, 2018 06:37AM

35559 Glad to be just a back up this time, until I can sort out this game. Are we Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw and how do you know? I thought we would be our team name. This whole Tower Team game has been like a foreign language to me! :)
May 28, 2018 06:29PM

35559 Ok. Please place me on reserve. I’m not a fast reader either, but I do want to support the team b
