Animal Farm (19 new)
Aug 03, 2011 09:58AM

24794 After reading this, I realized that the best summary of it is from its most famous quote-"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." Pretty much sums up the book for me.

24794 I went Borders yesterday and picked up some of those magnetic bookmarks. I have great hopes for these, maybe, I can get out of my terrible habit.

24794 LOL! Apparently, I need to reread the other threads, I will add the Magician's Nephew to August! Thanks for that Vicky!:)

24794 Since July has now ended(unbelievable)and the only book left is The Count. Does anyone want to suggest a title for this month or just have The Count as the lone figure for this month? I don't know what Kerri is going to pick for the children's book, but if there are any suggestions for this month, I'm all for it!

It is amazing how books and movies can go hand in hand. For the most part, movies seem to alter books so much that they end up seeming like two separate entities. However, some movies seem to create an imagery and it becomes hard to separate the two! I'm glad that you enjoy it so much!

I must agree with you, my copy had an introduction about Orwell's reason for writing Animal Farm and it referred to his Ukraninan forward often. I found the fact that he was a British socialist for his entire life interesting, but he was disgusted with Stalin and what the Soviet's had become. Amazing. He happened to be in Spain during the revolution there in the 30's and received a terrible neck wound from Pro-Stalin forces that were, at that time, trying to eradicate pro-Trotsky forces in the area. That was the start of the writing of Animal Farm.

24794 What does everyone think about the revenge motive of Dantes? Was it justified? Considering that the men that he went after were still involved in other awful things, does that justify what happened to them?

HaHa! I thought that I might have to change my mod title to "the brainless one". That is pretty much how I feel, or maybe "the one that feels like a chicken with its head cut off" although that is rather long for a title!

24794 I have to make a confession for this group read, I bailed and only read the Children's Classic version(250 pgs.) I feel really bad, but this summer has just been insane at my house and I could only handle small books during this summer break. I also want to say sorry for the lack of discussions on this and the other group reads. So thanks to everyone for keeping the reading going and also the discussions, again I'm sorry for the dead air from my end.

24794 I found this while I was on Yahoo and just thought that it was really cool! I had a little shelf envy, but my hubby will appreciate knowing that there is someone else on this planet with more books than me! Hope that the link works!

24794 Hello and welcome to Michelle and Naomi! I got busy and way behind, so I hope that you both enjoy the group!

24794 I think that is why this book is easier to read and enjoy than others. It seems like a friend is there explaining everything to you. Cozy and comforting all at the same time.
