I picked mine up as well! Can't wait!

A friend of mine let me borrow this, so I started it today and must say that Uncle Andrew is awfully selfish and uncaring. My goodness, he sent Polly away without a care and tricked Diggory into going after her, what an awful man.

Would anyone be interested in starting the buddy read of
Père Goriot in September? We talked about it earlier in the summer and if anyone is interested would you like to start it then?

Hello everyone! I'm excited that you joined our group and can't wait to have some wonderful discussion with you. I was doing some housecleaning and added some new folders. The children's monthly group read now has its own folder which is under the monthly group read discussion. The buddy reads folder is under that and so is the author discussion folders. If you are interested in posting a new thread, please feel free, just make sure that it is nice and clean! No swearing or vulgarity!
Thanks again and happy reading!

Just as a fun side note, August 30th is Mary Shelley's birthday! She was born in 1797. So happy birthday to Mrs.Shelley!

This is the October group read! Please post discussion comments here.

Hello and welcome to the group Heather. I hope that you enjoy it!
P.S. I have not seen anyone on this site with so many books,WOW!!!

It is wonderful to meet you Francis! Rather a culture shock going from Texas to Louisiana to New York City! Wow! Not to mention the rocking and rolling that you east coasters got on Tuesday! I'm glad that you joined the group and can't wait to discuss the next books with you!

I picked up my copy yesterday from the library and was surprised that it has quite a bit of heft to it. Can't wait to start though!

These are a few of the books that I really enjoyed this year, most are from this group.
1984,
War and Peace,
A Town Like Alice,
Jane Eyre, and
The Scarlet Pimpernel. I also got hooked on the Stephanie Plum series, but was disappointed with the last few books. Whew! I can't wait to add to this list!

This will be a reread for me. I read this in high school and hated it, but have now come to realize that I need to give it another chance, so here it goes!

This is the group read for September.

Now that 2011 is half over, I was wondering if anyone has any nominations for their own best books of 2011 so far?

I enjoy when titles surprise me by their definition. Sometimes when I read a book, I wonder about the title. Books like
Light in August and
A Town Like Alice that explain the title, but it is usually in some obscure passage toward the end of the book. I enjoy that surprise and "aha" moment when this odd title is explained and it makes sense. Does that make any sense?

Hello and welcome to the group, Francis! I hope that you enjoy it!

Hello and welcome to the group, Rory! Nice to meet you and I hope that you enjoy the group!

I decided to go smallest to largest, so I read Abby Cooper and I was pleasantly surprised by it. I really enjoyed it. Next will be California Demon. Yeah!

Hello and welcome to the group Antonio! I hope that you enjoy the group!
