24794 I just finished the series this weekend and must say that the final book was a big letdown.

24794 Vicky, hopefully my copy will be in by next week at the library! Is that ok with you? I put on the bookshelf, that it will start on the 15th, but we can start it at anytime!

Of course! For some reason I got them mixed up! Thanks Laura!

24794 I just read the chapter about Christmas day. Very humorous! Beginning to see where this is going. I'm pretty sure that I got this book confused with another one that I read in high school. The one I was thinking about was the one about evolution and the resulting court case. Can't think of the name right now.

24794 Ok, I found this picture on Pinterest and thought, darn my stairs are carpeted. This is very clever! Might be nice to go with all those shelves!

That will be nice during the winter to remember all the fun, warm places that you went. Nice idea!

24794 I would have to say that I try not to read a book close to when I see the movie, that said sometimes I need to reread the book because the movie made no sense.
I enjoyed most of the Harry Potter movies although some left out major portions of the books it drove me crazy.
I also like The Lord of The Rings Trilogy! Can't think of any other ones right now.

24794 Well, don't hesitate to discuss it here! Just because the month ended does not mean that the discussion has to!

24794 Good point about Polly. All I could find was that she a Diggory were always good friends and came for holidays, but nothing else. Hmmmm..., is she mentioned in other books?

24794 Welcome to you Suzanne! Haha, I love the monster in the closet! Somehow it just keeps getting bigger doesn't it? I hope that you enjoy the group and have fun reading some of those books that get looked over along the way. Maybe, that monster will shrink just a little along the way!:)

24794 I'm beginning to think that I'm going to have to eat crow on this one. I started it last night and I have really enjoyed it so far!
One of my favorite passages so far "As for me, I knew nothing except what I gathered from TIME magazine and reading everything I could lay my hands on at home, but as I inched sluggishly along the treadmill of the Maycomb County school system, I could not help receiving the impression that I was being cheated out of something. Out of what I knew not,yet I did not believe that twelve years of unrelieved boredom was exactly what the state had in mind for me." That Scout is quite a spitfire! I loved the tire rolling incident which just made me laugh!

24794 I just finished this today and must say it seemed almost like two different stories jammed into one. The first had to deal with Diggory and his adventures with the rings and then it jumped into the story of Aslan and the beginnings of Narnia. It did not seem to flow well for me, not sure why, but it seemed rather forced.
The religious tones were pretty obvious, and it seems from this book that Aslan represents God if that is an ok term. I only saw the movies for the other books, but in those Aslan would be a representation to me of Jesus, seems fair to say.

24794 This is the discussion thread for the book Père Goriot. Going to try and start in the middle of September.

24794 Sorry about the confusion Francis! Yes, we are still going to read TKAM in September as well as The Yearling! Somehow it seems like there is more books than time! Earlier in the summer, some of us had talked about doing a buddy read of Balzac so I figured now would be as good a time as any!
Vicky, I have to find a copy(hopefully) my library can get one in! So maybe, the middle of the month? I will keep you posted on my search! Maybe, I should ask for an ereader for my birthday? Hmmmmm.....
