LoveYourShelf... I got an ARC of the Emily Wilde book, and yes it's on NetGalley. I think the pub. date I'd 1/16/24."

I really enjoyed the first book as an audiobook. I'm hoping it will be an audio ARC with Libro for January. I guess I'll find out on 1/1. If not I'll jump over to netgalley and see if its still there.

222868 I finished the Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff. I enjoyed it with some issues, but well written. Overall 4*. It's considered YA but there's on page sex multiple times and a lot of people dying and getting maimed etc. (I mean she's an assassin and a gladiator so it does make sense, and a few of the fight scenes were amazing.)

Currently reading The Christmas Fix by Lucy Score , enjoying it so far. Its fine as a stand alone but you might want to read Mr. Fixer Upper by Lucy Score first as it introduces most of the characters

222868 I hated Dead Romantics, lol. I got halfway through it on audio and just stopped. Main character was just a whiner to me. My review likes are up in the 50s for that one. Funny how the few bad reviews I give on Goodreads end up with the most interaction haha.

222868 So amazon launched another reading site that actually competes with goodreads, even though they own goodreads. Kinda makes me wonder if they'll eventually just get rid of goodreads. Should we start a facebook group as backup, lol?

222868 I finished an older YA by Jay Kristoff Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1) by Jay Kristoff . It felt slow for awhile but the ending really came through and I stayed up late to finish (that's twice now with a Jay Kristoff book). There was a great fight scene that made the ending addictive. Its pretty dark though - a school for teenage assassins. It really bordered on the YA category IMO. There's on page sex for one thing. I mean, I enjoyed the book but if I had a teenager I wouldn't let them read it if that makes sense.

222868 I saw on the JR Ward Facebook page a few days ago that she was doing a limited reprint of the first Black Dagger Brotherhood book Dark Lover in hardcover and she would sign them before sending out. The first 3 books are extremely rare in hardcover and go for hundreds of dollars.

I caved and ordered one this morning.

222868 I stayed up until 1AM to finish Empire of the Damned. I haven't done that in a long time. This is one of those epic reads that hooks you in. No idea what to read now. I need a fluffy romance or something. I can't wait for the next book. But I really hope this is only a trilogy, lol.

222868 I'm reading an ARC of Empire of the Damned (Empire of the Vampire #2) by Jay Kristoff . I had requested on NetGalley not realizing it was a sample and not the full book (about 200 pages, the full book is around 700-800). Then I got a physical ARC in the mail from the publisher. Don't know what it is abut this series. I just love the writing. The story is very dark. But its almost poetic how its written. I'm going to have a book hangover after this and a long time for the next book to come out.

222868 I finished and ARC of The Mystery Guest (Molly the Maid, #2) by Nita Prose awhile back. I liked it! 4*

But I might not order for my store since I am mostly used and the new books I buy I'm very selective. For example I won't order hardcovers - they just cost me too much and there's a B&N down the street. But Mystery Guest is $22 list price for a trade paperback! My opinion is that's just too high. So I'll see if my other stuffsells and I need something else for my new section.

Also finished Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center , also 4*. I've liked every Katherine Center book I've read so far.

I liked Born to Be Badger (Honey Badger Chronicles #5) by Shelly Laurenston too. Couldn't keep the characters straight but it was fun.

Another ARC A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft was just OK for me. The cover is gorgeous but the story fell a bit flat for me. Some parts also did not make sense.

Currently reading Starling House by Alix E. Harrow which I just got as an ARC even though its been released - I assumed to get the reviews up. So far so good.

222868 Some publisher/bookseller drama....

So the sequel to Fourth Wing, Iron Flame comes out 11/7. First edition will have sprayed edges. Publisher encouraged midnight release parties, had a marketing kit, etc. They are also releasing a special edition of Fourth Wing the same day. Independent bookstores have had these books on order with MacMillan for MONTHS. Well, Macmillan oversold them and is cutting bookstore orders. Some stores are not getting any at all, even though they ordered cases months ago and took preorders. But Amazon, Thriftbooks, etc are still taking orders, so seems like their orders were not cut. I'm not involved in this mess. I did not have a MacMillan account at the time everyone was placing orders and even though I do now I didn't even bother. But so many store owners on the facebook groups are so upset because they have to tell their customers the orders have been cut. MacMillan really screwed this one up. At one point reps were telling stores they had a "lottery" drawing to see which stores would get copies. Unbelievable.

The irony here is I sent a big box of books to my oldest sister and in the time it took for the package to arrive 4 states away she passed away suddenly. So that is why I want to send you a box of books ... my way of honoring and remembering
my very independent sister. It is one of those eye opening things that reminds me ....dang we be getting old and geez when did that happen."

Very generous of you to offer to send them to me. So sorry about losing your sister, especially so suddenly.
