Went to a used bookstore Annie's Book swap. You can bring in used books for credit. I brought a ton of books my kids didn't want anymore and couple of paperbacks I had. I got a hardcover version of
for $4. Also got hard covers of
&
, a paperback of
and finally
, which I needed t ocomplete my set because I switched to kindle around the time it originally came out. Even though I read pretty much exclusively on kindle these days, I still like to own favorite books for my shelf. I used $16 in book credit and spent $18 for 3 hardcovers and 2 paperbacks, and had $1.50 credit left over (you can only use credit up %50 of your purchase; the owner has to make money). I still have a box full of more books I can turn in, but I only go every few months because the store is small and I feel like I always see the same books there over again if I go too often. Have to give some time for other stuff to get turned in.
Going to start
next....

" I finished book 3 last summer, but I'm not happy with it. ..."Well that's good to know. When I saw the last book was from 2015 I was worried it was going to be one of those "never finished series".
I think I will still wait to read book 2 for awhile though, until book 3 has a publish date set at least.
Thanks for the info Doug!

So I finished
Reluctant Concubine and I liked it enough to read book 2. But I see these came out a few years ago, with no book 3....
So has anyone read these? Does book 2
Accidental Sorceress end with tons of stuff unresolved? I don't want to waste my time if things are not going to be wrapped up at least partially.
I read some reviews but couldn't tell.....
OK - found this review on Amazon for book 2...
"Great world building and interesting characters, but unfinished series with no word about the final one."
Well, that's disappointing....if i had realized that before I wouldn't of started this series now. Not sure if I should wait to read book 2, which came out in 2015....
Elizabeth wrote: "anyone here read Thirst

FInished
Deadly Intent
, and it was great.
Notsure what's up next...maybe
even though I don't usually do novellas...but I might need a Ward fix....
Also have teed up for near future
.

I got the first 5 books from the library shortly after the 5th one came out. I didn't even know what they were really about, just kept hearing about them everywhere. Well, the 5th one had just come out so the library only had a 2-week borrow for it since it was a new book. So I had to read all 5 in the 2 weeks! When the 1st one ended and there was still so much not resolved I was super glad I didn't have to wait for the next book to come out. Same with those nasty cliff hangers in the later books as well! I had read the highlander books first which had me liking KMM already (favorite highlander romance author ever). So when I started Fever and they were so different I had to adjust big time. I did a highlander re-read about 2 years ago, but I've loaded them back on my kindle so I have them ready the next time I am in the mood, which should be soon.....

ooops! Hot and badgered isn't until next week. I don't know why I thought it was tomorrow....oh well....

Finished
69 Million Things I Hate About You and liked it. It was cute and light.
Currently reading
Deadly Intent. If you like romantic suspense, then I recommend the I-Team series....
Next will be
Hot and Badgered coming out tomorrow.

Actually, I probably just re-read them all again...who am I kidding.... :)

Yeah I'm pretty sure when Jayne showed up in Dani's flat with AOG she referred to him as a prince, and she couldn't look at him without her eyes bleeding and getting all lusty. He had it tamped down for her, but she was mad cuz she knew in order to get the sword he would use that advantage on her.
At some point I'm going to go back and reread the later books. I read the first 5 years ago and then re-read them before the last book that came out along with Iced, etc. So the later books I only read once. I'm sure there's stuff I missed or don't remember.

Yes LOVED the ending! Not a cliffhanger but plenty more that needs to be resolved. I admit I was worried when I started this because these books can be high anxiety reads at times. But this was done masterfully. I loved that Shazam was a Hunter watching over her all this time. I loved the creation story of the Hunters and how they had to want to change. And that Earth was a Hunter at one time. I loved that she got to transform back to human (even though I guessed this would happen). And the note from Dancer....sniff
I also liked that the big bad god in this one was dispatched before the end of the book. I don't like when things drag through too many books. I know there are other conflicts coming from both Fae and old gods, but that's fine with me.
Dani's evolution was done masterfully. I remember the gripes from the earlier books from some people. KMM is just so amazing at how she can tie things together. I find even if I don't like what happens in some of her books (people I like dying, etc.), I just love the writing so much the books are still amazing. KMM makes me feel emotions for fictional characters, and you really can't get any better than that.
Question - my memory acting up again....
So Deagus was killed during the fight with the Hag and Ryodan brought him back as one of the Nine (making them 10), and I remember he was in the basement at Chester's for awhile, but why is he living at Christian's castle on the dark side cottage and Chloe lived on the light side cottage? Christian said Chloe was not allowed on the dark side but they were holding hands near the cottage on the light side. So obviously Deagus can cross over, so why are they separate (and living there)?
And I remember Chrisitian and, to a lesser extent, Sean becoming Unseelie princes, but I don't remember too much of the Death, Famine thing.... So Sean ate unseelie at some point too then, right? Was it when he was running the black market? And why are the becoming Death and Pestilence?
And why aren't they dead from the Song of Making? Since they were Unseelie? And Jayne too. I remember now that the music flowed through Christian and he didn't die, but why not? Because there is good in him still? Or he wasn't completely unseelie or had not been created originally as unseelie?

Finished High Voltage. I thought it was wonderful. One of my favorites of this series. My home WiFi is out right now but when it comes back, anyone else read it yet and want to chat spoilers? Of course I have questions....

I wanted a break from "serious" books before I started on
High VoltageSo I read
Louisiana Longshot, and it was pretty funny. I probably would've enjoyed it more if I wasn't so tired and stressed with the blizzard we were getting at the time.... But I will definitely continue with the series at some point. I believe this is still free if anyone else wants to grab it.
Started High Voltage. So far so good...

I'll have to reread and ..."Vinity, and I am not trying to rationalize or minimize or make excuses for bad behavior. At this time, I just don't think it was intended that way. I'll give the benefit of the doubt for now and see if things get cleared up in later books. Great conversation with you! Its great to see different POVs.

Found the response from Patti's assistant:
(view spoiler)["Here is the response another GR member received from Briggs’ assistant: [ Fans have been asking Patty for more background about Bran for years and years; she keeps telling them that if they knew as much about Bran as she does, they might not admire him as much. She finally decided to give them just a taste of what she's talking about - it's something she's always known about Bran, but it never came out from Mercy's point of view because she literally has no clue whatsoever that Bran views her as anything other than a daughter. Mercy will never feel awkward around Bran, because he will never act on his feelings or let her know. It also explains why Leah has showed so much animosity towards Mercy; she is jealous and threatened, but again, Mercy has no clue. Hopefully that will remain the case! I suspect this information will be important in future books, too - Patty never does anything by accident; she plants hints and foreshadows here and there in both series, and then brings it all together in later books. She is a sneaky one!
Patty wanted to share a little bit more with her readers about the dynamics of Bran and Leah's marriage - she also told me she hoped to make me like Leah, lol! I told her that was never going to happen, but I definitely understand Leah a lot more, and I don't hater her anymore. Darn it. Another character I can't hate anymore. Patty had better not do that to Christy; she's still the most despicable character in the Mercyverse, lol!
So try not to hate Bran. He's being as noble as he can; he has feelings but doesn't act on them. He is a very, very old wolf, so we have to cut him a little slack here and there, as long as he doesn't step over the line! "
Yes It does seem that any of this negativity could've been avoided by better editing to make sure lines were in fact NOT crossed, even if just in people's interpretations of events. And making it clear on what happened and when. For me, based on the conversation between Charles & Anna, NO I do not believe Bran is a pedophile. Is it clear when he started having these feelings and I missed it? It was referenced that was why Leah didn't like Mercy but I do not believe Bran started having feelings when she was a child. This seems to be the sticking point and where an editor should've made it clear (if that is the case, but I'm confused on the whole thing at this point). For me, I feel like Mercy's antics with him may have been the cause for him to develop feelings over time and when she became a young woman and he realized he had feelings he sent her away. Leah could've just been jealous that Bran gave Mercy any attention at all, whether based on romance or not in the beginning. That is my interpretation. But better editing could've avoided this issue. I'll have to reread and see the timing of things. I really didn't take it that way at all. There was a scathing review that included a response from someone on Patti's team. I'll see if I can find the response. It did mention something about "some people might not like Bran as much" or something like that.
I still don't get why no one got mad about Samuel though, seems like a double standard. In fact I remember when I first read these books thinking "wow he's so much older than her...." (hide spoiler)]

Some Burn Bright spoiler talk because some of the reviews I saw I don't agree with.... (not comments here but other reviews I have seen). I do respect all other opinions but a few of these reviews were really out there (IMO) and I am wondering if its just me and I am missing something.....
(view spoiler)[One person actually called Bran a pedophile and started ranting about #MeToo. I do not agree with this assessment. My opinion is that Bran did NOT have inappropriate feelings for Mercy as a child. Yes she grew up in the pack and yes when she was 16 she was sent away. I could see maybe Bran developing feelings around this time since she is now a young woman who looks like a young woman. So that could've been another reason why he sent her away and not just because of Samuel. Yes she was still 16 so yes even that is young based on today's standards, but these are FICTIONAL WEREWOLVES who have lived hundreds of years and back in the day girls married at like 12. No one (meaning readers) got mad at Samuel for being interested in Mercy, and Samuel was an "older man". And Bran looks like a 20 year old himself if I recall.
I did not see the Mercy/Bran interactions when she was a child with Bran as a "child predator" already having feelings for Mercy like some of these reviewers stated. I saw them as Mercy giving him crap and growing up in a pack that she didn't feel like she belonged in. And, if these feelings of Bran's had something to do with Bran sending her away then he did the right thing. Again, fictional werewolf trying to keep control of his monster and knows he can never have anyone meaningful in terms of love in his life whether Leah was in the picture or not.
Am I happy to learn that Bran likes Mercy as other than a daughter? Not particularly. But knowing he has these feelings I still have no problem with him looking out for her and do not think less of his character. He has made no attempt to get in between her and Adam or even to let Mercy know how he feels. If anything I feel worse for him, knowing he will always be lonely and never have a mate he can love.
So that's my rant....and I may wrong completely...but that's they way I see things......thanks for listening.... :) (hide spoiler)]

HBW, I didn’t get the fireplug reference either so I touched the word on my kindle to see if a definition would come up. It did! Fireplug = fire hydrant. I’m probably an idiot and should’ve known that. So a shorter, roundish person with unruly hair. But, these were only negative observations that we mostly read about. From herself with her low self esteem and the bad guys. I can’t recall if someone else more neutral described her, maybe Grimshaw when they first met?
