I saw that "author" whining on facebook how she is the victim because now people are bullying her blah blah blah. ( I only saw the post because someone I am friends with had made a comment)

Someone posted the actual letter she sent to another author demanding she rename her book. It was ridiculous and obnoxious. There's a petition going around to not let this "author" get away with what she's doing.

222868 Yes much more made sense now that I've gotten farther in the story. It was mentioned that Good people seldom have a Bad child though and a blood test was mentioned at one point. Gwen repeatedly says that its not someone's Good or Bad-ness that defines them but their actions.

222868 Still working on The Kingpin of Camelot The Kingpin of Camelot (A Kinda Fairytale, #3) by Cassandra Gannon . Hilarious! Just what I needed. I love the gryphon guy, Trystan.

BTW, I think I figured out that the only thing that determines Good or Bad at birth is a blood test....

Regarding Kingpin of Camelot, why is the daughter considered Bad? That is what I am having trouble with. Who are the Good People and who are the Bad and what determines that. I see Midas is Bad because he is a criminal, but why is the daughter Bad?

222868 Finished the Blood of Eden series. This is YA - she is 17, gets turned into a vampire. This series was very depressing. I don't mind some dark in my books but usually there is some balance where some good things happened too. Not so much here. Tons of people die. And the main characters in her group were kinda lame. None of them was a badass, except for one, and he was an anti-hero (killed innocent people in first book). But he was the best character of all of them. There was a lot of angst, a lot of baring of fangs, a lot of repetitive fight scenes, a lot of walking into the bad guy's trap even though they would say "hey this is probably a trap", and the bad guy kept getting away and coming back to cause more horrific carnage.

So it probably sounds like I hated this series, but I really didn't. It just didn't wow me either. First book I really liked then they went down hill from there, but overall I would give this series a lower 3* if that was possible. But if you look at the reviews I am obviously in the minority.

First book is The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1) by Julie Kagawa (but there are 2 prequel novellas that show what happened 60 years prior when the virus spread. I only read one of them, but it was pretty good).

Now I need something FUNNY to read!!!!

222868 Doug, I know people who have been put in “Facebook jail” for ridiculous reasons. The other day I got this weird notification saying a review I posted about a business was removed and that I had violated some BS rule. It wouldn’t let me back on Facebook until I checked the “acknowledge” box, so that got me thinking about separating from FB. I assume the business got mad about the bad review and reported it to FB (even though it was 100% true) and a FB bot sent an automated message to me, but knowing people who have had accounts suspended for non-reasons and no recourse to fix the problem made me realize how FB operates and I’d hate to lose my Goodreads account if there were issues with my FB account.

Thanks Sharon! Of course I did not know my password so I had to reset that too. But I was just able to login with email/PW only. With all the facebook issues people have been having (accounts being suspended for no reason, etc.) I didn't want to have any problems logging in goodreads. I can live without facebook, but would be upset if I couldn't get to goodreads. :)

When I joined goodreads years ago, I used the the "login with facebook" feature. Anyone know if I can separate the accounts now? I would rather not be dependent on Facebook to get to goodreads.

222868 Regarding the Nine. I cold be wrong but Barrons' son was one of the Nine and he finally died, so that made eight. Now Daegeus makes Nine again?

Sounds like a math puzzle,,,hahaha

Yes Jada/Dani seemed completely "healed" in this book. I think that was why I didn't mind the character as much. But it did seem like there was no Jada left at all.

I believe it's affect

Affect is a verb, effect is a noun.

222868 I'm about 80% through book 2 The Eternity Cure The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden, #2) by Julie Kagawa . Still liking it but its pretty dark so I already know I need a lighter read after I finish this series. Basically tons of people die, the world is in ruins, and believe it or not things actually just got worse. It'll be interesting to see how things play out. I just hope its not something stupid that saves the day, but yet, something good better happen or I'm going to be disappointed.

Vanessa, you've inspired me to give Virgin River another try. I did read the first book, but that was it. It didn't wow me but I don't read a ton of contemporary anyway. Next time I need a PNR/UF break I'm going to read book 2. I don't remember much of anything from book 1 though....

222868 Finished The Immortal Rules The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1) by Julie Kagawa , which has been on my TBR for YEARS. It was pretty darn good. 4*

This is YA-ish- the h is 17. Looking forward to the next books. Glad I am reading after they are all out.

I did try the Iron Fey series by this author awhile back and did not care for it. I found the h whiny and she cried in like every chapter, so that series was a DNF for me. But this one is so far so good.

My daughter is definitely going to live at school unless she gets accepted at one of the more expensive local private ones she is applying to (For example MA College of Pharmacy is over 50k a year) and if she wants that branded "name" of a school then she might have to commute to be able to afford it. But any of the state schools she would live at. She is adventurous, but she also has anxiety issues at times. I agree and I think it would help her with these issues, and she is looking forward to living away.

At our major flagship state university, in-state tuition is around $11,000/year (not including living expenses or books). Out-of-state tuition or tuition from foreign students is $35,000/year so the rumor has been that they have been accepting more and more out-of-state and foreign students for that huge differential in tuition. "

Have also heard of our state schools doing the same.....

Boston is VERY expensive to live in the city. And if you go to state school it is harder to get any aid since you are already getting the in-state tuition price. UMASS Boston is only like $7k a year for in-state resident price, but when you add the room and board of staying in dorm it goes up another 15k for a quad unit which is the cheapest. The state school my daughter liked is about 30 minutes outside the city in metrowest area. My husband works for the town the school is in so would be very convenient to bring her to school and pick her up on Fridays if she wants to come home for the weekend. They could even do lunch during the week. For her to live there would come out to about the same as UMASS Boston (tuition was a little higher but the R&B was cheaper). The school we saw in Albany is like 43k+ a year plus a 3-hour drive or train ride. So that's a huge difference just to get the "experience" of going out of state for school. But who knows, maybe she will get merit scholarship of some kind.

222868 I would be perfectly happy with my daughter staying home and commuting to school. Would drop down a year to like $9k for the state school. But she wants the "full experience" of living at school, and I understand that. (Personally, I never lived at school). We have had many talks though about not going into huge loan debt for school, and she gets it. So we'll just see how this next year plays out, she's a junior now.
