222868 Just finished Phoenix Unbound Phoenix Unbound (Fallen Empire, #1) by Grace Draven . I ended up rounding up to 5*. The first half was good, but the second half was awesome and events at the end made me cry. There were a couple of those scenes that you just know will stay with you long after reading the book. Looking forward to continuing with this series. I just hope its not too long We are still waiting for the next Wraith Kings book.....

Lulu, I did finish Lionheart Lionheart (Moonshadow, #3) by Thea Harrison and I did like it. 4*
Kathryn was actually a pretty good h. I didn't even know who she was when I started the book. Me and my lousy memory. I really liked Oberon. And Robin/puck touched on my heart strings. I liked the ending.

222868 I'm working on Lionheart Lionheart (Moonshadow, #3) by Thea Harrison . I went in blind without reading the book blurb. Its pretty good. And I remember just enough from the previous books to get along fine.

There is a Dragos scene in the beginning.... :)

222868 I finished Consumed Consumed (Firefighters, #1) by J.R. Ward

Here's my review:

3 1/2* rounded up

This book started out very strong. I started late evening just thinking I would read a chapter or two and ended up staying up until 2AM. The beginning was a huge hook and quite shocking. Then it did peter out a bit and drag in the middle to 2/3 mark. I found during most of the book I didn't really like Anne that much. She was a bit of a jerk to her family and others. But, and this is the important thing for me for any flawed character, she learned and changed; evolved in a way. The last fourth or so was pretty good and had a bit of surprise. Part of the investigation is wrapped up but there is still a mystery to solve (more than one actually) and more bad guys, so the story arc will continue I assume throughout series. All in all, a good start and I will be reading on.

222868 Red Sister/Grey Sister sound really good, but I will also wait until 3rd book comes out. Looks like next April, so not to long of a wait.

About 2/3 through Consumed. Will let you guys know how it was when I am done.

Anything good come out today? I can't keep track anymore....

222868 I finished A Muddle of Magic last night. I enjoyed it, maybe more than the first book, but probably because I was used to the world and distinctive speech of many of the characters. I'm lookng forward to the next book.

Then I made the mistake of starting Consumed Consumed (Firefighters, #1) by J.R. Ward . I thought I could just read the first chapter or so and it would just kinda set things up. I ended up staying up until 2AM. Anyone else reading this? That beginning! Just shocking. I had to make myself put it down. Not sure the rest is going to go, but that beginning hooked me, to say the least.

222868 My daughter is in AP literature class this year (senior). They get to pick one book as a class to read for fun. All suggestions get put in the list and then they vote. My daughter asked for suggestions from me because she is not a reader (yes even though she is in AP lit).

My suggestions were:
Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop
The Rook (The Checquy Files, #1) by Daniel O'Malley
The Rosie Project (Don Tillman, #1) by Graeme Simsion
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I tried think of ones that I loved that weren't too romance-y/smexy, and that would appeal to 17 year olds. I did think of Ilona Andrews but that first Kate Daniels book is kinda hard to get into, and the other series like Inn Keeper, Mad Rogan, etc all continue on in plot. I thought Written in Red was ok because most of the issues in that book are resolved at the end.

If they pick one of these I told my daughter I would do a buddy read with her.....

222868 Ann Bishop announced on facebook that after the next Others book, her 2020 book will be a return to the Black Jewels series. Fans of that series are thrilled.

I have tried to start the first Black Jewels book 3 times. I get like 100 pages in and I get confused. Maybe I will try one more times. The prologue always hooks me, then I get lost as the story continues....

222868 I read Protected by the Lawman Protected by the Lawman (Lawmen of Wyoming, #1) by Rhonda Lee Carver . It was meh. I almost DNFed but skimmed instead. Gave it 2*. Just not much of a story and some things just weren't plausible. I won't be continuing with the series.

Then I started A Muddle of Magic (Fledgling Magic #2) by Alexandra Rushe cuz I got from net galley and I have to review it or I'll feel bad. But it's pretty good so far. Took me a bit to get re-acclimated to the world but now its going good. Doug is right that the female character is a bit foolish at times, but as he said its pretty justified.

Then I might try Phoenix Unbound (Fallen Empire, #1) by Grace Draven . I like Grace's writing very much. But whatever happened to her other series that she didn't finish? Wraith Kings?

Looking forward to Consumed (Firefighters, #1) by J.R. Ward coming out soon.....

222868 Very off topic.....

The company I work for is hiring tons of people. Technology sales/Inside sales. Global company with a household name. Locations are MA and TX. They fly people in for interviews in MA. No sales or technology experience required - we train. The interview process is very selective though. (They turned down my nephew!)

Usually the hiring profile is someone within 2 years after graduating, but they will also hire an older candidate if the right fit (we have one guy here now who used to be a college football coach for a big name school).

If anyone knows a recent college grad and is interested in more info PM me.

Honestly its probably kinda silly but I am thrilled. I don't write a ton of reviews - just books I feel very strongly about. Kinda cool that I know the author and her team saw it. I might have the buy the paperback version to keep on my shelf. :)

222868 So I just opened up Clash of Storms and in the front section are past reviews. My review of Heart of Fire is the first one listed. They did remove mention of my comparison to Dragon Bound (which I totally understand) and added “....” before the second sentence. Otherwise word for word my opening sentences. I shall heretofore be known as Amazon Reviewer of Heart of Fire.

222868 Finished Dragon’s Claw Dragon’s Claw (Dorina Basarab #4.5) by Karen Chance and it was great. I don't usually do novellas but this was a long one. Typical DOry storey with lots of fun and action.
Another one will be coming out from Pritkin's POV on 12/1. Looking forward to that one too! Siren's Song Siren's Song (Dorina Basarab #4.6) by Karen Chance .

Next up Clash of Storms (Legends of the Storm, #3) by Bec McMaster

222868 ooops just remembered I got an ARC of A Muddle of Magic A Muddle of Magic (Fledgling Magic #2) by Alexandra Rushe a while ago so I should probably read that next. I hardly get anything on netgalley so I don't want the author annoyed with me.....

222868 I'm on the last Miss Fortune book Reel of Fortune Reel of Fortune (Miss Fortune Mystery #12) by Jana Deleon . I've read this series pretty much straight through (took a break for Kate Daniels). I've given each of them a solid 3*. Each one had some great/funny parts but usually reserve 4 - 5* for books that really amaze me. But these have definitely been fun.

Not sure what I will read next. It's going to take something very different to get Sinful out of my head....
