222868 You would think that working from home for a month and not going much of anywhere I'd be crushing my reading goal. Nope...now I'm 6 books behind schedule.

Finished in the last couple of weeks:
The Sinner (Black Dagger Brotherhood #19) by J.R. Ward - 4*
Badger to the Bone (Honey Badger Chronicles, #3) by Shelly Laurenston - 4*
A Bad Day for Sunshine (Sunshine Vicram, #1) by Darynda Jones - 4*

Working on Crush the King (Crown of Shards, #3) by Jennifer Estep . Its ok, but Evie is just too perfect. She has an answer for everything and always seems to come out on top. That and the writing is feeling repetitive again. Looking at 3* on this one, but I am interested to see how it ends.

Yes! Demetra posted it in the facebook group and I got it for free because I had $1 amazon credit from a no rush shipping order from a while back.

222868 Finished Smoke Bitten. Loved it.

up next :
The Sinner
Murder in Deep Regret
Crush the King

I also finished the Book of the Ancestor trilogy by Mark Lawrence (first book Red Sister) I gave each book a 3.5* rounded up to 4*. I did like the series but had a few nitpicks here and there, but I would recommend the series.

I have broken up with Cassandra Clare. She was an all time favorite author, until that last dumpster fire of a book. I'm still angry about it, that's how much I hated it.

222868 I started Red Sister Red Sister (Book of the Ancestor, #1) by Mark Lawrence . Was a little hard to get into at first with the writing style and I was a bit confused, but now I'm enjoying it much better. Though I am still a little confused at times :)

For the current year challenge, I get the blurb and rating, but if I go to previous year the page is displayed differently (number of pages read, longest book, shortest book, etc.) I do not get the rating and blurb on this screen - just title and author.

222868 I took my daughter to the library on Saturday to get her passport application processed. I hadn't been there in years, since I usually just borrow ebooks instead of going to he actual library anymore. They have a section of donated/used books for sale. I decided to check it out.

Now, this is the weird part. Although I was browsing, I was specifically looking for an older book by Laini Taylor. Blackbringer (Faeries of Dreamdark, #1) by Laini Taylor . I got to the very last shelf, way down the bottom, the second to last book. And guess what? It was Blackbringer. I thought that was really weird. And when I opened it up I found that it was a signed copy. I paid $1 for it.

I had issues at the beginning, but then just went with it. Sex was OTT for me as well, but the story, I felt, was good. I did have to remind myself they were barbarians after all. hahaha

The author always comes up with some very moving lines as well that stay with me after reading. For me these were "a warrior makes use of what she has" ( a great scene towards the end that had me in tears), and a "queen does not cry where others can see her".

But there are some great fights and vengeance at the end if you decide to finish.

Party of the problem is it takes forever for stuff to happen, like conversations. hahaha. There is a lot of internal monologue because it is from Cassie's POV and she is constantly adding details along the way, so simple conversations can take several pages. But I don't mind. I like the way things are carefully tied together. Without those details, it wouldn't work. And its fun to see her figure stuff out. And the action is good when it happens, but I love the humor. And the side characters. We are on book 10 but only like 5 months have passed in the story or something like that. One book I think took up like 3 days of her life.

Yes. If you do not start at book 1 you will have no clue who everyone is or what's going on. This is book 10, but only several months have passed in the story since book one. There is also the Dorina Basarab series which is also great, and some of those books run parallel to events in the Cassie books and there are character crossovers. Book 1 is Touch the Dark. Some books were better than others but I have never thought of giving up this series (even with long delays between some books). One of my favorites.

222868 Oh and I finikshed A Heart of Blood and Ashes (A Gathering of Dragons, #1) by Milla Vane . Rounded up to 5* because any issues with the book were my problem (comparing to the Kraken King).

222868 I've been working on A Heart of Blood and Ashes A Heart of Blood and Ashes (A Gathering of Dragons, #1) by Milla Vane . I like it a lot. It is a dark barbarian/fantasy romance. The is Meljean Brook's pen name. The only issue I have with it is since I have read The Kraken King (Iron Seas, #4) by Meljean Brook so many times (ahem 5 times, the last time was last August), that I can't help but see similarities between the H in this book and Ariq from Kraken King and honestly I like Ariq better. The author also used the same theme of the h "building walls" against her emotions. Still I am enjoying the book very much and I really look forward to some vengeance. And the sequel comes out this summer so no waiting for a year to see what happens.

222868 I finished Sin & Chocolate Sin & Chocolate (Demigod of San Francisco, #1) by K.F. Breene which is on KU. It was pretty good. World building could've been better and there are some inconsistencies i.e. how can the son of a demigod also be a demigod. I had always thought a demigod was the son of a god anda mortal. Anyway, I rounded up to 4* and will continue with the series. I thought it was going to be a different couple in each book but that is not the case and I am fine with that. The h reminds me of Charley Davidson a bit but still has her own "feel" if you know what I mean.

222868 Finished Kill the Queen (Crown of Shards, #1) by Jennifer Estep and Protect the Prince (Crown of Shards, #2) by Jennifer Estep . I liked book 1 better. Book 2 felt repetitive and Evie was starting to bug me a bit. I did like the ending though. Looking forward to book 3 coming out in March Crush the King (Crown of Shards, #3) by Jennifer Estep

I like the show a lot, though I agree I don't love Claire all the time. But I really can't stand Brianna. The actress is horrible and comes across as B too much. She's not even that tall!

But there are some scenes that are very moving. I was crying when Jamie had to leave his son behind with Lord John (who I love!) and the song A Hard Rain is Gonna Fall was playing in the background.

222868 Outlander is good. Yes there are some difficult scenes/story lines. But the books are very long so they do not make up the majority of the story being told. They are more of an adventure and you find yourself trying to figure stuff out with the time travel. Its also fun to see them interact with historical people (George Washington, etc.) It does move slow though and the books are very long. I read the first one and stopped because it was too slow for me. Then watched season 1 on Starz and decided I wanted to know what happened. Then I plowed through the rest of them.
