There WILL be 2 more Soulwood books minimum (that is from Faith Hunter) and hopefully more after that, this one did give me a scare because the ending seemed so final

Ain't that the truth, no way she should have won for that

I don't know about the other genres but I have been on forums where the horror category gets a lot of Steven King vs Dean Koontz fans who will vote for them regardless if they read the book or not

I don't know why I bother with the Goodreads Awards since they just frustrate me every year and I feel like they are fixed a bit from publishers

This looks like it might be really good since Piers Anthony wrote them but it almost seems depressing from the start since the HEA of the original Aladdin story looks to have a horrible ending to start this trilogy (read the synopsis) but since it is FREE on KU and I have a couple of open slots I might have to fill it with this trilogy. (only 99 cents if you are not on KU)
The Aladdin Trilogy

Someone has already told me they got about 20% into
Whiskey Beach and skipped to the end to see what happened LOL, can't pick a winner every time :)
As for
Northern Lights I read the synopsis after you posted and thought "That sounds really familiar" and finally found out why, I own this :)

In my never ending quest to collect books I may never read but look very "shiny" I saw this today for $1.99 and had to have it

I just finished the Thea Harrison story and it was excellent but unlike the Grace Draven story that left you in a good place, Thea's story was not a bad ending but it left you wanting more of these people's lives and so while an excellent story it was not as fulfilling for me because she makes you fall in love with these people and you want more :) Just starting the Elizabeth Hunter story and will let you know what I think. It is set in her Irin world so not much world building required. Football WILL impact my reading schedule today LOL

Just read this on Thea Harrison's page, she wrote this in October but I had not heard that she renamed the series a bit
"After careful consideration, I’ve decided to change the series title for Moonshadow. Instead of being Elder Races Book 10, it will be Moonshadow Book 1, with the next stories being Spellbinder (Moonshadow Book 2) and Lionheart (Moonshadow Book 3).
The stories are still set in the Elder Races world and there will be some crossover, but while the original Elder Races stories dealt with the demesnes in the US, the Moonshadow trilogy will be dealing with the demesnes in the UK. It is similar to how Patricia Briggs structures her Alpha and Omega series versus her Mercy Thompson series—same world, but with a different focus."

Steam is a gaming environment that you start up to play your game (there are 2 but I forget the other services name) it allows you to keep your stuff in 1 place also , not really sure what it does but you need it to play the cutting edge games and many more on a PC

Well I got a chance to read the story Grace Draven has in the anthology
Amid the Winter Snow called "In The Darkest Midnight" and it was exceptional :)

To agree with LAB - In today's world of high graphics and such, even basic things really require 8 Gig of RAM to not impact performance heavily but too many laptop "deals" do indeed come with 4 Gig of RAM which makes the performance lag and the machine not able to really do as good a job as it could (also 2nd that note about avoiding AMD chips, there IS a reason why Intel is #1 and it is not just better advertising)

Well I finished the latest from MaryJanice Davidson
Sirena: An Undersesa Folk tale and was terribly underwhelmed :( I really wish she could find that groove again that she had at the beginning.

LOL, as you can see there are myriad opinions on this, I think if you boiled it all down you would find that most decent laptops would do anything you wanted to do BUT for a gaming computer you are usually going to have to go to a PC since cutting edge hardware and memory can be changed out much cheaper than a new computer (not 100% of the time but a general comment). I wanted to play Witcher 3 that Ilona Andrews was talking about so much back in 2016 and it cost me a few hundred dollars for memory upgrade and video card upgrade (it was worth it, damn game was like living in a book, nothing like it before or since ) and my computer was already pretty hefty so if he is playing lower level stuff like Facebook type game and such not a big deal BUT if he is going to play the news games coming out it will require some serious money in many cases but once you get a really good basic PC you can upgrade hardware every few years at a lesser cost. Strictly "pay me now or pay me later" :) and yes a desktop is usually better and cheaper in the long run for gaming IMHO. As a disclaimer, I used to be a big gamer but had not gotten into it in many years but the Witcher series brought me back but it also spoiled me so much that nothing else was even close to the quality and depth of story. Hell, I did not even read a book for a month or more (and I was using a few cheats and it was still frekin awesome) LOL

I can only say I am a PC advocate for the ability have access to more things and for reasons not clear to me, several writers I talk to are leaving Apple, something has changed in the last year or 2 and most are going to the new Surface laptops.
I use my desktop Dell for 80+% of my usage and use a Dell laptop or a Samsung S8 or a Samsung Android tablet for the rest. Apple was always to restrictive for me but my son still loves them for his personal machine and he spends his days writing software for the Windows world :)

Sadly most steampunk for me falls into 2 categories, very good or mediocre , read a lot of great steampunk but still hold
The Kraken King out as the best example of the genre even though it was as more of a romance in a steampunk setting

Really because that was such an amazing story, but since that was written almost 3 years ago I don't see her returning sadly.

@Sharon - 2 exceptional standalone novels in 2 hugely different genres if you are in a reading slump :)

Been gone for about 48 hours almost and to answer a couple of things:
You don't HAVE to read Jane Yellowrock to enjoy Soulwood series but it really helps a lot with background and certain characters.
Got my new monitor and feel like I am staring into the sun after almost a week of my old one dying (actually it must have been dying slowly for a long time in comparison)
Reading the last of the "Disgraceful Dukes" trilogy and enjoying it but too early, the previous 2 were excellent but too early to say yet about
Blame It on the Duke
