This was an ARC for a book that will release on the 22nd (7 days) and I have gotten so used to series it was great to have an amazing stand alone that was not part of a series. The author J.C. McKenzie has written several like this, its like she writes one and either sales or something makes her write a series I think since although she has only 1 series she writes, almost all of her stand alone novels could be turned into a series with ease but this was a great read. Highly recommend, started out as dystopian and evolved into a bit of fantasy and a touch of the Andre Norton "Witch World" for me.
The Night House

@LAB - "People NEVER having a cell phone when they needed one because they continually leave them behind (multiple characters do this)" - this would cause me to abandon the series but then again I never go anywhere without my phone but that is because :
A: 4 kids and a wife
B: All my best music is on my phone LOL

Sometimes I go back and read my own posts and wonder if I was tired when I wrote them :) This is one of those examples:
"Anyone who love epic fantasy should get this series, it was epic :)" LOL I guess it must have been epic :) I am usually a bit better at descriptive phrases

I must be the only one that did not know that Julie Anne Long had returned to historical fiction once again hopefully as good as her PennyRoyal Green series
Lady Derring Takes a Lover

Well at long last I was able to get time to read
Guardian Queen and finish the trilogy, I was also able to remember barely enough to keep me from having to go back and read the first 2 books over again LOL
Anyone who love epic fantasy should get this series, it was epic :)

from NetGalley? I requested it again, after the little teaser. There are 11 reviews up alr..."Last time I reviewed the teaser and got the book later, this time I did not and still have not gotten anything.
Sharon wrote: " am doing the same with the Mark Lawrence "Sister" books..."There are like a train, starts slow and just keeps on picking up speed until the last book so much is happening you can't put it down and you have to keep up with things happening in 2-3 places at the same time. I truly hated to see it end, I could read about those characters forever I think.
Sharon wrote: "I just finished this series think someone on here recommended and I absolutely fell in love with it. The last one was amazing couldn't put it down sighhhhh wish there was more,
[bookcover:Reluctant..."I loved the first 2 books but I fear I might have to go back and scan through them again, bought the 3rd book and just waiting for a good time to start. Great series, hope I love the ending as much as those first 2

re:
Wild Country This book had more of a close up look at all the characters where the last book (which I loved) was more of a look from a distance in many cases (for lack of a better way to describe it) and in this book you found they were not supermen

Just finished
Trailblazer and it was one of the better things I have read recently if you like SF/space opera with a bit of romance. Almost as good as her
Dark Horse

Finished
Lady Notorious and while I liked it, the feeling was mixed. Ever had one of those books that you liked the story and the characters but did not really have a hard time putting it down and coming back to it later?
This plot had a good "whodunnit" theme to add to the mutual attraction of the main couple who were having a hard time being professional even when it seemed ludicrous but there were some humorous moments to be enjoyed. Still not that addicting motivation the true 5 Star novels have ...
That is where this book was with me, the story, the main couple, the plot were all good, but there was that "something" that makes books addicting and you wonder what is going to happen next anytime you are not reading it. That is what was missing but I did love the story and the ending so at the end of the day I have a book I enjoyed but was easy to put down and pick it back up later so 4 Stars it is.
Vanessa wrote: "Doug have you read the other books in the Royal Rewards series? Are they any good? I see that they are free on the Romance package on Audible."This is the first book in the series that I have read and seem to require no previous knowledge but too early to tell if the book is going to be really good.

Tornadoes were about 100+ miles south of me. Reading another historical romance for review today that I am about a week late on :)
Lady Notorious

I enjoyed
Lachlan a lot but the books became progressively less entertaining as I went on with the series until I just dropped it
Kristi (foxtail_too) wrote: "Douglas wrote: "I have been looking at Marrying Winterborne and wondered if I am missing anything if I bought it and not Cold-Hearted Rake since people seemed to not..."Well my BOOK OCD makes it hard for me to skip the first book anyway so I guess I will get them in order LOL Thanks

I have been looking at
Marrying Winterborne and wondered if I am missing anything if I bought it and not
Cold-Hearted Rake since people seemed to not care for that first book as much other except than dedicated fans? Anyone read both?

@Victoria - IF you like historicals 2 of the best I have read recently were:
The Governess Game A Bachelor Establishment (stand alone, no series)

FYI: Madfall is no longer for sale anyplace that I know of
