Good luck with that, Douglas. I want to read the Julie Ann Long novella as well but I might have to refresh with the epilogue of her final novel in the Pennyroyal Green series first.
I just finished an earlier Deanna Raybourn, she who is writing the Veronica Speedwell novels. It is her interpretation of a gothic novel, all spooky Transylvania castle and brooding Count. I really like her writing style and can see hints of how she developed the Speedwell novels. I really must get to Lady Julia Grey series.

Can't give any advice on the newer kindles because I'm still on my original trusty Kindle Keyboard. It's slower these days (like it's owner) but I still love it. It must be going on six years old... I wonder if kindle years are like dog years.. that would make it 42 years old, LOL.

Congratulations to your daughter LAB. Must be a relief that it is going smoothly. Luckily living in a major city both my older children went to University here and lived at home, but my daughter did have to travel 2 hours both ways and she also worked a lot through her degree. Good luck.
I remembered most of the back story in Shades of Wicked and JF does a good job subtly reminding the reader of previous events and relationships without info overload. I've been enjoying as I read but no where as much as I enjoyed those first Cat and Bones books. The down side of reading so much PNR over the years I guess.

Vanessa, so glad the surgery went well and hope all goes well with the recuperation. Keeping husbands who are used to being busy still is tricky. Good Luck. .
I'm a quarter of a way through Shades of Wicked and am enjoying it although I am puzzled why she wrote it from Veritas' point of view? When Ian is really the star of the show Although thinking back all Jeaniene Frost's books are written from the heroine's POV, I just haven't noticed it before I guess. I am literally LOL from some of the dialogue so far

I just read the first Cassie Palmer. It suffered a bit from "First Book Syndrome" there was a lot of information to process, world building to get through and it also switches between past and present. It definitely had potential and some interesting characters. (Kit Marlowe and the brother of Dracula. ) I didn't write it off although I haven't rushed to read on yet. Rated it a 3.5.
I did like it better than the first October Daye novel though. That had so many POV's and tooing and froing that it gave me whiplash! And a host of unlikeable characters to boot. Although quite a few people have said it does settle down to be an enjoyable series.

Just finished Bec McMaster's
and really enjoyed it. I think it is her best series since the first London Steampunk series although I am also enjoying the spin off that one also, Company of Rogues. She seems to be really in the groove of writing at the moment.
Next up Shades of Wicked. I'll be trying to keep my expectations in line, always difficult when you've been waiting for a storyline..

I've got both To Catch a Rogue and Shades of Wicked to read up next. Lulu, I love the London Steampunk world as well and glad that she is continuing on with it. Bec McMaster has a baby due in March so maybe over the next few years her writing will slow down a little. She has been prolific over the last two years.
Vanessa, how is your husband doing? Hope all went well.

Hope all will be well, Vanessa.
I finished
and enjoyed it, luckily the next one is out this week I think.
. I do like Bec McMaster's world in this series and how she describes it. She's very good at that without going over the top with the hyperbole and metaphors a problem I've been having lately with Nalini Singh's writing.

This arrived in the mail today, excited to read it. One word IAN...

Kristi... AMAZING. Think of all the books you can buy with your winnings, LOL. Congratulations!
I was never an Elizabeth Hunter fan... but recently I made comment on another author's Facebook page. She was putting out free instalments of novella length and I made what I thought was an innocent comment about how I would love a full length novel. She took it as a complaint and couldn't believe I would complain about free stuff, I was completely taken aback because I just meant I loved her writing so much and would love a fully length published novel (that I would gladly pay for) . I apologised straight away but it's made me think about social media quite a lot. I think because after chatting with you guys for over 8 years in such a lovely, friendly way and we are all pretty much on the same wavelength and respectful of differences of opinion, I assumed it would be the same. I'm a bit more mindful now of how comments can be interpreted.

I read the first three Black Jewels books but just not my thing. I much prefer The Others.

Julie Anne Long is writing another historical series to be published next year.

I finished
. Enjoyed it but it probably won't be a story I'll remember into the future. 3.5 stars.

Back from my lightning trip - seven plane flights in two weeks was really pushing it and the weather wasn't really co-operating but we managed to drive up to the North Eastern Kingdom in Vermont and saw glorious Fall cover. And I was in awe of the monuments in Washington DC. Had a great time.. but just as I had got used to the time difference I've got to do it all again..
I'm waiting for Lionheart to download and I'll be reading it this week.

One day in Boston, one day in Washington DC then home. Really enjoying our stay.

Hi from Salem, MA. Checked out all the witchy stuff ( very cheesy) but the House of Seven Gables was cool. No reading, all touring. I never got to PEI because of really bad weather so no Anne if Green Gables . ☹️☹️☹️ but lots of 🍂🍁🍁🍁 so all good.

Vanessa, I just finished Cross Breed. It was never going to live up to all the hype but thought it was quite good. And I was glad I was right about who was her mate it all came together well.
And it seems that this wasn’t the last we’ll see of The Breeds either!

Yes, Lulu we go via LA on the way there. Only got two weeks so a lot to cram in, from Montreal hoping to see lots of falling leaves as well. On the way back we've got one day in Washington DC then connect through DFW with Qantas for the 18 hr return trip. It's a bucket list trip for sure.
just downloaded to my kindle. Woo Hoo. I'm going to try and save it for my long, long flight on Friday, heading to Eastern Canada to see Anne of Green Gables on PEI and falling leaves.

Congratulations Her Most Eminent Reviewer, LAB. Well done. Bec McMaster seems to be a lovely young woman and she has just announced on her Facebook Readers Page that she is expecting her first baby in March.
