193869 For me... it was Black Science. Long time listeners of the show know some/most of the background on this, but nonetheless...

I usually enjoy Rick Remender's writing and Matteo Scalera on art is SO good, but I feel I was swindled with this book. A dimension jumping story with a "Lost In Space" vibe where Scalera's art can show us UNLIMITED possibilities of different worlds and be cool and in your face with science? COUNT ME IN. But what we got was... a family drama? I dropped it after 6 issues.

I've told myself that one day I will go back and read this book. Maybe Mike from back then was wrong. I'm willing to try again... but I feel so burned...

193869 This is kind of a weird question, but I wanted to throw it out there:

What comic has been your biggest letdown? What comic had you super hyped to read, but wasn't as great as you had hoped?

(We may do a show episode on this in the future...)

193869 Dove into The Weatherman #1 yesterday and it was a very ride. Very much a book you don't realize is done until you get to the last page and yell "NO WAY. THAT CAN'T BE IT."

I recommend it.

193869 I nominate ダンジョン飯 1 Dungeon Meshi 1 (Delicious in Dungeon volume 1) by Ryoko Kui.

Ever wondered if/how you could make fantasy monsters into food as you traverse through a dungeon? THIS IS THE MANGA FOR YOU!

193869 What trade should we read together for our July Comic Book of the Month? Nominate your pick here!

This month's theme is "Manga."

Titles nominated this month must be a Manga book. Your pick must be in English and can be a book published in Japan (Viz, Kodansha, etc.) or in The United States (Yen Press, Vertical, Dark Horse, etc.). If you have any questions or concerns, please send a message to mods Kate or Mike, who are happy to help. You can find the complete 2018 theme calendar here .

Remember:
- Nominated titles must be TPB comics or original graphic novels.
- Only the first volume of a series may be nominated, unless the group has already read the previous volume(s) as a book of the month. To see what we've read, check out our group's bookshelf .
- Nominated titles cannot have the same writer as the previous month's BotM winner. This month, that's Noelle Stevenson.
- Nominated titles must fit the month's theme. To see past and upcoming themes, check out the 2018 theme calendar .
- Only one nomination per person.
- You can "second" a nomination in place of nominating a different book, but this will count as your nomination for the month. Seconded books will receive an additional chance of being selected in the randomization process.
- If a title you nominate wins BotM, please refrain from nominating another title for one month to give others a chance.

Nomination & Voting Schedule:
To better accommodate our increasing number of members, the nomination and voting schedule is as follows every month:

16th: Nomination forum opens
23rd: Nomination forum closes; 5 nominations are selected at random; Voting opens
30th: Voting closes

More details on our updated nomination and voting procedures can be found here .

Welcome!

First off: You don't have to apologize for your comic tastes. THEY ARE FANTASTIC.

The fact that you read Giant Days INSTANTLY means you are in the "very cool" group of comic readers. No Joke. Giant Days is one of our absolute favorite books on the show.

But if you're looking for a suggestion, I definitely recommend Snotgirl, Vol. 1: Green Hair Don't Care. It's a really fun book and might align with some of your tastes from the stuff you listed :D

If you want to stray from super hero books, his The Sheriff of Babylon, Volume 1: Bang. Bang. Bang. is supposed to be GREAT (I haven't read it, but a quick search for it will show raving reviews).

193869 This is something we talk about on the show every so often, but I'm curious to know what you all consider a good comic book reading environment?

Reading outside? On your couch? Inside during a rainstorm? Laying on your bear-skin rug in front of a fire with a healthy glass of red wine?

Mine is definitely on a couch, with some light instrumental music playing pretty much any time during the day or night. :D
