This was such a powerful book. ♛primadonna♛, it definitely still haunts me too. I'm glad we chose this as a group rea because, as some other people said, I've been wanting to read it but didn't feel I could tackle it on my own. Coleson Whitehead writes so beautifully and handles such horrible topics which such sensitivity. I liked how he contrasted the adult and teen experiences, tho the time shift between them took getting used to. I started to get suspicious that the grown Elwood was actually Turner honoring his dead friend before Elwood actually died because he acted more like Turner, and I didn't see how Elwood could possibly survive. I'm so glad Turner tried to rescue Elwood, and at least he died sort of free, but his death, all the death, is still so tragic.
The level of abuse in that school was mind-numbing.
