189072 Happy Halloween everyone! We have until November first to post all of our books don’t we? Because I am trying to finish something before the end of the night… And I think I finished at least one book since the last time I updated.

189072 I enjoyed rereading this—I only remembered someone’s boots got stolen, and I had vague memories of who the villain was but no memory of the motive or plot, so most everything surprised me all over again. I sort of enjoy how arrogant Holmes is, tho sometimes his treatment of Watson bothers me. And the female characters are such 19th century stereotypes, although partly that’s Watson—he’s so impressed initially by physical appearance and then sees things later that he thinks relates to their personalities which is just him being judgmental—I’m thinking of his reaction to the divorce-seeking woman.

I think April made some good points about how easy is can be for an expert with a fast mind to come off wrong to other people. And I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Conan Doyle based Holmes on someone he knew from medical school.

I love the Sherlock series too and it was interesting to compare this episode with the original story.

189072 Hey everyone, I’m excited to be a part of Team Sam! He’s always been one of my favorite hobbits and Sean Astin did a perfect job being Sam in the movies.

I’m in the US—currently live in smalltown Iowa, with ties to Seattle. My mom lives here but most of my immediate family is in Seattle and Portland (tho I’ve got some family in Chicago, Ohio, Texas, Arizona, Wisconsin and Mexico)

Happy 40th birthday Saar! And thanks for being our prefect. 😊

I’m a single parent with a grown son—he’s in Seattle.
I just turned 50 last month, which sounds older than I feel, but I’m enjoying entering my crone years.

I’ve participated in this challenge for a good long while—probably 5 or 6 years—and it’s always fun.

189072 Updated post 97

December total: 31 points, possibly 31.5, if reading the graphic novel adaptation of Kindred would also get an extra .5 as a group read. BUT the group read was the novel, so this seems sketchy.

If easy point getters are only short stories under 50 pages, I read 8 out of the 10 allowed. If they're also poetry and graphic novels, I may have gone over the 10 limit. I'm not sure. My ability to count is waning.

Happy New Years to everyone observing the Gregorian calendar and celebrating right now!
