189072 Yes, Thanks so much for all your hard work Cynthia! I’ve been doing last minute panic reading too 😉

189072 I really enjoyed rereading this book—last read it when I was about 10. It’s clever, fun, and has lots of fascinating travel descriptions, without too much of the racism, colonialism and misogyny of the time. In the descriptions of other cultures, there was this strange mixture of respect, condescension and stereotype.

I agree, Fogg feels like he’s on the spectrum somewhere.

Has anyone seen the new miniseries with David Tennent yet?

189072 Hope everyone is having a happy holiday season! My son and his girlfriend were visiting (both college students), so I haven’t managed to update my post but I have been reading. LeVar Burton reads a silly yet thoughtful near future sci-fi story about mall Santas on his LeVar Burton reads podcast, if anyone is looking for a quick seasonal story.

I actually managed to read Around the World in time with the group this month. It was a lot of fun to reread. I’m excited there’s a miniseries now with David Tennent as Phileas Fog.

189072 I don’t remember if I introduced myself properly when we started out. My name is Megan. I live in the US—Iowa. I’m a single mom with a son almost done with college (it’s his senior year; he’s studying digital art and animation). I studied literature and art in college and work as a freelance writer. I love autumn, it’s one of my favorite seasons, and I’m excited to be a part of this group. I’ve been participating in this challenge for a few years and it’s always fun (previously Ravenclaw and Earth bender)

I’m a mood reader with focus issues, so I bounce between a lot of books.

189072 Hey everyone,
I don’t have access to my computer today so I’m posting my November reads here. I’ll add these to my main post tomorrow and figure out the points (I might manage to finish a short story this evening too 🤞🏻)

189072 Maria, glad you got a new phone!

My mom and I drove up to the Chicago area to spend the weekend with her sister. We had dinner on Saturday because her son’s girlfriend was on call Thursday and Friday. We had turkey, mashed potatoes, cheesy broccoli (my cousin and his girlfriend’s signature dish), salad, cranberry sauce, rolls and lots of pie. My aunt always makes pumpkin pie with a cheesecake layer. I made plain pumpkin pie and pecan pie before we drove up. My oven is getting problematic so my first pecan pie was basically charcoal. 😖 The second one was only mildly singed tho—still edible 🎉 It was a nice family visit.

Usually I make roasted veggies and quinoa with cilantro chutney for me (and other non-turkey eaters), but I was recovering from a migraine, so I wasn’t up to much and just had salad. It all smelled great tho.
