179584 "You sound like Margaret Thatcher."

"Oh, God," I say. "That's awful."

I can relate:)

I hope we're not sweeping hate here, that's not a solution in the long term.

Okay, now I need to check her out! (What else would I do right now? Definitely not sleep:) ) Will be a little bit of work to watch most of her videos, but what I should do else anyways:)

SAME!
179584 Sharing my thoughts on OURSharedShelf with you:
OurSharedShelf is somewhat of a home for me. I go here on a daily basis, I love to see new posts pop up, I love to discuss here, or help a new member or two out. Here, my sex, my gender, they are not a big deal. We are here to discuss, not to spread hate towards each other. Via OSS I have made friends, that I have told parts of myself I maybe have told 1 or 2 persons before. I have learned so much, and I know it's the right thing to be a feminist. Here, I feel understood! All of you folks make this small corner of the world feel big.

OMG, I'm on the verge of sobbing writing this.

What a thoughtful and nailing post, Jonathan, thanks for that.

You've read ALL seven autobiographies of her? Wow, I again feel so unknowing, it's kinda embarassing. I need to read SO MUCH!

Having read Mom&Me&Mom, I think she in the end knew what she wanted and was a woman who had a very special relationship with her mother.

I'm totally with you here. In Austria you're allowed to make your driver's license with 16, vote with 16 and the rest is with 18.
Marriage is a rather lasting decision, I'm twenty and wouldn't dare to think about such an important question.

Uh, yeah, your comment sums it up perfectly:) We live in 2017, and not 1717 (although some think that's still the case, not only with this topic, but others as well!) I get it that in Austria, the minimum age to marry is 16, with the consent of the parents, and 18 without the parents' consent.
People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. That indeed, that's just gross! And the US is very guilty of that:(

Pam, you bring a very important point to discussion here - gender and representation. While I'm totally on your side that it is important and good that we finally have a woman lead, we must not forget non-binary persons and persons who identify as somewhere in the middle of the spectrum.
I'm on your side with the rest tho, I think segregation is not something that we only further want to itinerate. And then who is a woman and who is not? That's a really loaded topic.

And there's no problem with having different representations of what a feminist is. The important thing is that we all pull on one rope to get our societies more feminist.

Ross wrote: "talk about off topic, if part of being fourth wave feminist is inclusiveness and to expand the debate. I would say Emma is doing great as a feminist and so is OSS :)"

She has catapulted herself into history books already with launching the HeforShe campaign:) She's doing fine!

The three statues represent three different attitudes toward society, at least that's what crossed my mind now. There are people like Trump who are represented by the bull, then there are activists, even as young as little girls, who are represented by the little fearless girl and then there are the people who don't want to interact with the society too much at all, and they figuratively piss at the other two. Wow, what did my mind make up in that short time now?

I go with James here, really. Positive discrimination is still discrimination, even if it's just for a short amount of time. It sends the wrong message, in my opinion, because we need to come together and not further segregate ourselves from each other. That's not how it works. And I think that is segregation here. If you really want to have an all-woman auditorium, they can still book that in a small cinema for a screening. Because the ultimate question here is: Who is a woman? Are trans women then excluded because for some, they are still not seen as women? Or intersex people, what's with them? I'm really worried over that.
