thoughts while reading:Go Yoren for taking down as many men as he did before he died!
It's kind of impressive this band of orphans have been this successful thus far.
"Dead men could not her her, but whoever had killed them could." Except for dead men up North.... lol
You can tell Arya is kind of sick of Lommy when he asks what to do if the wolves come and she just tells him "Yield."
thoughts while reading:I do have to say that is kind of smart of Cersei to change Sansa's servants. Mean, but smart.
I'm curious as well to know what happened to Jeyne Poole.
I wonder how Ser Dontos was able to get a note under her pillow.
Sansa must be having fun dealing with all manner of drunk guys in the middle of the night (note the sarcasm).
"I like dogs better than knights." I agree with this sentiment.
"A hound will die for you, but never lie to you. And he'll look you straight in the face." I wonder just how honest he's been. Makes me wonder about comments he's made in the past.
thoughts while reading:Tyrion is up to something...
I'm curious what jar he grabbed from Pycelle's stash.
"As if Joffrey could count past twenty." lol Tyrion thinks so highly of Joffrey (not so much).
Why does Tyrion say that Littlefinger is a traitor?
Tyrion is so sneaky! I don't think he can trust Pycelle or Littlefinger so it will come out from one of them I think.
thoughts while reading:I feel like it's almost a waste of time/resources to be having these festivals/parties while there is a war going on.
Poor Hodor. :( I'm not entirely a fan of people making fun of him.
I always forget how young Bran is - only eight! (almost nine)
I understand why Bran doesn't really want to be a lord or sit in on these talks-they are quite tedious!
"When we speak of the morrow nothing is ever certain."
I wonder why he felt like he was falling when they were talking about the gods hating incest and bringing down the Targaryens.
It seems like he's starting to remember what happened to him when he fell!
Slowly but surely getting caught up! I feel like there is a bit more intrigue and mystery involved in this book than the first.
thoughts while reading:I love how Cersei thinks her dad hasn't seen the letter yet when almost every other lord has. Blissful ignorance methinks?
I wonder how Tyrion definitely found out about Cersei and Jamie.
It's like high school with all this gossiping going on. lol
It's good that Tyrion is growing more weary of Littlefinger. He's a sneaky guy!
"You will make chains, or you will wear them. The choice is yours."
I wonder which King's Hand the tunnel was built for originally.
I think Varys and Tyrion make an awesome pair.
thoughts while reading:Old Nan told a lot of different stories. She's definitely an interesting one! It would be cool to learn more about her history in a short story or something. The things she has probably seen...
It's interesting that all the wildlings are disappearing in the North and it appears a lot of people are disappearing near where Arya is currently.
Arya seriously holds grudges. It's kind of amusing. Even though Joffrey isn't there, she's wishing he was so she could kill him.
thoughts while reading:I wonder how they could have burned their dead in the tree without burning the tree down. (unless they only put the bones in the tree after the fact)
"Much can change in a year's time."
thoughts while reading:Seriously so many people are saying this comet is for them. I'm still really curious the true meaning of it.
"She felt older than her fourteen years. If ever she had truly been a girl, that time was done." ← basically.
I really, really do not like Lynesse.
Hmm, I wonder what these three people really want. I'm also curious why they all spoke in a different language.
thoughts while reading:I find it to be very true to Theon to put the other people on the boat at risk just because he wants to see his home "rise from the sea before him."
"... hard places breed hard men, and hard men rule the world."
I feel like Theon is kind of upset no one remembers/recognizes him (which is fairly understandable). He's been gone for 10 years! A lot can happen and people can look quite different in that time...
"Even the bastard Jon Snow had been acforded more honor than he had." I kind of disagree with this. He was more welcome (I think) when the King went to Winterfell whereas Jon was basically ignored.
Not quite sure I like Theon's dad...
@Brendan: I agree! I feel like it's so accurate and will probably hold some bearing to future events.
This chapter was a long one and definitely on the boring side. I can see this being an important point for those deciding if they want to continue reading or not.
thoughts while reading:I can definitely understand the uneasiness of going against the gods they grew up with.
I am really curious why Davos thinks his fingers are good luck. Maybe because they represent his journey of going from nothing to (almost) everything?
I feel like this was such a set up with the burning sword. I don't think it was the real deal.
Davos helped stop the siege and saved all these lives, but is still hardcore looked down upon.
Why do the Queen's men need seasoned wood?
"This world is twisted beyond hope, when lowborn smugglers must vouch for the honor of kings."
I can see it becoming a problem later the Davos can't read. Stannis already didn't seem to be fan of that fact.
I think Davos had a valid point that Stannis may alienate a lot of people by discounting their gods.
I agree that he probably only has one (if Jon is even his son... I feel like he is almost too honorable to have ONE bastard). I feel like if he did have more, he would step up and claim them also.I feel like the way they've been treating the Night's Watch is going to bite them in the ass later on.
I'm already a few chapters behind, but it'll be pretty easy to get caught up. It's pretty interesting thus far (especially to get more details than we did on the show-i.e. Arya's journey with Yoren).
thoughts while reading:Arya insisting Ned only had ONE bastard kind of amuses me. Why does she think he only stopped at one? (Ned was really honorable so I believe it, just curious that everyone one would believe he had one but not anymore than one. If he was dishonorable enough to have one-why not stop there?)
I wonder why the common people have basically turned against the Night's Watch.
I wonder why the wolves didn't go after Arya. If everything is being burned, they must be as hungry as all the people are.
thoughts while reading:I love how one of Tyrion's focuses is food. lol
I kind of like that Tyrion doesn't think so lowly of whores as everyone else does. He pretty much sees them as women.
I wonder what Tryrion is getting at.... Ah, I see now. lol It's kind of impressive that thus far Tyrion has not forgotten any of his promises (I don't think so at least) to others.
I think Varys saved Gendry? Why the older bastards but not the younger?
"Power resides where men believe it resides. No more and no less."
Why doesn't he want Ser Horas and Ser Hobber to leave?
Tyrion really did not like the fact that these baby bastards were killed. :(
I wouldn't say I dislike Theon, but something seems to be off about him. No one seems to want to trust him!
