I approve of Sam's decision to go with Jon to say his oath in front of the old gods.
A lot of the Stark kids keep pointing out how things 'aren't fair' when they don't get their way.
And now he doesn't want to make a name of himself. lol
177170 That makes sense. lol I bet he's somewhat regretting that decision to be king right about now. Instead of being able to die in peace from an honorable wound (versus old age or poison or something) he has to deal with the politics of passing on his crown.
177170 Ned is definitely sneaky in this chapter with changing the words in the will. He still held to his honor so he probably feels less guilty about doing it.

Since the Starks were called the Kings of Winter (probably way back when) and winter is coming... maybe a Stark will become king! lol
Robert really used to be a warrior. I don't think he was ever suited to be king. As someone said awhile back (don't remember who) Robert belonged out fighting not on a throne.
I wonder why Renly wants Ned to take Joffrey that night and if Cercei is able to prepare it'll be too late for him as well. What does he know/think is going to happen?

I can't imagine having to eat the heart of a horse.
Drogo and Dany are so cute together now.
So Jorah is from Westeros and yet he keeps saying Viserys is not the true king and Dany is with the Dothraki now. He doesn't like Stark and yet he seems to be committed to Robert as king. But still calls Robert the Usurper. It's very conflicting to know who he supports.
Viserys is crazy. He was taken away from his family at a young age so I'm wondering how he came to think so highly of himself. Who encouraged his thoughts & dreams of becoming king to the point of forgoing all logic?
177170 @ Ria: That's pretty funny!

@ Leslie: The white hart is what they (Robert, Renly, Joffrey, Barristan, etc.) were hunting. According to Sansa in the previous chapter they are "supposed to be very rare and magical." I've always imagined them as a type of deer.

It's nice to see Ned realizing the predicament he's in-with all the people surrounding him not being people he can trust. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place with not being able to yell out for help.
I have to say it somewhat makes sense they would end up together. The Targaryens did stay with each other to maintain pure blood. BUT look how that turned out-with mad kings and what not. Maybe that's why Joffrey is so... Joffrey. lol He has a bit of mad king in him as well. (It's still gross though)
I feel like Cersei totally overreacted to being called another woman's name. I get it, it is upsetting, but to go to the lengths she has and to have that much hate for Robert... it seems extreme.
I love how Ned threw it back in her face-"I shall wear that as a badge of honor."

Sansa kind of flints around with who she likes best-first it's Joffrey and now it seems to be Ser Loras.
She is always referring to the stories and songs. Bran does as well, but a different kind and in a different way. Stories seemed to play a role in a lot of the Starks lives/decisions/personalities.
I love how she thinks almost 22 is 'awfully old'. lol
Arya and Sansa could not be more different. I love (somewhat sarcastically) how she somewhat goads Arya and then is shocked when she gets punished as well. Sansa is kind of immature/selfish. (kind of a lot lol)

I'm curious why these 'brigands' would do what they did knowing word would get back to the king-especially since the Mountain is pretty easy to recognize.
177170 True. I guess it's not really Jaime's fault. He was just doing what daddy said. Still not sure seen how I feel about him. lol
177170 thoughts while reading:
"It was your blade I needed, not your love." - Tyrion is always so honest. lol
I find it interesting that Tyrion was able to marry this girl at 13 and set her up in a cottage. That's such a young age in our world, but it's almost adulthood in Westeros.
And his dad had to go ruin it... Not a fan of Tyrion's dad and still not much of a fan of Jaime. They gang up on him! This kind of explains why he doesn't like his dad, but why isn't he a fan of his sister?
177170 @Leslie: It's been so nice seeing Jon grow as a person and he is quickly becoming a favorite.

@Ria: so true!

Ser Alliser is quite fond of nicknames.
I love how Jon has taken Sam under his wing. He treats Sam like a little brother and it's awesome.
"The Wall is no place for the weak." I disagree. I think the Wall needs every man they can get their hands on. Everyone serves a purpose. I agree with Jon-love his comparison to the maester's chain.

Definitely. I'm glad he has stuck to his guns about this series. He knows it's his legacy and he doesn't want to deliver a sad one.
177170 Me either. I just try to remember them and kind of see how/if it happens or bears importance later on.
177170 thoughts while reading:
Lysa is all over the place. Like Catelyn says- she's "inconstant."
I wonder where Robert was really supposed to be sent-Casterly Rock or Dragonstone?
I love how Ser Vardis had to be helped to his feet by his squires. If he can scarcely stand in that armor, how does he fight?

Do we know when the book is supposed to come out?"

I love the show and have been reading most of his updates about the next novel. It doesn't help that he lives about an hour north of me so he's always in the news.
I have no idea when the next should be out. He did have deadlines, but kept missing them so he decided to write without deadlines and let the show pass him. Deadlines apparently give him a writing block. lol I hope this year. That would definitely be ideal.
177170 thoughts while reading:
"He dreamt an old dream, of three knights in white cloaks, and a tower long fallen, and Lyanna in her bed of blood." Dreams seem to have a high level of importance in this book so I wonder what this one means/refers to.
Cersei is kind of ballsy speaking up to the king the way she does (possibly a bit crazy also).
177170 thoughts while reading:
Mord makes me giggle. At least he seems to enjoy his job!
The sky dungeons are kind of ingenious.
I agree that Tyrion was probably used as a scapegoat for any of the crimes they've been accusing him of.
177170 Roseanne wrote: "He drives me crazy! Why would anyone bother to buy the book when it comes out if he gave them the ending? I also don't trust him. He will end up changing his mind and changing the ending. I want to..."

He's even said because of the butterfly effect the books will still be different. I am curious to know how much he deviates from what he told them just to be able to sell books. Keep in mind too that there are characters in the books not in the shows. I think there will be plenty material to warrant reading the book after the show.
