174195 I hope your week is going well and that you’re making solid progress in your reading goals! I thought we could check in on those goals as we move into the second half of the event.

A few questions for you:
What challenges and distractions have you faced this read-a-thon?
What is your favorite book so far?
How's your team and individual challenges going?
What have you accomplished so far in this read-a-thon?
What are your goals for the remainder of the read-a-thon?

Now is also a great time to go in and update your Individual Challenge with your reading progress! I’d you have reached 2,000 points then be sure to enter your info in the Raffle so you have the opportunity to pick a prompt for the 2021 list.

174195 Character development can make or break a book’s success and the extent that you become attached to the storyline and immersed in your reading. Some characters truly resonate with the reader, to the extent that they become well-known within the literary world.

For the sake of fairness and to allow for clear visual images, we’re going to stick to widely known characters for this activity, who have been portrayed in movies or television. Similar to the classic games of “20 Questions” or “Guess Who”, ask the moderator (me) questions, in order to guess the character. Once a character is guessed, I will pick another. To limit the options a bit and make the game a little easier, the source books are listed below.

Rules:
- You cannot use proper nouns in your question. In other words, you can’t simply ask if a character was in a specific book or written by a specific author. You also can’t ask if they were associated with other specific characters.

For instance, for Hermione, you can’t just ask if she was in the Harry Potter novels or if she is friends with Ron Weasley. You can ask if she attended a school for witches and wizards.

- You can ask as many questions as needed but be sure to look at questions asked by others above you

Example:
- Is the character human? No
- Is it in a children’s book? Yes
- Is the character found on a farm? Yes
- Does it have 4 legs? Yes
- Is it Wilbur? Yes

Source Books:
Fight Club
The Devil Wears Prada
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
The Lord of the Rings
It
Charlotte's Web
Mary Poppins
The Hunger Games
Little Women
Jurassic Park

174195 There’s really no way around it. 2020 has been a year full of a whole lot of “NOPE”. So this may just be the perfect book tag to complete as we get closer and closer to saying goodbye to 2020.

1. NOPE ENDING: A book with an ending that made you go “Nope”. Either in denial, rage, or simply because it was crappy.

2. NOPE PROTAGONIST: A book with a main character you disliked or drove you crazy.

3. NOPE SERIES: A series that turned out to be a huge pile of nope, or a series that just wasn’t worth it anymore.

4. NOPE PAIRING: A popular pairing or “ship” or don’t support

5. NOPE PLOT TWIST: A twist you didn’t see coming and didn’t like

6. NOPE GENRE: A genre you will never read

7. NOPE FORMATTING: Book formatting you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition

8. NOPE TROPE: A hated story trope

9. NOPE RECOMMENDATION: A book recommendation that is constantly pushed at you, that you simply refuse to read.

10. NOPE CLICHE: A cliche or writing pet peeve that always makes you roll your eyes.

11. NOPE BOOK: A book that shouldn’t have existed

12. NOPE VILLAIN: A villain you would hate to cross

13. NOPE DEATH: A character death that still haunts you

14. NOPE AUTHOR: An author you had a bad experience reading and have decided to quit
