Off the top of my head I cannot remember how much of the Italy part of the movie was from the book.
Unfortunately, off the top of my head, I cannot think of other books that sound like they would fit.
I guess it depends on what sort of history you are looking for. I know the DaVinci biography has been pretty popular over the past few years.

Sorry to hear about the issue with the book. I remember one time I was at work and wanted to go pick a book up afterward that they had on the shelf. I went ahead and put it on hold and they ended up delivering a copy from a different library even though they had one there! *sigh*

I didn't like it quite as much as I hoped I would, but it was still pretty good!
I have never seen the movie and new next to nothing about this book.So far it is proving to be nothing like I expected. Not that I am quite sure what I was expecting, but it was not this!
My reading has slowed down a bit on this one, not because it is not going well, but because I started March with too many books!I will say that the last third of this book has so far been an entirely different story than the rest.
