At first it started of kind of confusing and was reminding me of
Beloved, which I found to be very confusing with it's dialect and story structure. But, now about 25% in and it makes sense and is very interesting.

This book starts today! I just downloaded my copy!

Discuss our March 2019 selection here

Sorry for getting this message out late - I was in Las Vegas for a long weekend trip and I tend not to do a lot of reading or spending time on the internet when I am there.
Some of you may have seen this already, but our March 2019 selection will be The Color Purple (by 1 vote!). We had a great turnout for the poll and it ended up being a tight race between the winner, The Catcher In the Rye, and A Confederacy of Dunces. I am sure we will see the runners up again in a future poll.
Stay tuned for another Big Read Poll next month as well as our monthly selection poll.
Thanks again for participating! :)

The interesting thing about the story is I am enjoying it, but, I just hit 500 pages and I cannot believe it has taken 500 pages to tell what I have read so far. That isn't a bad thing, it just not feel like 500 pages of stuff has happened!

I want to do some on audio because I like to hear the narrator do the hard-boiled voices!

Definitely some dated ways of looking at things in this book. When reading, you must accept that this was a different time, or you might get uncomfortable!

So far, its exactly what I expected, and I couldn't be happier!

I found a copy on Kindle from my library - might get started before the 1st.

I have seen a lot of mentions of this book being compared to Harry Potter. Around 250 pages in, I am starting to see that. Lots of similarities. Different enough that it is not a bad thing, but definitely cut from the same cloth!

Finished - I am on the fence on this one, but already have some interesting conversation about it on my review:

Closing in on the end of the book - it has definitely improved as the book has gone on. I am feeling a strong foreboding as I near the end!

That is the part I just read!
Great quote and go you for going the extra mile with the translation!
