I am still working my way slowly through this but really enjoying it. So many interesting characters but (view spoiler)
I have finished and thought it was great! Much more unique than I was expecting. In fact, the whole book was not really what I expected at all:My review:

Very interesting so far - not what I expected so far. All the various anecdotes - usually with our protagonist being falsely accused - are very engaging. I find myself talking back to the book - always a good sign!

I think it is the understanding of the story and having seen the movie. Also, I ended up reading a lot of Hemingway and about Hemingway and his relationship with the Fitzgeralds. So, since the first time, I have a lot more points of reference. I can definitely understand you struggling, though - I was there once! :)
