You're further along than I am already! :)
It's fine to count books from other challenges, except for the one-book minis.

Yes, I have - I really liked it!

Hi Christa - Kate Morton is a favorite of mine, too!

Lynette, you're right, there's lots to learn from these types of books. There are many that I've read because they have literary or historical value, but it doesn't mean that I enjoyed the experience or want to repeat it, and I've decided that's ok. Both Vonnegut and Steinbeck are authors like that for me - actually they helped me learn what I don't like to read!
These days I read for pleasure, so I generally steer clear of postmodern or modern works. I find them so depressing - either bizarre and chaotic or full of bleak reality. The world is full enough of these things and I'm looking for something else in my reading.

I managed 4.5 books for the readathon. The last book is a real chunkster (
River God), so I feel good about at least getting through half of it. Plus, It's really good so it feels like it's going fast. I know I haven't finished it yet, but I'd recommend it to historical fiction fans.

Welcome, Rosie!

Deborah, I wouldn't say the first two are uneventful either. I do think they lack the depth of the later books because they are geared more towards kids and because the characters are still younger kids. That's not really a bad thing.
I've also noticed a few things on this re-read that come into play later, and was surprised to see them hinted at so early on. She definitely knew where she was taking it!

Do you have a favorite after re-reading, Deborah?
Renee wrote: "The Vor Game! Great stuff!"It was a lot of fun, Renee!

I haven't seen the illustrated editions, Jenny. I'll have to look for them.
Holly, good luck making progress on this today! I felt the same way about the first two books, and found myself looking forward to Prisoner of Azkaban. That one's still my fav so far.

I didn't have much reading time during the week, but I'm making up for it today. I polished off
The Vor Game, and am onto
River God now. That will probably take me through the rest of the readathon - I hope I can finish it in two days!

What's everyone reading for the Sci Fi genre this month?
I just finished
The Vor Game for starters. I love seeing Miles (the MC) being brilliant and pulling things off out of the worst possible scenarios.

I found Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell to be really slow, Sonia. Really nice writing, but kind of boring.

It's those ones that have been hanging around the longest that feel so satisfying. Congrats on reading Zorro before 10 years had passed!

Or the Hobbit could work, too.

I looked at your shelf, and I think
Cranford might fit the friendship theme. If that doesn't appeal at the moment, there are a couple of listopia lists focused on friendship that could help.

You have to look at the board to see which space you've landed on by rolling 11.
See the board and other rules here.
Since this is your first roll, you landed on "Category: Book Published this Year." Pick a book that fits the category, and off you go!

Wow, Deborah, you're really killing this challenge!

Me too!!
